I have to add my thanks for creating and sharing this beautiful video. I was fortunate to grow up in the Midwest and see these gorgeous butterflies every year. To think that a single, fragile Monarch flies 2,000 miles- by itself, not as a member of a huge flock, the way some birds do... I am in awe.
I once found an unusually large tomato worm when I was about 10 years old. Being the curious little girl I was, I put it in a plastic jar and made a little habitat, even a little stick for it to make a cocoon on when it was ready! That night, it was busy "shooting" silk around the jar and in the stick. I watched it for hours as it formed its cocoon. It stayed in the cocoon for so long, my mom tried to throw it away because she thought it was dead (and stinky!) I didn't let her. After a few weeks, it emerged from the cocoon and hung upside down from the top to dry. 2-3 days later, its wings were dry and it was time to release him. But something was terribly wrong with my beautiful Polyphemus Moth: it's abdomen was too large! It was so large and heavy that when we attempted to release him, he couldn't get in the air. I decided he couldn't survive in the wild. So my mom gave me a laundry hamper and a cotton ball with sugary water and some nectar. It survived for about a week and eventually died. I wish he could have just flown away and lived longer than he had, but I enjoyed my time with him and it was worth everything. Even though some may think he was just a bug, I loved him.
C'mon, she was just a little girl :c
The little guy probably lived longer with you he wasn't meant to be in the wild
Actually, female Polyphemus Moths (which indeed have an enormous abdomen) refuse to fly until a male finds them (using the females’ secreted pheromones) and mates with them. Just letting you know for future reference 😉
soooooo....u killed it
The jar effected it greatly. That's why.
This is why I love nature.
I was about to say myself... Nature is simply amazing.
I think nature is beautiful myself, but nature is disappearing, so we gotta help nature 🦋🐛🌳🌲🌵🌴🌱🌿☘️🍀🎍🎋🍃🍂🍁🍄🌾💐🌷🌹🥀🌺🌸🌼🌻🕸
If there one thing that the butterfly has taught me is,that eating a lot, will help you be beautiful
U r a foodie at heart😀
Don't try to find excuses to eat more.
Um no it will make u fat
Hi difficult Togo tm "9/ 1bfs
Eat more sald chubs.
I like how it knows how to fly instinctively, even though all of it's life it's been landbound.
*****
It is pretty amazing, tantamount to a baby's first breath.
Very true. It was made to fly I guess.
Nin Jasmine Not immediately. It practices how to fly for hours. If you see a butterfly flap it's wings close to the chrysalis, don't force it to fly.
It is Allah who caused it to be like this! :)
Mission Jannah fuck off it’s hundreds if not thousands of years of evolution
I wonder if a butterfly emerges and is like "omg I'm fabulouzzzz!"

And I'm outchea watching this 11 years later. 2019 anyone?

