what is kata name, tell me please.
Kalaripayattu.

Oh oh Jin.
Huhm .... analyzing other 5 Tekken characters who use Karate ( Heihachi, Kazuya, Jin, Kazumi and Bob. I am sure you will have some your favorite fictional character you want to talk about.
Fun fact, Tatsuya Naka did the motion capture for her!
that's right!!!
watch?v=uPSqCWPi4Ko
Truly yes
this
Yes. Kuro Obi channel brings me here
so, did anyone complained yet that they used a male performer for the motion capture? Because that's what I expect
Cool someone who is official giving Tekken its due credit for being on the realistic side of arcade over the top video games. Always was impressed in how they try to incorporate so many styles.
I call it as I see it! 💪
mortal kombat did the same. i just want to know how did the y do yoshimitsu cuz his moves are really insane in every game he appeared
Virtua Fighter does it best.
Still take issue with the load of juggling combos the game is known for.
Virtua Fighter says hi!
Came here as a normal viewer
Came out as a Karate Nerd
Amazing!! 😄
Recently joined the club😅😅. Infact it was my dream to learn karate but when my left arm broken and done 3 surgeries in it. It showed me otherwise.
@@Nawaf6820 You still have 3 limbs, use them, don't limit yourself cause you only have one life.
Changed you location yet? To Okinawa (the birthplace of carate) of course
That little girls kata was so good, gave me chills
She’s sensational!
She had the same speed as Lidia
@@michaelwaynetucker But Lydia Had Iron Fist...(Tekken)
Yep. Passionately good
I think she is that little girl from the Sia - Alive music video.
I'm legit scared of the 7 years old, those movements were too precise and fast for her age
she did not use Karate screams, those were actual war cries, or some wild beast roars.
Oh thank you, me too!!! 😭😭
When I was seven I was barely learning how to ride a bike yoooo
You should be more afraid of the fact she's not seven anymore HAHAHAHA XD she'll be 15 this year! Also, she was in one of Sia's music videos.. and spoiler alert: She's still super good! I can't wait until she can officially compete against adults!
@@jesscaballero8808
let's see her vs Ronda Rousey.
Tatsuya Naka Sensei is doing the motion capture!! that's why it looks so authentic.
When I first saw Lida's trailer my first gut reaction was I hope Jesse makes a video out of this
Haha awesome!
Remember Tekken 3 with Hwowrang doing his poomse for ITF? I like how Tekken actually has legit martial arts moves.
He was my best character! 🤪
The motion-capture by Hwoarang was done by an ITF practitioner named Hwang Su-il, who is now a seventh dan (IIRC). BTW, ITF patterns are called tul, not poomse.
@@stormcrow1970 Thank you. I wonder why they have a different name for it.
@@Samperor I've always wondered why the WT has a difference name for tul :-D Originally, the term "hyung" was used which is basically a translation of kata (and at that point many Kwans were still practicing older Japanese forms). Between 1965 and 1972 Gen. Choi decided to use the term tul (틀) to describe the pattern set he had developed. While tul can be translated as "form" it's perhaps more accurate to translate it as "pattern" which Gen. Choi thought was a more accurate description of what was actually being done when one performs a tul. As far as I am aware tul has no hanja, only hangul, denoting it's a native Korean term not a borrowed Chinese or Japanese term.
I feel like that level of attention to detail is partially why Tekken feels so visceral in terms of it's actually gameplay. Visually speaking, every hit feels real. (Even if kazuya has to break his spine to do his hellsweep)
I'm glad I'm not the only person who was learning moves from Tekken.
hehe..same here. Mishima Karate is my favourite.
Dude, totally. We Giant Swung and Muscle Busted each other all the time as kids.
Finally. After years of playing Tekken, the "real" Shotokan Karate is practiced at Tekken. Mishima Kazuya was the first one but his moves still kinda mixed with fictional fighting styles
Isn't that the basis of the game? Using real martial arts a base and then make some cool stuff around it
The amount of discipline Lidia Sobieska has as a character is astonishing!
there's also the fact she's prime minister of Poland, that must take some discipline
@@BronzeAgePepper
Wait .. WUT??
@@remliqa that's not a joke. That's actually part of the lore of her character. She now joins the ranks of politicians like Haggard (who is canonically the mayor of metro city) who uses their fists to solve their constituents problems.
Don’t for get the ninja chip zanuff from guilty gear is the president of the USA
And Terminator from Mortal Kombat is the governor of California
Tekken usually implements different fighting styles in really great ways, my favorite character is Steve
For sure!
Yes, can t wait for Tekken 8!!! It s a pity that the character "representing" my country, Claudio Serafino, uses an unitentified and strange style...
