    As a Seattle area birth doula, I can say it’s definitely the doulas who came in decades before who worked tirelessly to cooperate and teach other local birth workers all the great helps and aid we have to offer - both to women and hospital staff/midwives!! It didn’t used to be that way here but thankfully it seems to be the norm at most hospitals in the area now ❤ very grateful to be doulaing in the PNW!

      Yes, I am so grateful for all of the work that was done in this area to improve the birth world for families and doules too!

      @Mamaroo92. I'm just now considering whether to get into the Doula field in the Seattle area. I'm wondering if you'd be open to connecting as I start this journey? Your wisdom and advice would be so helpful.

    Congratulations on hitting 15 years! I'm at 5 this year and - WOW. I'm really excited to think about being at 15 years myself one day :) I really value your insights, especially being mindful of the burnout and difficulties of working as a doula - as hard as that can be to face. I would say something I've learned in my 5 years that being a doula is a delicate of balance of following the mother and guiding/leading the mother.

    Wonderful information! Thank you! At 57 years of age I am working on obtaining my certification. I’m rethinking my plan! I’m already tired. I am doing this to be my daughter’s doula, but thinking I will definitely need at least 2 partners to develop a successful business.

    Thank you for these videos..I really feel this is my calling..honestly it's beyond feel I know this is my calling. I constantly hear about the challenges of working with the clinical staff. I already work in Healthcare and can most definitely believe this.. I can't lie this is a worry for me especially being African American woman.
    However I know it will work out. Thank you for you advice and information. You are so real with it! 🙂

    Alice, congratulations on 15yrs!! I also want to thank you for your content, knowledge, and wisdom shared. I just attended my very first home birth as a doula this past Sun and just made it back home today. Wow! Wht a beautiful experience, unfortunately mom had to end up going to the hospital at the very end. I have to THANK YOU because my training was great but your videos gave my some different insight and very helpful tips. I was able to incorporate this in my practice and my client and her family were so grateful and truly impressed since this was my first time working as a doula. Continue making a great impact in the birth world and we all truly appreciate and respect all you do here on youtube! Peace and Blessings to you

    I've been a doula for 4 years. I have only been able to work in the hospitals in my community. The city I live in has only 2 midwives and I haven't been able to work with them. I would love to coach a home birth, but I don't know how.

    Advice for how to make connections with the staff at hospitals?

    • @birthtoolbox
      @birthtoolbox  3 роки тому +3

      1) Make sure you introduce yourself to every nurse that you work with
      2) Have something memorable that you wear or bring every time you are at the hospital. I always covered the birth ball with a bright cover and the nurses at one hospital used to say "you are the doula with ball cover". Also, you can point this out like "hello, I'm Alice, the doula that covers the ball with the bright cover"

    • @birthtoolbox
      @birthtoolbox  3 роки тому +2

      Hello! Welcome to the channel. I don't have a specific video for doulas on that topic, but this one explains the 5-1-1 rule that a lot of care providers use as a guide for when to come it. ua-cam.com/video/Y31YhJXVcTc/v-deo.html Also, you might enjoy joining (or watching the replays) the live childbirth series that I am doing March 1-14th.