WHY DO I LIKE THIS SHIT SOO MUCH..its really amazing a tiny worm turns into a butterfly >>; biology is awesome...so much to learn in this universe who knows whats out there Dx
I agree
I want to know if they can damage the butterfly weed plant. Mine seams to be overloaded with the caterpillars?
ernest finch They can, but Milkweed plants have their defenses against insects. Some milkweeds have Toxic substances stored in latex and store them in plant tubes called laticifers, or dissolved in waxes on the surface.
When a herbivore/insect chews part of the plant these toxins are released.
But insects can also inactivate the plants defense system by cutting the laticifers first, there is an ongoing arms race between insects and plants. In your case maybe the caterpillers are "winning".
We have raised monarchs two of the last three years. All we do is go out and look for the little caterpillars, put them in a box, feed them fresh milk weed every day. And wait. It is an AMAZING process! The real life colors are totally awsome.
One of the years we raised over 90 butterflies. It is a good experience for children.
Thank you for sharing the videos!
I found a monarch pupa today and never saw one before. The gold on the outside was beautiful. It was like natures greatest Christmas ornament and gift this year. Cant wait to see it hatch.
If my teacher showed me this video when I was still at my elementary school, I would be really REALLY excited. Damn it, they're so beautiful. From a monster-looking caterpillar into beautifully shaped butterfly
When I was in second grade, my teacher had three Monarch caterpillars in the classroom, so as time went on, the class could watch in real time as the caterpillars became pupas, and then butterflies. It was one of those things that just stuck with me.
Adding this to the list for school in the morning. Can't wait to see the awe in my daughters face. :) Now to decide if we will do it before or after doing leaf rubs with crayons and painting caterpillars with our toes!
That was breathtaking. Do Caitlyn Jenner next!
I didn't expect this comment and i lost my shit.
korlu01 lmao
This is gold.
No your breathtaking!
Lmaoooo
I used to raise them, from egg to butterfly. A truly amazing experience. It will make you believe in magic. Thank you.
Francis Campagna I mean. How do you raise them.
Francis Campagna Since when have you raised them? How many and where did you find them?
Amen to that sis! God created such beautiful things and people don't seem to have appreciation to the wonders of this world.
Yeah, like cancer.
God is good!
Liquid is pumped into its wings to give enough strength to fly!!! I am in complete awe❤️❤️

Wow, love this video, will use it on my website to show my ladies how caterpillars transform into butterflies. We use the butterfly as an inspiration in our ministry of how beauty is transformed from the inside out.
This is Incredible♥️...Nature is really wonderful..Thanks to almighty
I agree!
"One day I will be a beautiful butterfly, and then everything will be better."
Abbie Louise Not true. The caterpillar dies so basically, two alive thing used the same body until one shed its skin, showing the brain, nerves, etc. and died leaving only the much pretty one using the body.
So are you saying that the change from caterpillar to butterfly is essentially a natural and weirder form of plastic surgery?
Oh Lol 😂,
Are u Mad 😡 Do u know .
That A butter Fly Can Live Only For 14 Days
Lol chill guys, she wrote a quote from the Pixar movies A Bug’s Life. 😂 Just hit a thumb up for her comment
Butterflies are so beautiful. I love them so much, such magnificent creatures. So lovely and wonderful, I'm getting a butterfly tattoo next week
Bad idea
the chrysalis is so creepy
myjeje Lol I had the tattoo done. The tattoo is pretty much the symbol in my avatar with butterfly wings on it.

Thank you for this video. My son(in first grade) is in the insects section in his science book so I showed him your video to go along with it. We really enjoyed it and the quality so thank you from both of us.
A great teaching tool. What a nice way to introduce the theme of Spring.
Doomed to forever repeat the cycle of egg to worm to butterfly. Thanks a lot god.
What the fuck. Nature is amazing. Imagine us shedding our skin and having a weird shell under neath that our true body forms in then we break out of that shell with completely different shaped legs but we automatically know how to walk with the new legs. Then we also suddenly have wings that grow and we also just automatically know how to move them???? and then fly????? what even is life
tyla z LOL. Maybe that's what shoulder blades are REALLY for. Did you know that the pupa produces enzymes that digest the caterpillar into a primordial soup, which is then used to build the butterfly ? Did you know that humans have inactive enzymes whose purpose is unknown. I was going to end with " food for thought " lol, but maybe that's not appropriate.
A couple of butterfly's be flying around my house, front and back. I feel they are good luck for some reason... Yea. That what brought me here, awesome video
Excellent
i mean.. no wrds to describe the fantastic efforts. Thanq soo very much fr enabling the exposure n understanding the concept of metamorphosis in such an excellent manner
Nice video of beautiful creation.
The huge eyes of the larve are adorable
they remind me of the close up footage of Wormy from Spongebob 🤣

