Cool someone who is official giving Tekken its due credit for being on the realistic side of arcade over the top video games. Always was impressed in how they try to incorporate so many styles.

The motion-capture by Hwoarang was done by an ITF practitioner named Hwang Su-il, who is now a seventh dan (IIRC). BTW, ITF patterns are called tul, not poomse.

Between 1965 and 1972 Gen. Choi decided to use the term tul (틀) to describe the pattern set he had developed. While tul can be translated as "form" it's perhaps more accurate to translate it as "pattern" which Gen. Choi thought was a more accurate description of what was actually being done when one performs a tul. As far as I am aware tul has no hanja, only hangul, denoting it's a native Korean term not a borrowed Chinese or Japanese term.
I feel like that level of attention to detail is partially why Tekken feels so visceral in terms of it's actually gameplay. Visually speaking, every hit feels real. (Even if kazuya has to break his spine to do his hellsweep)

Finally. After years of playing Tekken, the "real" Shotokan Karate is practiced at Tekken. Mishima Kazuya was the first one but his moves still kinda mixed with fictional fighting styles
Lidia is very much like Tekken 3 Hwoarang. Back in T3, they built a completely new moveset to distinguish the ITF style of Taekwon-Do from Baek. Similarly Lidia's Karate is night and day compared to the Mishimas.
Absolutely an Amazing example of this. From Staves counting to his stance changes. It's literally every boxing technique in one character and it's beautifully done!

Jesse sensei fun fact about her fighting style is the same as Kazuya mishima. Both is shotokan practitioner. But fact about her is she is *Polish* Karate style. So she may a bit different than Kazuya does. Another fact: Kazuya mishima is the first main character in the Tekken series.

The game had "actually" inspired me to learn martial arts and today am so much devoted into karate , the shotokan karate ... i did shotokan karate for 5 years back in the mid 2000s, but i never continued because i wanted to focus more on school ... this character brought back so many good memories.
I would love to see you take us through her entire move list and explain the origins of some moves as well as what she might say during said moves. Like "Osu!" This is the first time I discovered your channel and I already want to learn more about Karate. Who knows, maybe you could even show us some matches with her!

Jesse, they actualy called Sensei Tatsuya Naka to perform the kata and the bunkai for the moviment capture, Sensei Naka is one of the most recognised masters of JKA (now qualified as the general manager of PR division) and bronze medalist no the Shoto Cup, JKA’s world championship
That would be a fun way to connect the two characters narratively but I think the setting feel namco was going for is really more like Grappler Baki where it's a world of badasses in every crevice.

What I really loved about the Tekken franchise was the relatively realistic depiction of many styles (karate and otherwise), as well as the amount of high-level concepts of martial arts these games managed to capture just through their mechanics. As just one example, whiff punishing in this game, where you suddenly back away from an attack to make your opponent miss before hitting them with your own attack in their recovery time, is really similar in nature to what you said about spacing in karate in one of your earlier videos. Glad to see these games getting some attention here! On a lighter note, Mr. Enkamp, I could totally see you playing Lars if you played Tekken (Lars is also Swedish, and he uses a form of kempo).

Great video. At first i said: another stupid character like Josie or Lucky Chloe but then i played with her and i am enjoying the game like i did back in tekken 5. Amazing move set, voice, stances.
While I am not into video games I got to admit seeing Kankudai in there was pretty awesome!
