- In this series of videos me and my twin brother convert an ex-amazon delivery van which we bought for £2000 from facebook marketplace and we have 10 days to convert this into a campervan that we can live and travel in, around Germany for 6 weeks as we follow England around at the Euros.

Is it sad that even I'm wetting myself laughing at me and Ed trying to make the wooden template for the fan 😂😂. Also thanks to everyone who mentioned we’ve put the roof vent on the wrong way round 🥴. Everydays a school day but we’ll get it sorted 🙏🏻

Omg guys, I’m literally building a van up myself, a ford transit mk6 I got for £2k…. I’m so happy about this video as everything I have done so far has been as good as your fan frame!! I see other UA-cam videos and the perfect vans, and look at mine and laugh every time

Your van your way BUT you fitted the roof fan around the wrong way, it should rise from the back so if it’s slightly open when travelling the wind doesn’t rip it off 😂

JUST A WARNING - we used this so called mechanic and all I will say is we would never use him ever again and the cost was treble of other garages . And he did other jobs that were not needed just to hike up the cost . He was not a nice person to deal with and we felt he had fully taken advantage of an older couple . Please please will look at other mechanics as we would be deeply upset if this happened to you . Obviously we don’t have the backing of a UA-cam channel to voice our problems so hopefully you have a different out come .

the best way to get the measurements for the roof farm frame was to take the width of the wood, double it, then measure the width of the fan's inner bracket, then add it all together, thats gets you 2 sides with no errors.
the other 2 sides would be the final length of the first 2, but remove the doubled number.
as for avoiding splits, drilling 'pilot holes' in before putting the screw in almost completely removes the risk of splitting. a pilot hole is a drilled out channel a little smaller that the screw's width, so the central screw's shaft can slide in when drilling, but the spiral teeth still grip into the wood.

45 degree on the edges just like a picture frame
Always put the hinge side of the roof vent facing the front of the van , wind drag will rip it open and maybe off all together the way you have it! 🤘

Will wet your finger and run it down the sekaflex it will look clean and smooth. And a damp cloth to finish hahaha
Oh no you fitted the fan back to front. It should open to the rear of the van so when your driving it can't get ripped off

The top of the vent is facing the wrong way. If you forget it to close and start to drive, the wind will blow it away.

I think ya fan lid probably should be opening to the back too so you can leave it open while driving? Good Luck!! 👏

Abit of water on the finger or a small paintbrush, can be used to smouth out the putty. Not saying it is easy, but easier.
This series is great, someone like ebay should sponsor you two to do a build off, with a van each, an impossibly small budget and a journey at the end 😁

Best tip I ever learned for making silicone or something similar look good is rubbing alcohol. On a gloved finger or a cloth. The alcohol smoots it out perfectly

Not sure why you are going to these length’s. Your only gonna be in it 6 weeks in summer time so will be reasonably warm. Just chuck a mattress in and your all good 👍👍

to prevent wood from shaping from thick screws (fan frame), use a drill bit just 2mm thinner than the screws and drill out the hole for the screw to fit in. it will hold because of the screw head.

Wipe the edges of the Sikaflex with a panel wipe while its still wet, gives it a nice clean finish. Did this for years while building windows for boats.
Bring on the laughs and i wonder if they completed the van build, as tomorrow the Euros start.

Hi Silicon sealant is waterproof just wet your hands and you can dab it to make tidy edges

To get a smooth tidy finish with silicone sealant, get a small bowl of warn water with a little washing up liquid in it. Wet your finger and smooth off. This method will also stop the silicone from sticking on your finger. As your finger returns to the bowl the access silicone will drop off into the warm water re wet your finger again and keep smoothing off.
A warm wet finger is all you need 🤣
or put the water and washing up liquid in a spray bottle! silicone everything then spray it up. wipe away and let the rest evaporate
For simple-ish runs, a profile tool is also great too. I thought they were a gimmick until I did my bath/boxing in/windows etc etc. When you get a nice 100% consistent thickness, taking it off when it goes manky is a breeze - no scraping!

At first, I was like this is a disaster. Then it dawned on me that they're going to Euros. Yeah, probably best to take a shiddy van. I'd imagine taking his nice van and risking hooligans and thieves getting at it, wouldn't be a good idea. That 2K will be cheaper than 6 weeks of lodging around Germany.

I think you wired the fan up wrong hence why it didn't work. Generally Black is positive +12V and White is negative ground on RV fans so I would double check the documentation that came with it. Also it should open up to the rear and not the front as it will tear off when driving if even a little bit ajar. Aprt from that it was a very entertaining day.
