Dynamic Stretching and Warm Up for Runners

- This stretching video is meant to serve as a warm up for runners. Not discussed here, it would be ideal to perform 2-5 min very light cardio before completing this routine.
The current consensus amongst top sports trainers is that a pre-event warm up and stretching routine should mimic the forces of the activity you are about to do. Since almost all sports involve repetitive movements, our warm up stretching should mirror this. This describes the concept of dynamic flexibility. Instead of stretching and holding a position, we will utilize gentle, repetitive motions on key muscle groups and movement patterns. Static stretching is still important, but should be utilized after your workout. Yoga is also a great form of dynamic flexibility exercise.

fantastic warmup, changed my running life and rescued me from shin splints.
I work in retail and do a lot of lifting. I have tight shoulders and have tried static stretching to relieve this stiffness. I have even been to a massage therapist and to no avail it only takes 1 day and i'm right back to square one. After doing those simple stretches i feel amazing. Dr. Iodice's warmup routine literally has changed my running life. I used have severe shin splints after a run, now since I've been doing his routine I feel no pain at all after a really long run. Thanks sir!!!

Hay, could you make video, where you warm up without description, so we could follow your moves in real time? Once i do it few times, i will remember, but till then it's difficult to warm up using this video.
Thank you! You're a life saver. I usually don't stretch before I go for a run, but I learned the hard way that it is best to stretch before running. My muscles feel tight and ready. Can't wait to run in a few minutes. Thanks for the dynamic stretches bro.

I have tried many warm up routines before running but this is my ultimate favorite!! I love this video because Dr. Iodice walks you thru each full body dynamic stretch. Thank you Dr. Iodice!! I would love to see a post run stretch as well if you make future videos.

I’m new to running and to old to be just running straight out of the door! I’ve tried a few different warm up videos but this has been the best. I have had no trouble with pulled muscles since I’ve been doing these stretches pre run👍🏻
Thank you very much for this instructional video. I have been in the USAF for 18 years and wish we had this type of instruction before we were forced to complete mile-long "FUN RUNS'. I have had several foot injuries over the last decade (as I've aged) and am working hard to train safely. This video helps immensely.
Almost hurt my knee the other day, this warm up help a lot this time.
This warm up / stretch changed my running life! Prior to doing this I'd finish a run with knee and shin pain, and now I have none!
