I like your reviews. After more thean 20 years, I'm replacing my adcom amp with the Outlaw 7000x. The 7000x should be here tomorrow. I have 3 Martin Logans up front and want your suggestions for budget Atmos surrounds that would best match them until I rebuild the home theater room correctly. I'm looking forward to hearing the Atmos surround because right now I'm only running 5.1.
I’ve been running an outlaw 5 channel for about 6 years now and recently purchased the 7000x for my back surrounds and height speakers, I can definitely hear a difference. As you said the height speakers now have more bass and add more to the effects of movies now and the surrounds produce the slightest sounds and effects now. The 5 channel which produces 220 watts per channel I believe has always been a stunner and my center and mains don’t sound as good without it. Great review, I was looking for a review on the 7000x but outlaw amps don’t seem to be as popular. Thanks for finally reviewing these awesome amplifiers.
Seems only budget brands are the most popular here on UA-cam, which I get. They always get the most views etc. since they’re more attainable. But these outlaws are definitely better than most multichannel amps I’ve heard.

@@eja35oz I bought the Outlaw when I had a 5.2.2 system with a Yamaha Aventage 860. Like all the receivers in that $1000 MSRP area, when all channels are driven you are getting ~40 watts per channel. They were driving Definitive Technology BP30s, CLR2000, BP8s, and BP1xs, which are ~92db efficient speakers. Subs are PB2000s. Adding the Outlaw helped a ton on that system. So much more headroom, dynamic impact, and crystal clear dialogue, even during busy scenes. I built a home theater and decided to go to a 7.2.4, so I swapped the Yamaha for the Marantz 7012, and the Def Techs were sold and replaced with DIYSG speakers. Already having the Outlaw, I used it for LCR and two of the Atmos speakers as the 7012 has 11 channels of processing but 9 channels of amplification. Where did you get your amp rack in the background,,, been looking for one that can accommodate all my gear., and thanks for the review given i am looking for an amplifier also.
The model 5000 was one of my considerations when deciding to go separates but wanted more output, the 7220 wasn’t out yet or it may have made my short list as I’ve heard nothing but good stuff about Outlaw audio. In the end I chose the Emotiva XPA7 Gen3 power amp.
Another great video, I love your insight and instrumental music as well, nice beats. Check out the Monoprice Monolith amps, and let us know what you think. I currently have the Emotiva XPR 5, Emotiva XPA 7, 3 Crown 2502's. I love the Crowns and XPR 5 which is I believe gen 2. The XPA 7 connected Definitive Technology Mythos ST-L's via Integra DRC-1 Preamp is okay, but my listening position is approximately 14 ft away from the speakers and I have to set the volume to at least 40 out of 100 before I start to get some decent sound. Conversely, either the Crowns or the XPR 5 connected to my Oppo BDP 105D, or the Marantz 8805 and the volume very rarely needs to go beyond 20 out of 100. To be fair the speakers in this setup are Goldenear Triton Reference

Agreed. Looked at both the Outlaw and Monolithic 7x200 and I think im leaning more towards the Monolithic. Maybe we can get a review of this on the channel in the near future..?
I'm not certain but it seems those amps aren't fully balanced. If they were they would have mentioned it in their specs. At least you would think they would. It's one of the reasons the Outlaw cost what it does.
You say the 7220 has a list price of $2800. That was it one year ago. The current list price is up to $3499. I have never seen a manufacture increase the price of their product in electronics, especially a jump of $700 in 1 year.
I was comment with something similar. @SpareChange the amp originally started at $2299 in August of 2018 when it was first released. Now it's $3499. I'm curious as to why. Is it because of the changes with China? I know this is made in the US but, from what I understand is that most of the components and steel comes from China. Either way, a $1200 increase is just nuts.
@@therealshanelee someone finally answered that for me. You're the man Shane. now my next question. how does better power get you cleaner and more detailed sound? I was told that 100 watts from a dedicated amp sounds a lot better than 100 watts from an AVR. but how?