Absolutely an Amazing example of this. From Staves counting to his stance changes. It's literally every boxing technique in one character and it's beautifully done!
@@taco_sensei Dude legitimately has the power of anime and god with him. Not sure what fighting style would have been fitting for an Italian... Then again, poland is doing karate, so whatever would have worked.
omg, she's from Poland, I'm so hyped about this
it took a Polish girl to finally fight real traditional japanese karate in Tekken
Haha Jesse! I’ve recreated her movements in real life! Come check it out!
Haha! Cringe alert? 😬
Haha I hope not
One of the Tekken developers Katsuhiro Harada has done martial arts. I think he has a black belt in Karate and Judo.
As a karate practicioner, I am excited. I mostly play karate style fighters and can't wait to use this new character.
Сame to take a look at waifu.
- received a history education...
My bad! 🤪
but Jesse is a husbandu
@@KenMikaze Broo he is talking about that 29 year old polish president whose request was rejected by Heihachi Mishima(while he was head of Mishima Zaibatsu).I think now you understand.
As much as she is a waifu, she doesn't have a major part in the story
That character is a fine woman 😂
This was awesome to watch, just goes to show the developers took the time to articulate each fighting system for their characters.
It definitely seems so
Lidia is very much like Tekken 3 Hwoarang. Back in T3, they built a completely new moveset to distinguish the ITF style of Taekwon-Do from Baek.
Similarly Lidia's Karate is night and day compared to the Mishimas.
For a video game with death robots, literal devils and giant fighting bears it's INSANELY realistic lmfao
Tekken is known for using actual Martial Arts, that's why I love it.
Loved it! Outstanding synthesis of karate, history, and popular culture. 💯
Thanks a lot!
What if... Usami Rika sensei was behind the mo-cap of Lidia? xD
Hmm.... I bet they used a Shotokan practitioner. But who knows!
@Mikio Serafino owh ya, how could i forget about that.. the famous Shotokan instructor from JKA.
@@KARATEbyJesse I saw a video of Naka Sensei doing the mocap!
@@KARATEbyJesse yea they actually use real martial artists that do the moves of certain characters that do each moves
As stated the motion capture was done by Naka Sensei from JKA
I have also seen the video
Just so you know, the man behind Lidia Sobieska's movements is Naka Tatsuya, he has a UA-cam channel called "kuro-obi world" and he's posted the behind the scenes clips of tracing his movements for Lidia.
Jesse sensei fun fact about her fighting style is the same as Kazuya mishima. Both is shotokan practitioner. But fact about her is she is *Polish* Karate style. So she may a bit different than Kazuya does.
Another fact:
Kazuya mishima is the first main character in the Tekken series.
Jesse Enkamp doing Tekken. This must be my lucky day.
That little girl's war cry is scarier than Devil Jin ever was
I didn’t know that I wanted a history lesson to highlight the work that went into a video game. Thanks for such a cool video Jesse! Keep up the great content
Thank you so much!
Tatsuya Naka did the motion capture for her skill set.
Tekken has always been my most favorite video gave ever since i started playing videogames as a kid ... The game had "actually" inspired me to learn martial arts and today am so much devoted into karate , the shotokan karate ... Such a relief to see my favorite videogame franchise has introduced an exactly accurate character from the martial art i practice ... That also in the best way possible ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
You can see other moves from Lidia online where she uses other Shotokan moves from Katas Jion, Bassai Dai and Gojushiho Dai.
I approve of Lidia's Shotokan Karate
i did shotokan karate for 5 years back in the mid 2000s, but i never continued because i wanted to focus more on school ... this character brought back so many good memories.
I remeber back then Baek and huwarang performing the koryo poomsae as tekken intro. Love to see characters who are based on actual martial arts
Mr. Tatsuya Naka is the motioncapture performer of Lidia Sobieska , Jesse-sensei!!
I'm a shotokan white belt and this had me so happy knowing namco actually did their homework and implemented some real life stuff in the game. It's amazing! She's gotta be my favorite right next to Paul.
"I actually learned a lot of stuff that I would actually use in the dojo. Trust me, it works!" - got it! I'm gonna start korean backdashing and spamming electric wind godfists in kumite. Thank you jesse.
Don't forget to hell sweep
Korean back dashing irl is no joke XD
Excerlent!!! - Lee
Came for Tekken and Lidia, stayed for the karate history lesson! Tekken is a big reason why I got into martial arts! Been a kickboxer for 6 years now!
