At this stage it would be easier to make a list of IRA members who were not informers.

Each side done it to their own also to trap the teenagers to join them. The whole troubles were dirty, corrupt and deceptive. Only the innocent suffered.

Both sides informed like crazy, they carved up turf together, the split the drug scene together and the split the illegal goods together. It was always about the money.

Never heard of this guy before this afternoon.
Ricky O'Rawe did a great podcast with Mick Clifford within the last week about his book about Scapaticci in which he said that it was his opinion that Scap was just the tip of an iceberg.
The Brits know that, and so do the Provos.
As Brendan Hughes said of the Belfast IRA: 'Belfast was riddled'.
I can only imagine that Derry and other areas were as well.
    A filthy business all round.

Brendan Hughes was convinced the internal security unit was so badly infiltrated that if he started snooping he wouldn't last a week. He stated the unit's leader, deputy leader and 3 other senior members were all working for FRU or Special Branch. Was he right? It seems like he was.

      @@thetruth7386 I reckon so.
He said he wanted to question Joe Fenton about the procurement and bugging of houses for Provos, but he got nutted before Hughes could get to him.
That's when Hughes got worried for himself.
I think it's at the end of 'Voices from the Grave'.
      Up The Dark!!!

@@cheapy2006 it is pretty obvious that the Branch in particular informed their agents that under no circumstances was Fenton to be moved south for an interrogation with Brendan Hughes. If he had been then the whole game was up. And the Branch knew it. Hughes said when he confronted Scap about killing Fenton Scap gave a cock and bull story about too much security presence in the area to move him or keep him in a safe house. So they shot him out of hand. Hughes stated he never bought that for a second.
Fenton was an agent for Special Branch and it can only be guessed at in regards the damage he did. Long term damage as well. Just another pawn in the game and discarded once he was discovered. It is safe to say that even with all the infiltration and treachery nothing would have turned Brendan Hughes.

A troubled time in our history but a line has to be drawn in the sand. Further inquiries just bleeds the system no wonder Winters wants to continue all this has made him a wealthy man something he fails to acknowledge. No one's loved ones are coming back and as difficult as that is we must move on. Society in Northern Ireland is stuck in the past. Yes I've lost friends along the way.

So, the funding from the states, the surplus of guns, the assassinations, the bombings campaigns were all just ideas, and not organised activities?

💓🇮🇪💓🇮🇪💓🇮🇪💓🇮🇪💓🇮🇪💓🇮🇪💓🇮🇪💓🇮🇪 People must remember it was not ireland that invaded England it was England that invaded Ireland Germany invaded France in the second world war and a French resistance was formed the people of France did not want Germany in their country the people of Ireland do not want England in their country this man who has been an informer I cannot understand why he would want to do that if he does not want a free and independent ireland he should move to another country if somebody broke into your house would you not try and push them out it is no different when England invaded Ireland Ireland is one large piece of rock in the Irish see for everybody to enjoy not to put barriers across the north of the ireland dividing the ireland into two when England invaded Ireland they considered it to be normal behaviour when England invaded the Caribbean countries and brought the coloured people back to England and sold them in the market place like cattle the English considered that to be normal behaviour Ireland is a peaceful place in the world that just wants to live on it's own ireland it has no intentions of ever invading England but many believe England must leave the north of Ireland.... If England is to survive in the world in the future it needs to change its ways... For the love and freedom of Ireland 💓🇮🇪💓🇮🇪💓🇮🇪💓🇮🇪💓🇮🇪💓🇮🇪💓🇮🇪💓,

Regarding the two men who were kneecapped, I was under the impression that the IRA first gave a warning to individuals involved in anti-social activity, an opportunity to desist from their behaviour, before moving to the punishment phase?
Let's not forget, besides their so called military campaign the IRA was acting as a police force, judiciary, and hangman in the North. And they did so with popular support. Like Hamaz today, they were voted into power in several cases.

    • @TheThirdFall
      @TheThirdFall 6 місяців тому +2

There's not a really simple answer to the kneecapping question. There's definitely plenty of cases where they've told people to get out of Ireland and then shot them afterwards, but there are also examples where someone has been shot after crossing a local IRA man.

Cyril was a great lad. On the morning at R15, a proxy bomb entered the checkpoint. The instruction was to throw the tried in driver cutters and to evacuate. Cyril raised the alarm, then cut the driver out, lead him to safety basically carrying him. The count of persons from the road that exited North to a safe position was 1 down, no one at the time knew that 1 Ranger went into the checkpoint compound and exited out across the railway line. Cyril went back to find this Ranger thinking he'd not exited
