Why Does the Bible Mention Unicorns?
One day I just decided to sit down and really figure this out.
Now, some people think that the Bible is talking about the mythical unicorn, like the ones portrayed in Charlie the Unicorn: • Charlie The Unicorn
And so they make fun of the Bible, and make fun of the Creation Museum by making websites like "The Unicorn Museum" www.unicornmuse...
But if the Bible is really scientifically and historically accurate, then why would it mention a mythical animal?
I've listened to Creation Scientists answer this question before, but they said they weren't certain what a unicorn was. Instead they said things like, "Probably it's a dinosaur" like in this video:

But what's the real answer?
So I looked up the word unicorn in Noah Webster's 1828 dictionary and it said that this name is often applied to the rhinoceros. It said absolutely nothing about a horse.
So then I looked up the word unicorn in the Webster's New World dictionary and it said it was a mythical horselike animal.
What a difference in definitions!
Then I looked up rhinoceros in the 1828 dictionary and it said that unicorn was the name of the one horned species of the rhinoceros, and bicornis was the name of the two horned species.
Then I found out that the scientific name of the Asian One-Horned Rhinoceros is Rhinoceros unicornis. Then I found out that Diceros bicornis is the scientific name of a two horned rhinoceros called the black rhinoceros.
Then I found out that there is a book online called "The Return of the Unicorns: The Natural History and Conservation of the Greater One Horned Rhinoceros" by Eric Dinerstein.
Then I found out that there is an extinct one-horned rhinoceros called Elasmotherium Sibiricum which scientists today call The Giant Unicorn according to this website:

Then I found out that Ken Ham at Answers in Genesis believes the Elasmotherium might be the unicorn in the Bible, although he isn't for sure.
Then I found out that the Latin bible actually uses the word rinoceros when the King James uses the word unicorn.
So, I was rather surprised when Creation Scientists said they weren't for sure exactly what the unicorn in the bible was.
So I thought I'd make a video and throw in my two cents as to what I found in order to stop the confusion and help out some Creation Scientists with evidence that perhaps they weren't aware of.
I used Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended, After Effects Pro, Premiere Pro, and Soundbooth.

Mos Melendez Hades is the Greek (New Testament) translation of the Hebrew word Sheol. Both mean the grave. The English translation is hell. It's OK for 2 different cultures to have the same word even if the meaning is slightly different.
lukion smith hades is also the deity as well as the realm and is greek "mythology" if i was a buddhist or mayan priest i would simply ascend to my next life journey or if do bad im recycled to suffer until i get it right. to be honest reincarnation can b looked at as a form of resurrection, clone, or b one with everything if you really want to go deep with it. but hey we believe in whatever cuz i dont really know. but i know the bible pretty well and its pretty flawed. not to say it doesnt have meaning in its stories but it does have flaws in it.

Fantastic job using the dictionary. That's why we have to get copies of the older dictionaries, they stopped printing them and/or destroyed as many as they could. They like to change the definitions so they can continue to change history and perpetuate their lies. Yet another awesome video sir, outstanding as always!!

Hi, this is an easy one. Unicorn means "one horn". The people who penned the bible were not Hellinistic Greeks but Hebrews. No mythology to a winged horse nor horned horse.There is no horned horse in Caanan, Mesopotamia, or their cultures. The Unicorn in the Bible is in fact a Rhinoceros. Have a pleasant day.

Wait, so because unicorn in the bible had been confused for the magical horned horse instead of the actually existent rhino, ATHEIST are WRONG? I don't understand how you came to that conclusion because an atheist who has done even a little research on the topic knew that already, a lot of the things described in your bible are real, just none of the supernatural stuff. Atheist are correct until you demonstrate that God actually exist, and unfortunately for you, the bible is still loaded with a lot of information we know to be false, such as rabbits chewing cud, the entire genesis account, and pi = 3 for example. But, we're right until God is demonstrated to exist and not just asserted by people pointing at a book written by other people 2000+ years ago. We know there are mistranslations and forgeries, the stories aren't consistent, there is no evidence outside the bible for the vast majority it, and the stories are supernatural in nature while we live in a universe that appears to not have anything supernatural in it. It would be different if we lived in a universe like they do in the comics where people run around doing magic and using super powers on a regular basis. We see none of that, and every example we try to clarify is either shown to be a fraud (mediums and physics) or we do not have enough information to investigate (Mormonism and their free planet after death deal). If you even remotely think that the religious debate has been won by theist, you're delusional as fuck. Most atheist stop talking about the issue now because there really is nothing new to say. Theist provide no good evidence for their position and play word games, atheist just point out how the logic is flawed and/or the lack of supporting evidence... rinse and repeat. If God was real, he'd be in every science book by now.