@@velocci6666 A dedicated amp has better components and a larger power plant that is not split up into as many channels. Plus an Amp is as large as a receiver in many cases while a receiver is trying to do both, so it will make compromises.
Great review. Def going separates with external amplification and emotiva is looking more and more appealing. My hang up is which receiver should I get. Denon 4500 or Marantz 6013. It’s home theater use only not for music. Thoughts?
If you're not using it for music I'd say to grab a Denon and save some money. Marantz are better when using for music but Denon will be just as good for movies.

Sad they are not imported to Australia with a voltage switching over to 240 volts mains but you can buy them on Some online sites to Australia but again you have to buy a voltage converter to messy and expensive.
I live in australia and have 3 rotel power amps. You should consider them if you are in the market. I have an 11.2 monitor audio setup and they powet all but the sub.
Why arent AVRs powerful enough to power high end speakers? I feel like stand alone amps should be obsolete by now. You pay 600 bucks for an avr and another 600 for an amp...does not make sense to me...
Depends on which speakers you're talking about. As long as your speakers have a sensitivity of 89db or higher a receiver should have no problem driving them. But using an amp for the 2 or 3 front channels will lessen the load of an avr big time and make things sound better.

Yes this will output 120 all channels driven. Your receiver isn’t 140x5 all channels driven. It’s measured at 2 channels driven. You’ll get a fuller sound by adding the Outlaw.
Thanks for the info I had no idea you replied UA-cam normally alerts me but didn’t for some reason. I’m 2months late seeing this smh. I really appreciate your reply Shane I’ve been wrestling with this for a while thanks 🙏 again!!!!
Shane how would you compare the 7220 outlaw to the Rotel 1585?
Have you tried Parasound A51?
I wish someone could answer this question.
OSD Black amplifier is about $100 cheaper and has balanced XLR's not to mention its an H Class Amplifier. I think it's worth a close looking into.......
the only time you get rca and xlr is in the pre/pro world..
you only get rca output on select high end receivers..
Which processor do you recommend with outlaw 7220? I have Martin Logan ESL's in a 7 speaker set up.
Sir,
I have subscribed to 4 other audio and HT channels. FINALLY a good review without all the fluff... My ears have been spoiled by my old YAMAHA non HDMI receiver. My new Denon AVR3700 just doesn't have the depth/power that I am wanting. Bought the 3700 bc of amp outs for this reason. Only running a 5.2 configuration Veritas ENERGY with 1000 and 500w Klipsh. So I'm now sold on the Outlaw 5000.
Un-subscribing to other channels.
Just saying...
Its a great amp for a good price.
How much better did you like the outlaw 5000 instead of the Yamaha and Denon amps?
Where did you get your amp rack in the background,,, been looking for one that can accommodate all my gear., and thanks for the review given i am looking for an amplifier also.
It's a Middle Atlantic rack.
The model 5000 was one of my considerations when deciding to go separates but wanted more output, the 7220 wasn’t out yet or it may have made my short list as I’ve heard nothing but good stuff about Outlaw audio. In the end I chose the Emotiva XPA7 Gen3 power amp.
same but rp280f with 96db sensitivity @ 150w rms it is enough
Hey Shane, do you run your speakers full range along with your subs (LFE+Main) or do you set crossovers?
I've been letting the Trinnov do it's thing. Looks like 80 is where I've been rolling off.
Why do you have to turn the volume up that high to get a decent sound can you explain that to me
If my budget is around$1500 , Would you recommend getting a marantz sr 5013 and adding the outlaw 5000 or just getting the marantz 6013? For a 5.2.2 setup
eja35oz I have the sr5012,with outlaw 5000 I’m pretty happy
EddieTours which speakers are your running with outlaw and is their a noticeable improvement than using their marantz by itself?
