Thanks for the comments Michael, glad the video was able to help get yours swapped out. It's crazy the Dealer wants you to buy the complete door panel for $1500 for a broke door handle. Thanks again for hanging out. Cheers!
Hey Bradley thank you for your highly detailed video on how to fix the door handle. Your straightforward instructions and video helped me to replace the handle in about 1.5 hours..added bonus is I didn't break anything in the process! This is my Moms car and she was quoted $1500 at the stealership! I repaired it for $20. Many Thanks Again!
Thanks for the kind words Rolland, glad the video helped you out with your Mercedes. It's crazy they want $1500 for the entire door panel and that's their fix. Yes, it takes some time to replace but like you said, $20 and a couple hours and you are good for another decade or more. Cheers!
The absolutely best UA-cam video I have ever watched. Thank you. We have the panel off but realized it was going to be a nightmare with all the plastic rivets. We are prepared to take this on thanks to you! One question, Mercedes can't use metal? How chinchy.
Thanks for the kind words, glad you enjoyed the video. Not sure why they use plastic handles but everything seems to be made of plastic these days. Pop the hood and take a look at all those plastic parts that will be failing at some point. We made a few other videos on this C250 and plastic is the reason most of the time. Good luck on your Mercedes project. Cheers!
Hi I’m in Australia and I followed this video and replaced my handle. Although mine was broken on the right side of the car. Thank you, it made it so easy to follow and do. I also followed another of videos a little while back to replace the plastic coolant pipe over the top of the engine. 👍
Thanks for the kind words, glad the videos helped you out with your Mercedes-Benz projects. Congrats on getting these repairs done yourself and saving a ton of cash. Cheers!
Thank you, Bradley, you are a lifesaver my handle just broke I will have my son help me fix my car because I know the dealer will charge me for the whole panel just because!! 🙂Appreciate your clear instructions too.
Thank you so much for this wonderful gift. It saved me hundreds of dollars. Mercedes dealer wanted me to replace the entire panel. Following your instructions made it possible to replace the handle myself. I really appreciate ❤

Hello Bradley, from the land of the Mercedes stars, thank you very much for your video clip. I bought the door handle online in the aftermarket for just under 20 dollars. Thanks again and keep up the excellent service ...
@@BradleysGarage I already replaced the door handle yesterday. Thanks to your video, which ran parallel to the installation on my Mac, everything worked perfectly ...
I’m stuck at the 12:50 step, the pin won’t come out. I used a thin drill bit to make a hole and the drill bit broke and part of it stayed inside the pin. Any other way to remove that pin??
Sorry to hear you are having trouble with the handle. If you are unable to grab any piece of the broken drill bit or plastic pin, our recommendation would be to use a fine Dremel bit to basically bore out the pin. We have heard of guys who don't want to take the panel apart, drilling the bottom side of the trim, where the pin would come through. Theoretically you could remove the handle assembly without taking everything apart. Then you could just use a punch to drive the pin out. We don't recall if that hole is visible afterwards though. Good luck on your Mercedes-Benz project, let us know how it goes. Cheers!
Hey I was following this video and copied what you did to remove the pin. Unfortunately, for some reason I cannot pull out the pin. Is there an alternative to this ?
Sorry to hear you are having trouble with your door handle Daniel. We found the drill/screw method to be the best way to remove that plastic pin. You could also drill a hole from the bottom side to push the pin out but that hole may be visible from the inside of the car after it's put back together. Good luck on your Mercedes project, let us know how it goes. Cheers!
Hey Bradley, Thank you for the your precise and detailed video. I wish I found this before breaking the little LED strip around the interior handle. Do you happen to know the part number or where about to buy that LED strip? I'll appreciate your reply. Thanks again
Thanks for the question, we were surprised that the interior light was available separately. Please confirm your model for proper fitment. MBZ Part # 204-825-00-01 www.mboemparts.com/oem-parts/mercedes-benz-interior-lamp-2048250001 It's pretty cheap too which is very nice to see. Good luck on your Mercedes-Benz project, let us know how it goes. Cheers!
I'm watching as I fix mine now. So far I've removed the innards and I'm having a coffee before I attempt the pin. I found a thin sharp chisel on its back side will gently cut the heads off. It's midnight and my car's getting an mot tomorrow so Im here until finished. Thanks for video.
@@BradleysGarage Great video! 🔥 May I ask kindly for the part number to refer to? I just reached out to the dealership. They advised I need part number, otherwise I would have to purchase entire panel. Please advise when time permits Thanks for your help
I've done this very job on my own W204 (2009 C200). I replaced the handle because the chrome was peeling off on my driver's door handle (the right hand side as my W204 is a UK RHD car). It is fine to use aftermarket parts such as this. I didn't need to remove the door frame trim on mine but my C200 is a pre-facelift W204.
Sorry to hear that, not sure what you mean by drilled too far? If you drilled to much plastic material from the panel, the only option would be to get larger diameter screws in order to get them to bite. If there is still not enough material then you could try to epoxy the panel back together and hop that the handle never breaks again. Good luck on your Mercedes project, Cheers!
Yes, the replacement is the same plastic. We didn't search if anyone makes a metal version. We figured we got at least another 10 years with the plastic handle. Good luck on your Mercedes-Benz project, Cheers!

Sorry for that, we just wanted to show a detailed overview of what it takes to replace the handle. Even though it's a bit if work, it's a lot cheaper than $1,000 for a new door panel. Cheers!
You would think they would have designed it better after more than a decade. It's obvious the handle was a poor design to begin with. At least if this one breaks again, you can simply unscrew it instead of having to drill out the plastic bits. Cheers!
Sorry to hear that Chris, it is a little time consuming but Mercedes wanting $1k for a new door panel is complete insanity. Hopefully the video helps motivate you to get it done for less than $30. Let us know how things go on your MBZ project. Cheers!
That's the best trick to try to remove the plastic pin holding the door handle. Thanks! I'm never buying another German car for as long as I live! So overly complicated for no reason & cheap flimsy plastic garbage. They sure aren't what they used to be & it's a dam shame!
Thanks for the comments, they have their moments for sure. We enjoy the driving experience you get from Euro cars. American, Korean and Japanese just don't offer that same level of refinement. And trust us, they have other repair issue items that are even worse than door handles. it really comes down to what you like and if the driving experience matter to you. Cheers!
Thanks for responding & your video was very helpful. I just wish they would have better build quality with the prices they charge! The handle shouldn't be flimsy plastic & the way to remove it should be simplified if they do want to make it so difficult even their own techs don't want to do the job they just tell you to get a whole door panel lol & you are right I do love my '06 x5 I haven't owned it long enough to know the headaches repairs will bring me along the way but it rides & drives great for now & good power for a 6cyl I was told the v8 was fun but less reliable! Looking forward to more of your videos as I attempt to keep these things on the road as long as I can
Thanks for the comments, sometimes they get it wrong with the design but we won't be driving anything else. Sure you can drive around in a Honda Accord but it's not even close to the driving experience you will get in a German car. Plus, it provides more great videos for the channel. 🙂 Cheers!
Thanks for the comments, it is a process to repair the handle but it should last another 10+ years. Getting a complete door panel would be an easier swap for sure. The only issue is the panel you are getting is also 10+ years old so the handle will soon be failing shortly after the swap. Unless you can find a clean wrecked garage kept car, chances ae it will be on it's way out as well. Good luck on your MBZ project, Cheers!
