    I never understood why someone in the modern age would cry over someone who lost their lives hundreds of years ago and never knew them. People are strange I tell ya.

    My dogs and I looked for lost treasures on our walks. We found lost silver and gold jewelry and many stones. Now I have a large collection, but those dogs died. My new dog is now good on the leash and we have only found a few things.

    In any gold rush the ones who make the biggest fortunes were not the miners and prospectors but those who sold the miners and prospectors their tools, food, and clothing.

    I learned just a couple of days ago that my 3rd-great-grandfather, John Bennett, was a sea captain -- a master mariner who lived right there at the River Dee, from whence the Royal Charter was launched. According to my family records, John launched it, and his wife Jane christened it. She had smashed a bottle of champagne against the side of the ship for "good luck."
    Regarding Edward Bennett: the brother of that 3rd-great-grandfather of mine (my 3rd-great-granduncle) is named Edward Bennett. He also was a master mariner. I kind of doubt he ever was on the Royal Charter, but he does have a connection to it. (I know he did not die on the ship, at least.) The year, the geographical location, and Edward's occupation all line up. That snuff box may or may not have been his. If he wasn't on the ship for that fateful voyage, perhaps he had gifted the snuff box to a friend who did go on the ship.

    Absolutely loved this short documentary. I'm a prospector from Geelong and there is a street in the main city of Geelong called Fenwick St. Got me wondering if that's where old mate Fenwick lived after the tragic night. Did he come back this way to continue his hunt for the Victorian gold?

    Did the British Crown mine the gold, transport it, or salvage it? Then why do they claim it? I say, “Finders Keepers”.

      because it's landed on British territorial waters and there's a specific law about shipwreck and salvage from thousands of years ago. All modern maritime salvage and recovery laws are similar to that all over the world.
      Legally the Crown through the Receiver of Wreck has to administer all of the wreck on UK territorial waters. If it's from abroad, the finders can keep it after 1 year of unclaimed findings. But back then Australia was a British territory and British Dominion. All Australian were British. Therefore the Crown through the Receiver of Wreck by law, can keep it after 1 year of unclaimed possession after its finding. Since it's not from abroad. If you can prove that you're the owner or the beneficiary, you can get it from the Receiver of Wreck.

    Henry Ford had an internal security(thug) named Harry Herbert Bennett who was involved in the attack of the Union organizers on the infamous Rouge River bridge incident, he was a boxer with some maritime experience. This occurred in Detroit/Dearborn Michigan. May be just a coincidence and reveals the dark side of taking care of business

      Hardy men were more likely to survive being battered by debris & banged around on the rocks than women & certainly children who probably drown rather quickly in a severe storm - not to say there very easily could've been some self-serving loathsome creatures among the men who only looked out for themselves

    That law where the British government takes all treasure finds is a stupid law and it is one that I wouldn't pay any attention to and I bet that the government is losing more finds because of it because the person spends all that time and money to find it and the government steps in and takes it with no compensation that is why I wouldn't say a word and I bet that a lot of people are doing the same thing

    • @ericteneyck8691
      @ericteneyck8691 2 роки тому +1

      I watched the whole thing because it was an interesting bit of history. But I agree, the drama was more created than real, and to much leaping to conclusions. Just one example, the ring "likely belonged" to that one little girl? Well maybe it did, but the word "likely" was a bit strong, it could have just as "likely" belonged to one of the other little girls. Or it may have been a gift that someone was bring home for someone.

    • @jamesdeen3011
      @jamesdeen3011 2 роки тому +1

    • @veronicaroach3667
      @veronicaroach3667 2 роки тому +1

      Well I hated the way they were dramatizing the ring business at the end - that poor old guy was expecting to be given that ring that could have belonged to his family. Of course there was a reason they only took pics of the stuff back to Australia ! The story was interesting, just didn't need all the extra phony stuff !

    • @jamesdeen3011
      @jamesdeen3011 2 роки тому

      @@veronicaroach3667 this whole ring business is highly subjective. There is no way for them to prove whose ring it was or any of the other items. This created for drama only and poorly done so.That poor man was taken advantage of and lied to.
