Well said father. I heard a story that Marie Antoinette was very anxious as she was driven in a cart to the guillotine. The executioner was with her on the cart. She suddenly became very calm and composed when she seen a man in a window on the route. The executioner remembered this and long after the Napoleon wars he went to the building to ask the inhabitants if they knew anything about this or the man. The man was a bishop and the Queen of France had received the last rights as the cart went past. A truly Christian woman.

Absolutely spot on Father. I could see the spirit of the French revolution in it and it was chilling. In particular the homage to paganism (Dionysus scene, the "Spirit of the Seine" horse scene) was very reminiscent of the intense dechristianisation of that era which led to the worship of Reason in Notre Dame cathedral. That malignant spirit lives on.

Once again a great reflection! God bless your gift of insight and reason.
Let's not forget the joy we should also display for the many demonstrations of religious fervour that were broadcast into millions of homes through the actions of courageous and faithful athletes blessing themselves, thanking God in times of success and in in times of completion of an event without reward along with those who wore religious paraphernalia. I must say God got a good innings during these Olympics irrespective of how they opened up or concluded. Let those with eyes see!!

In 2009 our family left Ireland for America. My husband (Irish born), me ,and our 6 children.
We were broke without even enough for food. For years we paid taxes, a lot in taxes.
I went to social welfare for some type of assistance. The man who at social services( admitted communist)
Told my husband to stop working and that we would be cared for
That day my husband said to me, we are going back to America.

Father I'm sorry for going off topic. This is in connection to a comment made by a parent regarding indoctrination in our schools. Few people know this but in October 2018, the government put forward a proposal to ban home schooling. It was rejected on the grounds that the government would have to supply placements for all children with special needs in either special needs schools or in mainstream education. Needless to say, they were not going to fork out for that. But remember, abortion had just been voted in. The first victims of abortion are always the special needs children. They'll bide their time and when enough time has passed, they'll bring it in citing public safety as the main reason. i.e. those who homeschool are extremists, zealots, anti-government, anti-establishment, terrorists etc. This has already happened in Germany where one family had their children removed from them several times, even though they kept winning the court cases. They are Christian and didn't want their children exposed to what was being taught in the schools.
There have been a number of disturbing developments in our schools over the last three or four decades. Here are just a few. Please note that they were all brought in with the "welfare of children" in mind.
Changing of the curriculum which introduced SPHE - which led to parents being terrified to bathe their own child for fear their child would accuse them of abuse, thanks to what they were being taught in school.
It also led to children being exposed to sexual practices and drugs that they otherwise would not have knowledge of or access to. As time went on, teachers in training were being told not to let parents have access to certain materials/books being taught/used in the classroom as the parents are "bigoted." (Removal of parental role, parental control and implementation of terror so parents are too afraid to retaliate.)
The denial of Catholic schools the right to hire practicing Catholic teachers, even though the ethos of the school is Catholic. This has not been the case for other religions or denominations in this country to my knowledge. (Removal of Church/parental control, government/state interference in religious affairs and the undermining of the faith - also affecting the faith formation of children.)
Laws being passed by the state so no school can refuse a child entry based on religious beliefs. As is to my knowledge they never did - so why did it have to be put into law? If it was an issue, why did the state not open up more educate together schools?
The introduction of the 21 day rule. If a child is missing for more than 21 days of school that its automatically reported to the HSE. This was supposed to be introduced to help vulnerable children. Instead, some parents were finding themselves hauled before the courts only for the judge to throw the case out because there were no grounds for them to be there. Kids get sick. (Terrorizing parents and children, undermining parental control, state interference in the family.)
Compulsory sex education - ah yes. Apparently the push is now that if you deny your child access to this type of education, you are neglecting your child. (Neglect being classed as one of the types of abuse a child/vulnerable adult can be subjected to.) It doesn't seem to matter that said child is being exposed to pornography or practices of a sexual nature that could leave them with horrible and even life threatening diseases or injuries - even kill them outright at the first attempt. Oh no! That it exposes them to things that could leave them emotionally, mentally and physically scarred for life. Oh no! That this new education actively pushes them to explore their sexuality and that such practices should be experimented with in the pursuit of their sexual pleasure and gratification. Oh no! Oh and don't worry! If the contraceptives don't work, you can have an abortion. They'll tell you where to get one. As for the HIV prevention meds...well we'll have to get back to you on that one. That's perfectly alright and legal according to the state.
But here we have a two tier system of justice. If a parent or a member of Joe Public did that, they'd be up for child sexual abuse. (I find it deeply ironic given the state's condemnation of the Catholic Church on such issues.)
All of this exposes a child to the most horrible exploitation, physical, emotional, mental and spiritual abuse - and no one can speak because they're too afraid to or they don't know what's going on. How is any of that good for our kids, our families or society in general?
    Lets not forget the latest.
    HOT SCHOOL DINNERS. (What???!!!)
Think about it. Mammy doesn't cook for you now. She'll throw you a sandwich like she's feeding the cat/dog. But the state cares about you. They'll give you a hot meal. Mam and Dad are under increasing pressure because of the rise in the cost of living. They think this is great and eases the burden; not realizing that their parental rights and control are being undermined yet again. Not to mention the health of their children because nobody actually knows the food source. Organic? GMO? Plant based protein? Insect based protein? Foreign meat? Cloned meat? etc.
All of this seems harmless and even beneficial to children. But really, it has subtly undermined the family over time, terrorized parents and exposed children to even greater dangers than those they were supposed to be protected from. Further, it has indoctrinated society into believing that the state is their primary carer in everything. The reality is that the state is leading us towards acceptable murder. Abortion is already in. Now if they can get children to think that their parents don't care about them by making them work all the hours in the day, focusing on the material instead of all their other needs, separate them from extended family, get Mammy out of the role of mother and Daddy out of the role of father, then make them look like they're tyrants/idiots in the children's teenage/college years and give them their value system from propaganda in television, cinema and social media, what's the conclusion?
Well my parents didn't care about me growing up, so why should I care about them? They're in my way to accessing the property they brought me up to value so much (materialism) and I want the house. They're old and a drain on my resources so let's get rid of them. Euthanasia anyone?
Socialism IS Nazism. Socialism IS Communism. Socialism IS Fascism. Its all the one evil under different guises and annihilation of certain members of society is only a matter of time. We've been a Socialist state since its inception in this country. God deliver us.

