This is the kind of video I've been searching for. I like this kind of detail on processes I'm not 100% on. Thanks for the long format and details regarding what the end goal is.
Beautiful port job. Only thing I’d say for the new guys trying this is tape off the valve seats or coat them in candle wax. Sounds weird but will buy you some condom level protection if you bump the valve seat with the side of the shaft spinning inside there. Obviously not needed for guys like “D77” who’s done 100 of these things. Helpful for a first timer. Especially when that carbide grabs and yanks the tool from your hand. 😊
Whenever I'm working on the short side I like to use a long strip of emery cloth and feed it through the port like floss and use it to roll the short side
Good explanation on the valve lapping too. Telling people to pick up and spin so it sets more lapping compound down in your lapping and showing people that grey dull surface is perfect 👍🏻. What do you think of the guys that put some tape and drill on the backside? I always felt that puts only one direction of lap and force on the valve causing it to “tip” ever so slightly. 🤷🏻♂️. Lapping by hand to me ensures the entire surface receives contact with the seat like during operation.
I think imma do this to my stock head! I have a mod 2 cam, billet flywheel/rod, filter, exhaust & its slow at take off, i get beat by a 212 with just filter, exhaust & amazon flywheel -.- like the from start to mid range he walks me, its until from 3/4 to full when i start to catch up, i just have more top end & my gearing is .16 higher, so it should have a tiny bit more pull. So changing carbs to a vm22 26mm & hope porting job helps with a good strong low end power as well. It lacks.
I love your videos! Have you tried using a head mount for a go pro? Might work really great for this video in particular and or a Odelfi headlamp? Just my two cents.
Yeah I can imagine, just thought a go pro and headband mount, would help people see what and how you are grinding the head. Keep going You are getting better and better at these videos! Down to Earth and easy to follow in your skills! 👍
My brother has a built tilly 196 and it's a badass motor. I have a clone 196 the one from coleman all built up and I love that motor! Plenty of power. Just finished a predator 224 build and it definitely has more low end power but all around not a crazy difference overall as of yet but I have only rode it a few times so far.
Wish I had the time....working 70hrvweeks plus the unlogged hrs.... I wanna work on fuckin bike...I wanna ride.. shit I rather die riding than making sumbody else rich
I just ordered a set of carbide bit. Think I'm gonna take my stock Tilly 212 head and attempt a very light, in order to learn n gain confidence, port on polish. My goal is to take of edges like you show and shine the exhaust up to a mirror. I hear leavening intake side unpolished is better. Thanks for the info my man!

I really like the longer videos. I like em all. I think you’re the only person who has shown big valve head!

How about around the step around the valve seat? Have you blended that out?

Ifin you get all you're shit ready beforehand, you'd wouldn't spend so much time while you should be porting 😮

Just a Dremel tool from home depot