@@eja35oz i just the svs Pinnacle and running with the outlaw it really improves the stage sound love it :) the marantz by itself was ok
Holy crap those look amazing. I'm really interested in the 5000. Do you know how these compare to parasound?
I know this is an old review, but after using both now, do you think the amplitude is worth a 10K premium over the 7220?
It's been far too long for me to even pretend to remember what the Outlaw sounded like.
@@therealshanelee Yeah I figured
Great stuff Guy. Can you do a review on the new OSD BLACK AMPLIFIER and give me your thoughts vs the Outlaw 5000 amplifier.
I've tried and returned it. Not worth it.
@@therealshanelee I have 4 polk tsi500's, polk csi a6 center channel, 2 Definitive technology pro monitor 1000's for front height, klipsch r120sw Subwoofer with Pioneer elite vsx-lx503 receiver. I want to get 2 more def tech 1000 for rear surround. What Amplifier do you recommend. Now everything sounds awesome but can't imagine how much better it will sound with the right amplifier added.
The outlaws would be a great choice or the DR line from Emotiva.
@@therealshanelee Thanks, think I'm going Emotiva 9 or 11 channel
Happy Holiday’s i purchase the 5000x last month and i’m Running front stage on it, i hear a slight buzz through the tweeter’s and you only can hear it when your close up to the tweeter, is that normal?
You might have a ground issue or maybe a bad connection somewhere. Remove all the RCA cables and plug them in one by one and see if you still hear the buzz. Also try plugging into a different outlet.
Also try running a wire from the amps grounding post to your avr's or pre/pro grounding post. That got rid of buzz for me.
What about the outlaw 7000
hey shane can i use the outlaw audio model 5000 to power the svs prime elevation speaker which is 150 watts into 8ohms
Yes you can.
Hell yeah
@@therealshanelee hello, Shane would the outlaw 5000 be too much power or would be a good fit for the JBL studio 530 bookshelf speakers?
The updated 5000X looks pretty nice for the price
What's so upgraded about it what's so much better
@@joeslacker1020 XLR inputs were added to the 5000x..."updated" doesn't imply major improvements....but XLR inputs are definitely a welcomed addition to the input panel.
@@chemicallust77 what do you think of Integra versus outlaw audio more specifically I was looking at the Integra DTM 7 vs outlaw audio 5000x for JBL bookshelf studio 530 speakers. The specs on the DTM from Integra are rated output power: 100 watts at 8 ohms with 0.08% harmonic distortion and then max effective output power at 170 watts at 10% harmonic distortion... Ty
@@joeslacker1020 Either/or?...if it comes down to your primary, I would go with the Integra to start and work out from there...the power output specs are similar....but the Integra will give you a lot more versatility with inputs and source selection...the JBL are 125w at 6ohm, which means your Integra will be putting out around 160 wpc (maybe more), which is more than the 530's require...they'll sound great and you'll have plenty of overhead for dynamic peaks if you're listening at above casual levels...keep in mind, this is only if 1 set of speakers is being driven...since the Integra has A/B/AB capabilities, I don't know if that load is being divided between 2 or 4 channels...I would have to do some research on it to know more...my receiver is a DTR 8.8 and I baby it, so I run the front mains with a separate amp despite not actually needing to
@@chemicallust77 I've uploaded the spec sheet integra sent me on imgur I'm not sure if it'll help ya a lot though...

Have you had an opportunity to review the Outlaw Audio Model 976 preamp/processor?
I could but it doesn't support immersive formats so I won't be covering it.
@@therealshanelee would you recommend this 500 amp by outlaw or the Integra DTM7 for studio 530 bookshelf speakers from JBL?
I watched the Arendal review video and recall you only having a 5.0 setup with those. Have you expanded to 7.0? What are the overhead speakers?
EDIT: Just saw the extra pair on your back wall, my bad
All Arendal.
