I hate that any personal story that individualized your character ended at Level 30ish or so, and then you were just 'the commander', now on a bench with other characters you consider your inner circle of friends, and you own a pet dragon. And some personal dialogue you have with other characters is written in such a way that it doesn't differentiate you from any other race, regardless of having more depth or insight with a character (sylvari for Caithe, asura for Zojja, charr for Rytlock, etc). Having more options to agree or disagree with NPCs and their dialogue would take more work, but I would have liked it more.

One thing that's really missing and important for the lore is the role of magic being not only some "art" etc but actual substance. Dragons eat magic and accumulate it. Bloodstone accumulates magic and that starts guild wars. Now we have a lot of free magic around after the dragons have been killed and the demons from other realms come to eat that magic.
New to me
I never played GW1, I started with GW2 back in 2012. About a year ago, I bought GW1 since I love GW2 so much and have been playing through it bit by bit. I gotta say how awesome it is to meet people that are legend in GW2. How awesome it is that GW2 is an honest to god sequel and how many eureka moments I've had playing through GW1 after having spent so much time in 2.
Especially if you play Revenant in GW2 since some of the legends are huge names, if not flatout important to the story, in GW1.

I feel like every lore video needs to be in this format of five-ish minutes, random things happening, and topped with solid editing. No one needs the three-hour tour.
As a massive lore buff, I think there is a shorter way to explain the lore:

Braham is a Norn, the Norn would stiñl be living far up north if Jormag didn't wake up, which wouldn't have happened if humans and their gods didn't make the "wake up the elder dragons many centuries before they should challenge"

Saying that GuildWars as a title is just a story reference doesnt change the fact that GvG is awesome even as a concept for PVP and there's no reason it cant exist as something inbetween the smaller 5v5 sPVP and the massive WvW modes they already have in GW2.

The question I want to know is why are the dragons angry? They seem to be fundamental forces of nature more so than actual beings with motivations. And sure if you fuck with them they’ll fuck you back but I see no reason why they’re all angry to begin with. They should be chilling even if they’re active. The dragons are required to keep nature in balance, as when they die it creates a chain reaction of events arguably worse than the dragon being alive itself.

As someone who, for some mysterious force, skips the story as much as she can, I really appreciate this lore explanation, it's extremely annoying doing stuff in the game without knowing why, I simply assumed we were saving the world, now everything makes proper sense. Thanks Muk and Noxxie!

as a gw1 player coming to gw2, its still hard to not see the char as "the enemy" . no one talks about the long purple strike from isle of istan area all the way up to blazing ridge. was that Kralkatorrik or some unknown dragon much bigger?
That is actually in one of the gw2 novels, that is from when kralk first woke up and took flight, he left that trail behind him branding all the creators (and people) underneath. My son calls it the brand canyon.

Honestly GW1 story is so much better than GW2 but mostly because GW2 was so focused on dragons that it became really boring.
Even though I really liked Cantha and Factions in GW1, End of Dragons was really boring and uninspiring, but with the new expansion I hope we'll get something more interesting!

We do know that under the manipulation of the shamans, the charr committed horrific acts and lived in that land for about a generation after their conquest before humans settled. That hardly makes the Charr victims

I used to love the lore pre-GW2 and the idea of fighting the elder dragons which were hinted at, at the end of GW1 was a great setup I was excited for. But holy shit I could just never get over the insane tonal shift from dark, mysterious and serious to upbeat, whimsical and cartoonish. Also, I know that you earn the title of commander, but having people constantly refer to you as commander makes me want to stick pencils into my ears, it's just that kind of painful cringe, especially with the Ubisoft tier voice acting.
BUT, I recently came back and played SOTO and I do appreciate that some old theories and questions from GW1 are brought back and while I haven't finished SOTO yet, it's pretty enjoyable so far. I just have to play with dialogue turned off and sadly can't seem to escape the word "commander" every single sentence.
That being said, I love everything else about GW2 and it's great to return to it once in awhile and get lost for a few months. If someone somehow read this stupid comment, thanks for reading my dumb schizopost. BYE.

Hmm. We have had a chapter where we die and go to the afterlife, and we have had chapters where we play as others (caithe and braham come to mind). But they weren't directly related.
