hey Swayle, if you're interested Doom 3 is a decent horror game that I'd recommend. It doesn't have many jumpscares, but it's absolutely nerve racking.

Couple of things One (you probably already know) when you hear a cave sound on the surface you are near a cave Second whenever an animal looks at you when you are near it is normal! Lastly whenever, I'm assuming, Dynamic Surroundings or anything like that adds crickets, definitely freak out when they stop making sound, irl it means there is danger and I think it's the same for that Hope you find these helpful!
