It's really amazing how much work actually went into this port. Good thing it's the pc version scaled down rather than the early console versions.

It's funny, I originally bought the standard version of the game for PS3 about a year after it first launched but never got around to it.
I was then given a copy Dark Arisen for the 360 about a year and a half later, and still never got around to it.
And now that it's hit the Switch, I own it three times over. I've never triple-dipped before, let alone with a game I've never played!
It was terrible on release thats why.
It was trying to be so many different games in one. While many of these issues did get fixed.
The larger problem is and always will be that the game just isn't immersive.
The pawn system and that entire premise of having followers with you every single moment is a niche feature that not many people enjoy. Some do but most do not.
The combat system is a mixture of timed hack and slash and aimless button mashing.
The UI is so convoluted and unfriendly to use.
The reason why this game isn't rated up there with the best of them is simply because it isn't.

I have actually bought this twice before I really enjoyed it but never finished it either time. I am tempted to buy it again as I imagine that the train ride may help with the long dull missions. I just love the climbing mechanics and when playing as the Mage it was great once I levelled up my spells. Very monster hunter I found

I just got this yesterday on the switch its on sale for what $4 maybe $5 right now. I'm going through reviews before I play it and before you buy videos to get the scoop on what to expect. I've always wanted to play Dragon Dogma game so here we are
Skyrim $60
Dragons Dogma $30
Bethesda pissing off fans as usual 🤦♂️ (I’ll admit though, the Skyrim switch port was perfect)
I love skyrim buuuut there are quests that are bugged. I've ran into a few where I couldn't complete them in the port
I'm sure we can grab that physical release a touch cheaper. Bethesda need to give me fallout New Vegas. Mark
to be fair bethseda need competition...there was no other open world dragon game except skyrim....and as soon as DD was releasing , skyrim was knocked down to 24 quid...
worked for me...my wallet is empty , but i do have skyrim and dogma 🤣
But at least Bethesda are giving us Doom and Wolfenstein which are new games and they are ported perfectly because Bethesda are paying a proper team to do the job.
Crapcom? Not a fucking chance.
All their ports are lazy and outside of Megaman we have none of their newer games.
@@rezarfar despite being older ports capcom has a better lineup from Megaman titles, Devil May Cry, Resident Evil, Okami, Dragon's Dogma, the Street Fighters, and Monster Hunter Gen U.
Bethesda has more of the same despite having great titles. The Dooms, Skyrim (portable, but unmoddable) and a solid Wolf2.
Wolf:Youngblood is the DMC2 so that cancels out. LOL
But just between the 2 high fantasy titles, i prefer Dogma over Skyrim. Skyrim still has the better world-building, story and lore, but Dogma smashes it in the combat-fun department. Nowadays, Skyrim's combat is very lackluster and feels really dated. Dogma's still keeps up with its better and fun combat mechanics.
I still love both games on my switch though. :)
I've played DD:DA on the PS3 and the PC. You can rest assured I'll be playing it on the Switch as well. Thanks for an awesome review. It is this video that will help me decide my next purchase.

If you want a good idea of how great a game Dragon's Dogma is: I mostly hate RPG games, I tend to dislike the grind, the large open worlds with lots of travelling and don't like how long it takes to get powerful. Dragons dogma has this in spades. The grind is horrible (it took me at least two hours to get my first piece of armour and even more to get a new weapon) its world was massive and there was no way to fast travel outside of that one wakestone to the capital that you get four hours in and it took a far bit to be a powerful bastard. But I love it, its combat is extremely fun and satisfying, especially when you spend thirty minutes fighting an ogre and it finally goes down, the world is beautiful and more than makes up for how large the world is, with there being areas that you don't even explore during the whole story and growing powerful never makes you overpowered. it's a great game with a few problems that you will very quickly get over if you stick with it. 100% recommend it
Edit: I wrote this before playing dark arisen. All of the problems have been solved. Dragon's dogma Dark arisen Is the best RPG ever, hands down

I wanted this badly back in the day and I’m gutted Steamworld has hit the same week as I had the cash for 1 and I adore my Steamworld franchise, but 100% I’ll be picking this up later.

A great review! This is the 4th time I’ve bought this game and it was well ported! I’ve had a few issues, mainly sound issues but I believe those were updated, but nothing crazy! The only thing that really bothers me is how long it takes to access the server upon testing at an inn. Quick fix is to go offline but I play a lot haha But yes buy this game!!!! So much fun!

The struggle is real! I am not a collector, for the most part. I buy games that I think I will enjoy actually playing. That being said, I have around 300 games that I have yet to play for lack of time. Good luck!
The expansion BBI is incredibly difficult, but not impossible. Your max level is significantly higher than you would need to complete it. You could beat it on hard (with a bit of difficulty) around lvl 90-120, but are able to reach lvl 200. I'd buy the switch version just to help fund a sequel, it deserves it.

I just started this and I'm about 2 hrs in and loving it! They definitely got the idea of the dragon stealing the heart from the movie Dragonheart though😂 Even when you look at the scar on your characters chest afterwards the scar looks the same as in that movie lol

Had this game for the PS3 and it was such a well made game. Its really stands out from so many of the other RPGs of its era. I still havent beaten it but HAD to get it for the Switch so I can take it anywhere.
I'm in a similar boat, got it on PS3 and never completed the game despite really loving its unique gameplay, but I've recently picked up a steam copy which I'm making my way through and really appreciating the improved resolution and load times. I'm watching this review because I'm trying to talk a Switch-only friend into picking it up, it's amazing how the game continues to be relatively underappreciated while still being popular enough to merit being continuously ported onto the latest consoles, but what's more amazing is it's still easily one of the best action RPGs out there in purely mechanical terms despite being now a full 10 years old. I've been playing a lot of older titles recently and for 3D games there's usually some control or QOL features which keep reminding you of its age, but honestly the graphics aside if I didn't know when this game was released you could tell me it came out in the last 5 years and I'd fully believe you.
Dragon's Dogma is my favorite action rpg, literally speaking. I didn't try it until it came to PC, but I'm so glad I did. You have no idea how excited I am to start all over again, this time on a system that fits in my (cargo) pocket.
I don't like it when people compare it to Dark Souls, because it's not much like it, despite being visually similar. Instead I'd call it a mix of Fable, Monster Hunter, and Kingdoms of Amalur.
I'm very glad you guys are shining some light on this game. The more pawns out there to hire, the better! Pro tip: Your pawns learn a lot more from you than you might think, much deeper than just the "Inclinations" system makes it seem.

I'm loving this game and am actually playing it for the first time! The combat system is more of what I hoped Skyrim would be. Just the fact that I'm able to dodge simple attacks is a big factor. Killed my first griffin yesterday that took from morning to night in-game😂 had to go with Strider. Super quick melee to long range bow in an instant? Easy pick for my first vocation lol. I've wanted to meddle with the hybrid ones but so far I'm still working on mastering the controls and making combat fast and fluid. Something that Skyrim just didn't have. Really wish I noticed this game way back then😩

Not saying the game isn't great but when they choose to push a narrative that reflects their real life views, I can't in good conscious pay money for it.

Decided to buy this instead of Witcher 3 (already got Witcher for XB1). This game is so much better than it was at original release. Easy mode is a God send, with all the backtracking and enemies respawning, I like feeling like a Slayer and being able to conquer the enemies without much issue. Also love all the customization!
