Found you through a reddit post and gotta say you are so helpful thank you so much! Just started posting up some YT shorts and learning on the fly and you have a great way of explaining things (and generous with assets) so thank you! Hopefully I can buy from you in the future
Thank you for the shootouts! Any tips for getting grain to look good at 1080p? I don't see myself uploading past that, but I really love the look of 16mm grain on things...
It comes down to compression at 1080 - UA-cam actually gives a little more bandwidth to 4k video rather then 1080. So I would suggest to upres your export to 2k or 4k just to get a better looking 1080
Spencer! just tried to shoot you a text but you've changed your number haha. What's the best way to get a hold of you? I have a Resolve question way too specific to ask here
I edit in resolve, but in premiere I would always recco a VBR 2 pass. If its 4k I think i recall the numbers being in the 40ish range (i could easily be wrong) I've also found that apply a small amount of sharpening on top of the grain actually keeps the grain intact and keeps it from getting muddy on export. Hope that helps

Thanks for the hard work! I keep tweaking my grain levels with every upload which brought me here. This is super helpful! 🙏
Much needed video. In general, a mapping of the youtube compression would be useful, but impossible to make
thanks so much for the tests!
getting grain past youtube compression nowadays is like landing a spacechip on the moon
will leave it at spacechip
Thank you Spencer for covering such an important topic!
Thank you for making the best grain out there 💖

You need more subscribers!

In the descriptions of the test do you include what plugin/software those settings belong to?
yes!
thanks man
My issue is the grain looks good in premiere pro but when exported it looks like crap.. What are your export settings?