I was about to say. "Someone notify Sensei Jesse about this" xD
me, a practitioner muay thai: well i'll guess i'm a karate nerd now
Love The Videos
Shoutout from Indonesia fan
I have to say I'm petty impressed with Tekken showing off a real martial arts. That's so cool
FYI, Her Motion Capture is Tatsuya Naka, he has a UA-cam channel (Kuro-obi world). He also an Okinawa Gojuryu practitioner
I would love to see you take us through her entire move list and explain the origins of some moves as well as what she might say during said moves. Like "Osu!" This is the first time I discovered your channel and I already want to learn more about Karate. Who knows, maybe you could even show us some matches with her!
Id watch that 🎥
Jesse will Explain Her Cat Stance in her Karate movesets as She use it A lot as her main weapon (Neko Karateka) she a cat person
Even now as an adult, I still credit playing Hworang as a kid for my extensive kicking ability with his Taekwondo style. Tekken is definitely something special when it came to realism. Why it's still my all time favorite fighting game.
Jesse, they actualy called Sensei Tatsuya Naka to perform the kata and the bunkai for the moviment capture, Sensei Naka is one of the most recognised masters of JKA (now qualified as the general manager of PR division) and bronze medalist no the Shoto Cup, JKA’s world championship
Naka Tatsuya Sensei of JKA is the person behind Lidia's movements
The motion capture for her was done by Kuro Obi's Naka Tatsuya-sensei.
First thing I thought of watching the trailer was how you would react! So glad I found your channel. Thank you for the education!
One of the best youtube recommendations by far yet, what a great video.
Thank you! 🙏
0:38 "Huh? Why you choose the little girl for this her movements still toO OOH-"
What I really loved about the Tekken franchise was the relatively realistic depiction of many styles (karate and otherwise), as well as the amount of high-level concepts of martial arts these games managed to capture just through their mechanics.
As just one example, whiff punishing in this game, where you suddenly back away from an attack to make your opponent miss before hitting them with your own attack in their recovery time, is really similar in nature to what you said about spacing in karate in one of your earlier videos. Glad to see these games getting some attention here!
On a lighter note, Mr. Enkamp, I could totally see you playing Lars if you played Tekken (Lars is also Swedish, and he uses a form of kempo).
I am really happy because yesterday was my belt test and I directly got promoted from white belt to orange belt🤩
Hey Jesse, Tatsuya Naka just posted a vid of him doing the motion capture for this character
Lidia vs Jin
Okinawa vs Kyoukushin
Do you need anymore?
I am a big tekken fan and was so happy to see you break down this character on my favorite Karate channel. Thank you!
Tekken is awesome, been a fan since Tekken 2, around the same time I started my Martial Arts journey. Great info presented here as usual, all the best.

OH MY GOD! I was already excited about the character trailer this morning ... and Boom! The great Jesse Enkamp posted a video about it! My day can't be better!
Don’t care what anybody says...your charisma breathes life into Karate and martial arts in general and helps build the martial arts community as a whole! Keep it up!! 😄
Theory: Lidia was the one who taught Jin Traditional Karate
@@revbladez5773 people can travel?
That would be a fun way to connect the two characters narratively but I think the setting feel namco was going for is really more like Grappler Baki where it's a world of badasses in every crevice.
Hahahaha i just play Tekken 7. And this video come's out
Great video! Wish there was a channel like this for every martial art i.e. Muay Thai expert reacts to Fahk, boxer reacts to Steve etc.
Jesse ! 🙏🏾 thank you for your videos ! The new Lydia Trailer for Tekken 8 dropped! I'm tuned in if you ever decided to do a part 2 👀.
The character's creating those loud ass sounds even without gi, imagine her wearing a gi 😂 i'd be deaf
Do you smell what The Rock is cooking?
Fun fact, the practitioner who created Lidia's karate movement is Dai Sensei Tatsuya Naka.
Probably my favorite video you've had. I was saying 'NO THAT LOOKS LIKE KUSHAN KU DAI VARIANT' Then you dropped a knowledge history bomb on me. Thanks for all the great content!
no way she could take on Bryan Fury, not possible.
Remember Bryan is just forced to be an actor who are beaten by Lidia in trailer. Later Bryan will beat her face in later *Tekken Delete* scene
Lili and Asuka beat up Kazuya and Bryan in the Tag 2 trailer.
Lidia’s KARATE is more karate than Jin’s carate.
Thanks for making this video! I really appreciate the history dive and kata breakdowns!! Most commentators would just say stuff like “Yeah, that’s good” or “Not even close.”
awesome video! I loved your attention to detail and thoroughness diving into the history behind karate and it's styles. you used your time more efficiently than most documentaries I've seen and ended up being more well researched than most as well. keep up the good work, you're awesome!
Anybody else scared of the 7 year old?