What a clown response to this video. You have clearly missed the point. The point is that Atheists are using a modern definition of a word, and applying it to a text that is centuries old. If the definition has been changed, then it would be nonsensical and illogical to apply said modern definition to an older text dated to a period when the definition was completely different. This matters because Atheists are trying to use this as an example of why the Bible is untrue. They are using FALSE EVIDENCE to discredit the text. So yes, correcting their error is important.

i read through the whole Holy Bible from Genesis to Revelation twice in my life and study scripture everyday. And I still have much to learn. The Lord teaching me every day. So I don't pay any mind to people who have not studied the Bible or ever read it. God reveals His Word to His children through his Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit teaches and reveals the spiritual meaning of God's Word. God's Word is hidden from the enemy. Unsaved people have not The Holy Spirit. They are lead by the spirit that's in this world. The spirit of wickedness. These are the children of darkness. It's their carnal ignorance talking and it is the enemy of God's Word. God has turned the wisdom of man backwards.. and the Devil has always attacked God's Word going all the way back to the Garden when he fooled Eve. Even back to Heaven when he challenged God and Jesus kicked him out and he fell light lightning. Truth prevais in the end, because this Babylon false system will fall. Stop trying to cast your pearls to swines, because they will trample on those pearls and turn around and rend(attack) you. . Jesus told me this a long time ago. They are blind. We can only pray for their salvation, after that they need to grow up from being babes in Christ. Many Christians are still on the milk of God's Word not even ready for the meat. Jesus (peace be upon him) never kicked out the devil from paradise, he hadn't even been born yet when that happened. As far as the bible goes have you truly studied it? It's origins and odd verses etc. Like ones talking about feces and so on? The bible has been tampered with, it wasn't meant to last forever, keep learning and may God the Almighty guide you.
I actually do my research on my Bible that's actually from the King James if you look up the word unicorn in a 1828 "Old English" Webster's Dictionary it actually means a single horned animal ... as said in the video I'm tired of hearing people especially atheist use this excuse when they should just do more research on it rather than just wanting to believe that's what kind of unicorn it is talking about to support their non belief in an existence of God

Funny, these same people who use the reference of the unicorn to dismiss the Bible expect us to buy the concept of the " missing link". They use their own "unicorn" to prove their religion, evolution.

1. Evolution isn't a religion, it's a theory, just the same as Christianity....except evolution actually has physical proof.
2. Unicorns don't actually disprove either theory (Christianity or evolution). The people who say they disprove anything don't understand what a rhino is and I agree... that's sad.
3. Don't group every single person into this "stupid group" after literally only watching one clip of a man speaking of unicorns when he didn't understand it was a rhino being spoken of. When I was touched by God to seek truth I studied so many things to find out the depth of statements in the Bible that on surface value allow skeptics to flee from the Bible. God inspired the prophets and the Son to write and speak in a way only someone searching for truth could see. I debate illogical atheists on these forums and they are so convinced their wisdom is greater than Gods. Romans 1 is a clear definition of the new atheist.

If it's all lies then I want to throw it out just like any atheist. If it's true then I want to know so I can study it and know God. first, the unicorn joke only works in the parts of the world where there are "KJV only" fanatics, so not here in scandinavia, and not where people use other translations or any bible software, like e-sword .
second, checking through hebrew dictionaries i only found "unicorn" in one of them, and the same word according to the same dictionary means "wild ox" which is more likely and also is the english word used in other translations
thirdly, the "wild ox" translation is supported in Psalm 22, which use the same hebrew word mistranslated to "unicorn" in KJV in Ps 22:22. In that same psalm, in verse 12, it says even in KJV "Many bulls have compassed me: strong bulls of Bashan have beset me round.". The land of Bashan was a territory east of the Jordan, north of Gilead. It was wellknown for its large animals and its cattle (Num 32:1,4).. Deu 32:14 speaks of "rams of Bashan" and Amos 4:1 speaks of the "cows of Bashan".
fourthly. the absurdity of translating the hebrew word to the english word "unicorn" is especially found in Job 39 which connects this animal with farm work and plowing. Lets see both KJV and NIV on this one:
" Will the unicorn be willing to serve thee, or abide by thy crib? Canst thou bind the unicorn with his band in the furrow? or will he harrow the valleys after thee? Wilt thou trust him, because his strength is great? or wilt thou leave thy labour to him? Wilt thou believe him, that he will bring home thy seed, and gather it into thy barn?" (Job 39:9-12, KJV).
"Will the wild ox consent to serve you? Will it stay by your manger at night? Can you hold it to the furrow with a harness? Will it till the valleys behind you? fifth. for the KJV old testament translation the translators used a text originating in the editions of the Hebrew Rabbinic Bible by Daniel Bomberg (1524-5) and some parts from the Greek LXX or Latin Vulgate. According to the website bibliahebraica.com the rabbinic bible by Bomberg in its early editions "was riddled with thousands of technical errors." which was changed much later.
sixth. one conclusion one can draw is that this shows the limits of human understanding (people thinking everybody is speaking about the same animal, described from journeys in india or africa etc) and that the Bible doesnt support mythical creatures which are mentioned by Aristotle, Claudius, Pliny the Elder and Ctesias of Cnidus. I think the matter shows the problem with language - one people using another peoples descripton of some animal thinking they are speaking about the same animal though they arent, and also people trusting other peoples translation. And people are sometimes lazy and want to earn their bucks too, like the people who sold parts from the Narwhals (Monodon monoceros) as parts from unicorns durnig the 17th century.

