I'm from Prienai myself, I remember when on Lithuania's "gossip-show" called "KK2" they called our city a simpleton village, but the craziest fact that spun around my head for a few years is how such famous people, from such a rich country could even THINK about coming to a random city in a random country. His Brother literally makes hundreds of millions now, Liangelo couldn't care less now for playing on random, low level European teams.
The arc of lavar ball pretty interesting. he pretty much turned out to be 100% right and has mostly faded into the background now that he's gotten his sons (well, two of them) to the promised land. Good on him.
Being a Lithuanian, I know Balls are tall, but so are Lithuanians generally, I know plenty of people, including women, who are 6'5 or taller, and I doubt they sleep in beds made for people 5 feet tall folk, I guess king size bed is a bit too heavy for these big shot cats to shoplift. But in fairness, Prienai is a town in the middle of nowhere, and Birštonas, the neighbour town is not even a town, more of the village, a resort village where I believe they do not even have bus routes since it is so small. It only has a store, spa centers and thats about it, entitled California kid who wants just fast food joints will hate it there for sure. I am not sure what they were expecting, where they thinking their idiot father is bringing them to Abu Dhabi or smth? Anyhow, in my opinion, BC Vytautas was just a laughing stock team for even doing this, if I remember correctly, they left Baltic Basketball league just so they could schedule some random friendlies for these Balls to play and for internet to broadcast, it was just a clown show by clowns for clowns, team gained online followers, but lost all credibility as a sports franchise.
The most unbelievable thing that happened to me was that an American UA-cam channel called Nation Prep Stars reached out to me on LinkedIn and asked me to film all the home games of Prienai because of the Ball family. I jumped at the opportunity, captured the matches, and even managed to interview members of LaVar's crew. It was a surreal experience.
BC Vytautas lost all credibility as a team that year. They were probably going bankrupt, but If I remember correctly, they quit BBL completely, just so they would schedule exhibition games for Balls and Internet broadcasts, it was a clown show. Balls obviously were just entitled idiots, but I can't image how other players from that team felt. It is low level gig, being a LKL bottomfeeder, but you are still professional and now you see your team literally quitting professional leagues just so they would take part in reality show basically... It was an embarrassment on all fronts.
I almost forgot all the buzz about these two :D Never knew they were living in Prienai, no wonder their experience was not good, there is nothing to do there, specially during winter time
Had the chance to talk with the locals, some years back about how their experience was with the ball brothers. Sad to say its mostly all negative, they didint respect the local culture, would sleep in the locker room during practise, not show up on purpose and ignore everyone. 😄