Thanks Father Brendan. Glad to hear that you had a restful holiday.
I fully agree with what you say here. Unfortunately a lot of people look to a government for everything. They've become so reliant on government to the extent that they are incapable of behaving independently.
Of course the political government and the permanent government want more people to be wholly dependent on it/them. Why? Because this dependency derives more social control on the part of the State
The Paris Olympic opening and closing ceremonies were diabolical. I was not surprised given that country's descent in recent years.
I do believe that France has to implode before it can begin to prosper again.

That the majority of Irish so-called Catholics voted for mass slaughter, abortion, was the final straw. Irish 'Catholics' living in London were flying over to Ireland to vote for abortion. Euthanasia will be next. And what are the priests, Our Lord's representatives on earth supposedly doing whilst seated in their ivory towers. A rhetorical question...Now respond to that Father...

Keeping lines of communication open, practicing our faith at home in our daily lives, be truthful with your children and answer their questions honestly. Rely heavily on the sacraments. The Parody of the last Supper was in effect an act of spitting in the face of our crucified Saviour. The last supper was the first Mass, in which Christ made present in a Mystical and unbloody manner the Sacrifice of himself on Calvary which would occur the next day. Of course, this Sacrifice is made present at every Mass by the Offering of the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ.
Your analysis regarding the French Revolution is spot on Father.
Recently I saw an old 1960 black and white French Film entitled 'Le Dialogue des Carmelites'. This film tells the story of the Carmelite nuns of Compiegne, who were Martyred for their Faith, during the French Revolution.
When the Sisters dismount from the Cart that has brought them to the guillotine, the Prioress Intones the 'Veni Creator Spiritus '. As each nun is guillotined ,
the sound of this beautiful hymn to the Holy Ghost becomes more faint. This scene is absolutely heartbreaking and will reduce you to tears.
To these Martyrs and the Tyburn and other Martyrs, we will never know what we owe as regards our Salvation(at least not in this life).
10 days after these nuns were executed, Robespierre was guillotined: the reign of terror was over.
I recommend this film. It is on UA-cam in French. I believe English subtitles are Available.
A better epoch in the History of France was the time of St. Bernard of Clairvaux and the illustrious King Saint Louis IX. Let us pray for France, the eldest Daughter of the Church.
The Traditional (pre Synodal) Roman Catholic Faith MUST be passed on. It is up to us. I refer to the Faith taught by Pope Saint Pius V(Catechism of the Council of Trent), Pius IX (Immaculate Conception), Pius XII (Assumption), Martin I (Perpetual Virginity of our most Blessed Lady). We must fight for the Mass of Pope Gregory the Great. The Mass St. Joan of Arc attended. The Mass celebrated by St. Maximilian Kolbe.
In spite of the Synod and the antics of Cardinal Roche.
I say all this as someone who has paid a high price for adhering to the faith of my youth: The Traditional Latin Mass and the Catechism of St. Pius V (Trent).
I have been excommunicated twice and had both rescinded.
The longer Synodality persists , the more white Martyrdoms there will be.
Not so with the wicked. Fr. James Martin questions whether the Bible is correct to condemn gay sexual acts. In 1943, in the encyclical 'Divino Afflante Spiritu ', Pius XII declared that the Vulgate Bible (douai rheims) is correct as regards faith and morals. Ergo, Fr. Martin is a Heretic. Yet he receives handwritten notes from Pope Francis thanking him for his Normalising of Sodomy.
I reject Fiducia Supplicans with the same Vigour as my Parents rejected Satan
and his Works at my Baptism. This degenerate document is not part of the Sensus Fidelium, is not part of the Ordinary and universal magisterium nor ex Cathedra. It is not from an ecumenical Council. It is a dodgy pastoral document based on bad Theology.
Our Irish Hierarchy are a sore disappointment. They tried to hide the fact that they met clandestinely with Fr. James Martin. I knew about it a week beforehand.
Are the Irish Bishops so inept and bereft of ideas on how to Sanctify and Govern the Irish Church, that they need lectures on Synodal Theology from a public Heretic? Some enemy has done this.
When suspended redemptorist Tony Flannery said in the Galway Clayton Hotel on Spy Wednesday last, that the Dogma of Original Sin wasn't true, what did our episcopal heroes do? Nothing. Silence betokens Consent. If you say that the Dogma of Original Sin isn't true, you immediately strike down the Dogma of the Immaculate Conception of our most Blessed Lady. Where does it end? Fr. Flannery like the Pied Piper is leading Souls to Hell and the Irish Hierarchy does nothing!!! The great lion of the west, Archbishop McHale would have handled this better.
Pray for Pope Francis. Pray For Fr. Martin. Pray for the Bishops. Pray for Tony Flannery.
I would like to end by recommending the best book on the Mass I have ever read. It is called 'The Incredible Catholic Mass ' by Fr. Martin von Cochem. It was written before V2 and is ultra safe. The English translation bears the Imprimatur of the illustrious Archbishop Michael Augustine Corrigan, 3rd Archbishop of New York.
The book is available Online from TAN USA and Blackwells UK.