@@therealshanelee Thanks for your video Shane.. would you have any recommendations for "in ceiling" overheads to match the Arendals. Sadly my room cannot accommodate the Arendal Heights
When you say reference levels - what exactly does that mean? Thanks!
Check out our video on it ua-cam.com/video/998b-T5NPIo/v-deo.html
means your volum setting is at 0db
Who's the jerk that always votes down on your videos? Pretty annoying. Anyways great video as usual. Just curious what do you usually set your crossover to on your front 3 speakers when you are running the subs?
Right now they’re at 60.
Gotta do the Monolithic amps from Monoprice Shane.
Agreed. Looked at both the Outlaw and Monolithic 7x200 and I think im leaning more towards the Monolithic. Maybe we can get a review of this on the channel in the near future..?
Monolithic amps also made by ATI and now with balance inputs
I love my Monolith 7x200!
I'm not certain but it seems those amps aren't fully balanced. If they were they would have mentioned it in their specs. At least you would think they would. It's one of the reasons the Outlaw cost what it does.
@@therealshanelee New version is ba lanced.
A lot of people say amps are more dynamic. What does that mean?
They play louder and cleaner and more detailed.
@@BrianGarside thanks brian
Great review. Def going separates with external amplification and emotiva is looking more and more appealing. My hang up is which receiver should I get. Denon 4500 or Marantz 6013. It’s home theater use only not for music. Thoughts?
Yes. Get a preamp processor not a receiver.
SpareChange any preference on which would be best in that 1500$ price range. Wanting 11 Channels for a 7.2.4 configuration
If you're not using it for music I'd say to grab a Denon and save some money. Marantz are better when using for music but Denon will be just as good for movies.
@@Rob_James Pre-pros are typically $2100+ like the Marantz 7705 which will sound better than a receiver when paired with a decent amp.
Brian Garside thanks I went with the denon 4400 11 channel. it’s been great Only prob, which really isn’t at this time is the lack of imax enhanced feature I have a basx 5 channel external amp for each group (1 for LCR, 1 for side and rear surrounds and 1 for 4 atmos)
Brooooo I found Aquaman too bassie and unrealistic bass... Have you checked the most Godzilla King Of Monsters? It’s wicked for LFE that’s realistically placed in the movie.
$2800 for 7220 is more like $3400 usd
The 7220 is now $3500! Yikes!
Please, it is AArendAAL not Aréndál. It is a town o Norway (where Elsa comes from) ALL the A´s are equally long!
Man I just think your reviews have been lack luster after weeks of waiting. I think the last Rotel one was better. You get such great gear I just wish you'd compare products some more and gave your opinion about the value of a product. Aka why should I or not go for a product.
Seems like you're in a great price point for products so I know you have good taste. Come out a little stronger on your opinion maybe?
Sad they are not imported to Australia with a voltage switching over to 240 volts mains but you can buy them on Some online sites to Australia but again you have to buy a voltage converter to messy and expensive.
I live in australia and have 3 rotel power amps. You should consider them if you are in the market. I have an 11.2 monitor audio setup and they powet all but the sub.
@@dalechalfont112 Rotel is very nice. Just stay away from the class D stuff as it doesn't sound as good and not as reliable as the class a/b stuff.
Outlaws bang for buck though. Decisions decisions...
I will recommend the outlaw
EddieTours over emotiva?
Jacob Garcia I like more accessibility and budget friendly. Thanks for the info
Why arent AVRs powerful enough to power high end speakers? I feel like stand alone amps should be obsolete by now. You pay 600 bucks for an avr and another 600 for an amp...does not make sense to me...
Ideally you'd buy a processor and not a receiver if you were going to buy an amp. ua-cam.com/video/1eOxqbQY__g/v-deo.html
Depends on which speakers you're talking about. As long as your speakers have a sensitivity of 89db or higher a receiver should have no problem driving them. But using an amp for the 2 or 3 front channels will lessen the load of an avr big time and make things sound better.
TACOS!
Put hands away !