This being said, ill look into the rhino theory. No matter if the hebrew word is refering to a Rhino or some kind of Wild Ox, there are no reason to believe the bible support belief in the unicorns of pagan mythology.
It seems to me "horn" is often used as a symbol for strength, success, victory over enemies and salvation, in the bible. Maybe simply because animals with large horns were successful in defeating other animals, and maybe also because the altar had horns. The horns was also used as tools.
The biblical unicorn was a creature which had 2 horns about 1 meter long, the horns aligned just right to look like one single horn when the head was turned at such an angle. In 1980 there were less than 1,000 unicorns on the earth (close to 947 of them), Today; they're considered extinct. Last recorded sightings of any were in niger, Africa in 1980 or 1981. They were unruly, and very unpredictable creatures more so than the Greek zebra, but were such magnificent, beautiful creatures. It is sometimes said that in merlins time and during the reign of King Arthur, that unicorns were in England, a much different climate than northern Africa. History was recorded to be remembered not to be altered because someone wants to be politically correct or gets " offended" by actual events, and/or facts. Today's Disneyland ideas of how a unicorn should appear, is completely different from records that still do exist. Such as Noahs ark, the burning Bush that Moses encountered, remnants of the 1st Jewish temple in Jerusalem, the ark of the covenant ( now found by the way!), remnants of Sodom & Gomorrah, lots wife, records in stone of jobs son Joseph of the old Testament in Egypt, etc., etc., etc., etc., and so on!!! Evolutionists can try to defame the Bible for what it says, but it is an ancient record of how, where, when, and why, things were, in those times. These days it's thought of as a book of old mens tales, which they had dementia too. Words and observations were much different then, compared to modern times. In the Christian Holy Bible it states in a number of places throughout: study to show thyself approved and, GOD IS NOT MOCKED, in revelations it states to test God to see if He is real, holds to his word as the Bible says. Also to try the Bible as if tempering a sword to discover if it's flawed, where, and how. That it is good for criticism, debating, to live ones life according to it, to use as a help to find a remedy to any situation, to gain insight into a matter, to be used in business, legal matters, moral decisions, familial and political matters, to be tested and tried in every imaginable way, to find any fault in it. To do these things: one MUST have and keep a very close relationship to GOD ALMIGHTY. REMEMBER - Seek and ye shall find. To whom much is given, much is required. I will have to say I’ve seen her at a claw machine 2 years ago and witnessed a miracle with my own eyes I wouldn’t believe lol... It's important to go the original bible which is Torah or the Tanakh, as the Christian bibles were Helenized and later Romanized (Latinized) translations of the original Aramaic and Hebrew, neither language of which has changed as vernacular translations of the bible keep coming out. The word used to describe a unicorn in the biblical parashot you mentioned is 'Re'em'. This animal was a kosher animal (horse is not kosher) and was too big for Noah to take on the arc. It lived in deserts. The other animal associated with a unicorn mentioned once during the building of the Tabernacle is haTakhash, and this animal appeared to humans only during this time and disappeared without a trace. It was not edible and was brightly coloured, and possibly not of this world, though it is implied that it had cloven hooves and chewed cud and thus may have been kosher. We know from Aramaic and Hebrew accounts that high-order Angels of G-D were actually terrifying to look at, often with many heads and wings and were huge and did not like humans beyond what they were tasked to communicate to them by G-D. It is likely that takhash was a high order angel sent to monitor the dedication and erection of the tabernacle to ensure nothing like the golden calf happened again, while re'em was likely a more ancient progenitor of your unicornis rhinoceros.
