- Rian got a call from Clive in Brisbane, letting him know that he had an XY GT that he was looking to sell that he has had garaged for almost 50 years. He mentioned that the car was going to be a little hard to get out as the yard had overgrown a little and the car hasn’t left the driveway since 1977. In this video, we meet the owner and find out a little more about why this car has been parked away for so long.

Yes so weird and strange that. Just park it up after 5 years and never think to drive it again. Place is shambolic. Guess it fits.

Unbelievable! Imaging being the neighbours all these years (decades?) living near a highly-sought collectors item just a few metres away and not knowing about it.
More unbelievable is having to live with all that rubbish just a few meters away

A Phase III version of same rubbish sold for $1.3 million in Sept 2021.

That’s a real Queenslander. I lived in Brisbane 92 to 96. Saw a lot of houses like that. All that vegetation is common with the climate. Wonderful genuine people. Don’t be quick to judge them.
What a Custodian he's a gentleman and I'd restore it enough to drive it have some fun after no fun for nearly 50 years and sell it
Being in Queensland, I knew it'd be rusty and crusty. What a shame. Ole mate, should've covered it up at the very least or lavished it in rust prevention. Some patina is ok, but that's really bad.

@@tonymontana897In hindsight , that’s fine but back then no one knew how collectable these cars would become. My father had a beautiful XY Fairmont , 351 auto & traded it in 1980 for a 1979 near new XD Falcon , 351 motor , spoiler kit , 12 slot wheels & a really nice car . He got $2000 for the XY . He is still kicking himself but in the day , that’s what it was worth . Crazy .

There are so many cars like this in Brisbane. My sister-in-law lost 3 such cars. A Hilman, HR Special wagon and an EH sedan. Parked for over 30 years. Sadly they were all scrapped after the 2011 floods. I had a 1971 Crown buried in the yard which I scrapped and a 1976 450SEL that was in the garage but all the carpet rotted even though I got all the water out.
That's incredibly sad with the floods. The damage to your home, contents everything.....PLUS damaging these 'priceless' relics. 🫣
Sad about the Crown. They were really good cars in their time.
My idea of pride and joy of owning something like that would be to keep everything working taking it for a spin now and then cleaning polishing putting a cover on it at least. Can’t understand how you can just leave it to decay. It will cost a shit load to strip and restore this beast to its former glory.

WOW... those were wonderful - the drive-in movie with ice cream!... and some people had a bit of educational adventures in their Falcon back seats! It's better than any television.
May the GT live to be enjoyed by many for another fifty years?
I hope it gets restored (or just cleaned up) and goes to a museum or someone willing to enjoy it again.

I bought 3 cars from grays and all 3 of them ended up having huge problems that I didn’t know about. 2 went to the wreckers . I will never ever buy a car from the scammers again.
I hope grays does not charge him a buyers premium as they do to most customers. Some auction rooms ask 20 percent . The sale should be for no sellers premium with all the publicity they are receiving I think that’s fair. We should keep an eye on this sale and make sure they’re not ripping him off.
Wouldn’t have killed you to clean up the guys block and take the rubble away while you had the bobcat there would it? It’s not all about scabbing the last dollar from the guy.

The guy hasn't lived in the house for years. Google channel nine news House brought for $25,000 in 1977 from grandmother. It sold in September 2023 for $1,300,000
@@MegaPixie666 whether he’s lived there or not is completely irrelevant. They turned up with a bobcat, cleared a path, dragged the car out, and then left the mess behind. Proper form would’ve been to remove the rubbish when they had the bobcat there to do it. Like I said, it’s not all about scabbing the last dollar from the guy.

I have a 1951 Austin A40 Devon Sedan that I drove under my house in April 1971. I was going to restore it when i retired by repainting, ulpholstery and mags but when i retired in 2006 the ecomony made it impossible for me to restore it and the car has been under the house since.

Yup, stripe delete! Pretty rare! Check those wheels too!
The owner removed the stripes in 1975. Driving lights are in the boot and the original sports road wheels are with the car, we had to put those wheels on to get it out.

I just don't understand why people park up cars, it happens all around the world.
It's in very poor shape, if people are going to park up a car for 20+ years put a decent cover over it and jack it up so the wheels are off the ground.

Okay, they weren't exactly rust free as I have one but they're now very rare and collectors cars in ANY condition, it's NOT JUST another rust bucket Ford, THIS one IS special, one of a kind due to its history. I'm hoping it'll go to a repairer who'll RESTORE it and not change it, THEN to a Ford Museum for display. Here's hoping!
I have had a couple in the past as well as other fords (TD 4.1 L cortina, Escort, Capri V6) I was involved in PD of these things, (Fords of all variants) I am not sure if I personally can see any worth in them actually, just my opinion. @@david.m.304