When it comes to the Right and Left, my instinct is always to say "a plague on both your houses." I suppose that's partly because, here in the states, the political divisiveness has reached such a fever pitch that most Christians, including Catholics, seem to have completely forgotten that our battle is not against flesh and blood but against powers and principalities. Another reason is that, while I concur with what you say about the Left, I am wary of a tendency on the Right to try and defend the indefensible re: businesses and the toll they take on society in the pursuit of profit. That's why, when it comes to economics, I personally lean toward a distributist perspective a la the Chesterbelloc. On the whole, though, I think I've just grown weary of seeing so many American Catholics, on both the Right and Left, filtering their religious beliefs through their political views instead of the other way around. I think one of the most prevalent forms of heresy, both in America and abroad, is politics-based worldviews. Partisan journalists seem to have stolen the pulpits from the Christian preachers of yesteryear.

I know you said all you're asking for is common sense, but we need honesty from the left too, and that's the first thing they jettison in their pursuit of power.

I don't know how you have the courage to speak the truth amongst such a world of cowards. I only pray that more truth speaking would come out of our church. I've been asking all that I can, where are the right wing who'll say that government is the most inefficient most expensive way to provide anyone with anything and the competitive free market always rises to meet demand providing everyone with better and better quality products and services at lower and lower prices, the right wing who will say that the poor would be less in number and better cared for if we never had a welfare state and had always been dependent upon the willing charity of their fellow man, that they'd be better looked after and it would cost their fellow man less. The left are full of care and compassion out of someone else's pocket.

I am extremely glad, father, that you can spot and well articulate the striking similarities between socialism, communism, national socialism and fascism. They they are essentially the same ideologies that only vary in nuances. Different puppets, same show.
Big omnipresent government, ideological monopoly, total control of every aspect of people's lives, governmental control of the economy, massive social programs provided by the state, dependence of citizens on the state, censorship, compliance and uniformity of behaviour. Repression of Christianity, free will and diversity of thought, heritage, tradition and customs.
Labeling national socialism as "extreme right" is a masterpiece of the Soviet propaganda and Western leftists intellectuals, who created this myth in order to distance themselves from national socialism and brand themselves as the "good guys" who fight against it. In reality there are no good guys, the only purpose of this propaganda is to eliminate competing socialist ideologies. It's Pistolero vs. 666, one gang against another gang.
National SOCIALISM has it in its name, it is hardly a right wing ideology, although it carries elements of both left and right. The Austrian painter was in 1919 member of a radical Marxist organization with ties to Moscow Bavarian Soviet Republic ( yes, it really did exist) founded by Jew Kurt Eisner. Julius Schrek, his chauffeur and a founder of Schutzstaffel (SS) also was a communist in 1919. Nazi Germany and Soviet Union together attacked Poland under Molotov- Ribbentrop Pact. Later the Germans betrayed the Soviets and attacked them as well. That was the pivotal point from which these two socialist movements went their separate ways and tried to distinguish themselves from one another. Germans became nationalistic and anti-Semitic, communists became internationalist and kept their antisemitism hidden. And, as we know, it's the winners who write the history. Germans lost the war and their ideology was demonised. Soviet communism and Western liberalism, modernism and socialism was promoted.
But in essence all socialist collectivist ideologies are anti-human. They prioritise interests of the state over interests of its citizens, people are seen only as a replaceable cogs in the giant state apparatus.
The reason why socialists hate and attack Christianity is simple. Christianity is a powerful weapon against socialism or at least against its most harmful parts. Christian moral code and Christian principle of Sanctity of life and humility represent a serious obstacle to socialist disregard for life and killings in a name of "greater good" and against God-like complex of socialist leaders. Christianity worship God, socialism worships government / leader / class / party.
The biggest atrocities in the last century were perpetrated by socialists and big governments unhinged by Christianity. French Revolution was the first serious and bloody example of decoupling the West from Christianity.
