Are used to work in a building which had three floors. The first two floors belong to us, and the third floor was completely separate company. The lift would only go to the third floor with an access pass, but the ground floor and the second floor were accessible to everyone, including the public as they opened into a reception area for our company. When the lift opened on the third floor, it opened directly into the office of the private company as that company had no reception area. I found that if you repeatedly hit the emergency stop button on your trip between the ground and the first floor, allowing the lift to start and stop and start and stop, it would eventually get confused and would have to reset itself. It did this by travelling to the third floor to do the reset. When it got to the third floor, you could hit the emergency stop button while it was on the third floor and that released the door lock and you could manually slide the door open and walk straight into the office of the private company on the third floor. I used to do this after hours for fun.
I remember one place had the master junction box of and control in the stationary closet. I used to hate it when items would fall off the shelves into my toolbox.
Came here from a YT recommendation and I immediately had flashbacks of the ancient communist-era lifts in my family's home in Zagreb. Sure enough, I started seeing Koncar and error messages in Croatian. Ahhh, nothing like half-working machinery from the balcans :D needless to say, subbed immediately!
My grandparents lived in a typical communist apartment with also some very old lift. The one weird thing I remember about it is that it counted floors from the ground, so ground floor was not 0, but 1. In practice it meant that if you wanted to go to the 3rd floor, you had to press 4.
I once had a dream of the lift in my apartment doing weird stuffs such as overshooting, skipping floors and going in the wrong direction and up and down suddenly. Then this appeared in my recommendation after I shared the experience with my friends. It’s really brave of you would actually showing these faults and thank you! These faults would never be accepted here in Hong Kong.
Dude, I come from a town in Serbia which is 50km next to Novi Sad (2nd biggest city in Serbia). There were a lot of elevators like those shown in the video (I believe they still are) and once I visited my grandma, it got stuck midfloor. I was a kid back then, around 2002-2003. and got so traumatized that I have never entered any elevator for the next 15+ years 😂. My grandma was on the 7th floor and I was always taking the stairs while they were looking at me weirdly...
@@M1cCk0 Well I bet taking the stairs kept you fit and healthy! What a trauma for you at a young age - no wonder you don't go in lifts any more - I will take the stairs with you :)
we are used to them in eastern Europe at least. most of the time out of service in some zones, but they exist on apartment buildings taller than 5 floors
Almost certainly Croatia, judging by the text seen on the doors, the lifts and graffiti. Lack of Cyrillic shows that it's not Serbia and is unlikely to be Bosnia (signs there are in both Latin and Cyrillic formats).
you unlocked my long gone elevator anxiety - i wasn’t able to use elevators until i was 18. also strong eastern bloc vibes of rightfully bygone era - i now realise how strong a factor it was that the elevators were so failure-prone
I think number 5 is pretty cool since it actually manages to correct the issues it made! Call me stupid but I think this gives machines like this a little personality
I don’t know what controller they have, but the elevators in my college dorm here in the U.S. flash between the letter N and the floor they’re located at on the exterior position indicators when they’re out of service. One’s also glitchy when it’s running and flashes the letter Z for a split second about every 5 minutes. They’re modernized 50s Otis’s with new controllers likely from the 90s or 2000s, honestly probably need another mod pretty soon with how they are running.
Thanks to your video I learned that I've been using this 1980s Daka model for years without any knowledge about its strange behavior. That rough starting and stopping and often failing to do anything at all... I found that little thingy always fun and started hopping around, so it didn't reach the right point for detecting the next floor. How lucky was I that I never got stuck?😅Thank you for this extraordinary kind of content. 👍🏻 *This lift is located in a small business complex and I often see confused people checking for the right floor. 😅
Very interesting video! Some of the issues you show remind me of old Soviet elevators I filmed in Armenia, which have the same issues like not registering a call while you are in the cab. And congrats for the 2,000 subs 🎉
An elevator physically can't do that. The weights will hit the floor before the car hits the ceiling + there's plenty of extra space so no, a mechanic can't accidentally turn himself into a meat pretzel by slamming the elevator to the top floor
For # 14, it's lucky that it wasn't stuck. When I was little, my Mother and I got stuck like that at the Lobby level in a 1960s Otis. It was like the Elevator from He🏒🏒 lol. We got in one day and the door 🚪 slammed shut violently and the cab didn't move, even with pushing the buttons. My Mother eventually pried the inner door open and we walked all the way up.
Postoji to još i danas, barem u susjednim zemljama: ua-cam.com/users/shortsqwloELFYtsY
What country is this in? I didn't know elevators were so neglected around the world! I can't imagine why anyone would choose to install an elevator with painted walls instead of stainless steel. Stainless steel may have a higher initial cost, but the cost of keeping it painted over the years of service is much higher. It's also ugly, and after a few years the layers of paint are thick and ugly. I also can't imagine what would lead a person to vandalize the elevator by writing on the walls. The elevator is part of the habitat, it is in the condominium, the person who uses it should take care of it.

love that one. It was like "actually i dont know which floor im on-" 😂
Backrooms floor.
It's honestly shocking on how some of theese lifts are left operating with such issues!
not to mention the state of them
that's why they are put on "out of service" most of the time, for years
Welcome to eastern Europe!
Welcome to the balkans!
some are hard/too expensive to maintain them so that's why they are in such issues!
I won't show this video to my elevators. They should not learn new tricks, how to fail.

I didn't expect to enjoy this as much as I did

In 6:25, kinda the same problem happened with a 1963 Bologna elevator in Greece Kalamata that the lock was too rusty, stuck and it couldnt start
10:06 10:07 - even the elevator doesn't FUCKING know which floor it's going to!
Congrats on 2k
Congratulations for 2k i almost got stuck in my Orona Arca 2
10:04 Hey he's new on the job its his first time going there
I have no idea how I ended up here but I'm somehow fascinated
*3:25** i wonder what would happen if you let ig go in the wrong direction. Would it crash into the top floor?*
No, it should just normally slow down and stop in the last landing.

You want to come and seek out the OTIS lifts in my block of flats? They breakdown more times in the average month than I have hot dinners.
I don't think I've ever been in lifts that are older than the '90s.