@@Darwinwasright167 I wouldn't go that far.
The Hikite is indeed used in bunkai to pull your opponent, but it is usefull even without as it allows to avoid to get your Hara too much to the front when doing Oi Zuki or Kizami Zuki. In terms of physic, you generate a vector in the opposite direction of your punch which help your torso to stay in place :)
I'm so happy that u mentioned you moves from tekken in the dojo. The tekken guys really kept tekken real as possible
I like the older, Okinawan version of that kata from what I’m seeing here. Cool video! I used to like playing tekken when I was a young man.
This video is dense with information. Thanks. As a Tekken fan and a past karate student, I enjoy this video.
best fighting game series ever, played since Tekken 1!
Nice video, Jesse. *Loved* the Okinawa history lesson.
Wonderful! 🙏
When i saw your comment in The Lidia's trailer i knew you gonna do this, let me tell you a little history of miself,i play Tekken since Tekken 3, The first motivation in my life to start doing Karate is Jin Kazama, even i tattoed his Devil Marc on my left arm, his thoughest, his strenght and his determination turn me into a fan of The character, i start doing Shito Ryu for long time but when i reach yellow belt my sensei needs to travel and leave The dojo and the country so i start doing MMA until today, but i cannot see The day i start to practice Kyokushin to tribute Jin and reach UFC, i think all of those thing makes me another Karate Nerd and yes! A video of Jin's Karate Will be awesome, best wishes bro!!
I only discovered Jesse when i saw his video on his sparring session with muay thai champion. Now i find out he's interested in tekken? My childhood fighting game? Awesome!!
Jesse reacting to this trailer on the same day is the dream! As I watched it, I felt like I saw a lot of karate and just thought "How would Jesse Enkamp react to this. Oh well, maybe someday, if someone asks him about it. Can't imagine this being on his radar." Imagine my surprise seing this video only hours after having seen the trailer myself (I'm a big game nerd).
I can only speak for MMA and BJJ techniques being very well represented so I was really hoping the karate was given similar attention to detail. Thanks for confirming. I love your content.
I’m glad Jesse Enkamp knows Tekken, very interesting. You even brought up my favourite scene in Tekken. Jin’s Kata in Tekken 4
So cool you did this video Jesse. I recommeded it to you yesterday. Great fan of tekken and your channel. Thanks for the great content.
Tatsuya Naka Sensei's movements as Lidia Sobieska were excellent.
I’m not even that into Karate, but you made this way more interesting. Really cool seeing the Tekken katta along side the real life thing. Great video 👍
was really hoping for a karateka to look into this, cheers!
I just started watching your stuff a few weeks ago but ive played Tekken my whole life!
When I saw her moves I wondered if she did Okinawan style karate since I saw your vid about it a few days ago and how it different from modern day traditonal character. Funny to see you reacting to it. Lol
Take care!
Wow, thank you for this Video!! Im actually searching for my old karate-love by playing tekken…. I was a bit confused if its the right for me, but seeing your video make me believe in myself again, i dont know why… thank you, it motivates me to look for a new dojo. Thank you.
From a tekken player perspective this reaction was really important gave me the motivation to learn about the history of the fighting style. Keep it up!
If I remember correctly, the "actor" they used for Jin Kazama in Tekken 4 and 5 was Kancho Shokei Matsui of Kyokushin, said successor as leader appointed by Master Oyama.
My mind legit exploded when you explained what the practical implication of hikite was!
Vine por una guía de combos de Lidia y termine aquí .... No me arrepiento , está muy bueno el video . Felicidades
Dude, the Man, the Myth, the Legend Naka Tatsuya from Kuro-Obi World recorded the motion for this character.
Not only is she doing traditional karate but she is also prime minister of Poland in the Tekken world.
Holy Fkuc 7 year olds intensity is INSANE...
I love your vids Jesse 👍👍
While I am not into video games I got to admit seeing Kankudai in there was pretty awesome!
Wow Jesse. You made such a detailed video available so quickly. Thank you
As a nerd and martial arts admirer. Tekken surprises me with each version.
I practiced karate for a very short time but I really enjoyed it. This video actually made me remember pinan sandan 😅
I'm no expert at all but I'm really happy that I was able to identify the shotokan style based on her stance.
I didn't look up the back history of the Ku Shan Ku Kata in my School of Nihon Koden Shindo Ryu. I did always wonder though never it occurred to me to ask our Sensei the others I trained under why the name was oddly Chinese sounding. But then I realized that since my school was in fact founded in Okinawa by the late Shihan Hiroyuki Hamada, and it is a mix of Shotokan, this now this video gives me more of an understanding of it.