Wow i love this. Really nice.
This realistic Pokemon evolution is truly magnificent.
I shed a tear.. So beautiful!
This is an amazing video! The music was perfect. I'll be showing it to my Pre-Kindergarten class and I already know that they will be mesmerized by it. Thank you for posting such a wonderful video for us to use for free! I hope you continue to make other science videos that are so accessible to the very young learner.
This is wonderful. I'm writing a children's book about the metamorphosis of the Monarch. I'm finding all of the science so fascinating. It has been so helpful. I really appreciate your posting this.
So awesome seeing them emerge at 3:09
Thank you for posting!....very educational for my children!
This literally brought tears to my eyes 😢 such a beautiful video...... How can anyone watch this and not believe in the glory and wonder of God?
@@dexter.production I will keep you in my prayers my brother. The living God definitely does exist. His son Jesus died on the cross to atone for our sins. He loves you and believes in you even though you don't believe in Him. Be blessed my brother. Take care.
@@dexter.production ......."but if you were smart enough"........ Just so you know, saying that to someone is offensive 100% of the time😁 But it is not a problem. I am not here to argue, debate, or insult anyone. You seem like you are firmly set on how you feel, and I am iron clad and unshakeable in my faith in God. But just so you know, I do not consider myself a religious person. I am person of faith. I am sure you are a smart person. And when the day comes that you truly understand the difference between "Religion" and faith, I think your eyes will be opened to something truly wonderful. As always, Be Blessed, take care, and I will be praying for you.
If you really think about it.. The Caterpillar is the only insect to truly evolve. From a crawler to a flyer! It's amazing Gods creation

What a wonderful miracle.

awesome !!! thank you so much for such a wonderful video....my kids loved it and my 5yr old daughter could understand the life cycle of a butterfly without much explanation....
I recently found some black swallowtail caterpillars on my parsley. I had never seen them before and thought they were pests. Fortunately I looked it up and saved most of them! They can have the parsley, I'm even getting them some more. I saw your video and just had to comment. We can learn a lot from them. Perhaps if we were more patient and let our own individual "metamorphosis" occur we will learn to fly! Absolutely beautiful video. Namaste
Truly amazing
Oh the beauty and wonder that is life!
The glory and wonder is beyond comprehension.
It really is!
A cute catterpillar to a amazing butterfly!

No, there's no such thing as a god.
Johan Gustafsson If you say so :)
If god is so great why has he allowed starving children to die or children to be born with congenital defects and terminal illness?
Thank you for your video.
My garden being located in the so-called Monarch butterfly corridor, it is visited by a big number of M.B. every year. They especially like two Butterfly trees I keep for them in the garden; but at the end of the season, I usually trim the overgrown B. trees, so I don't know if I'm doing something against the M.B. reproduction... It was interesting to find here that the M.B. puts its eggs on the outer side of the leaves... I thought the eggs were deposited in the flowers, but no... What could I do to make the M.B. reproduction in my garden more efficient, or at least, how could I create more favorable conditions? I usually don't use any chemicals in my garden, so its ecosystem is very healthy...
One thing for sure: plant milkweed. Monarchs need the milkweed plant to survive. Bless you for caring about them.
@@debrapeasley2606 Thanks for your suggestion. 💚💐
@@bristonknight9315 I hope your milkweed plants thrive and your Monarch visitors love it!
Great job telling and showing the complete cycle!
Beautiful! Excellent work! Thank you for sharing it.
this video mades me cry because it's beautyful god is very amazing
its gods lovely creation
***** Caterpillar dissolves itself in the chrysalis and turns to liquid mush, digesting itself, just like it commits suicide. How is that a survival of the fittest??
Cool. My first 3 Monarchs just emerged! Only 21 more to go!
The video is so informative for everybody especially for children.
Great video, but i couldnt focus with the "confirmation of the mermaid-baby birth" right next to the vid..

Amazing! Thanks for the video.
wow! what a creation of god
So cool
Amazing
Dexter there just people who believes in a god and some don’t your just gona have to respect others beliefs even if it annoys you.
@@edwarddon9711 I believe he expressed his opinion that there isnt a god the same way she expressed hers that there is.
I look below and see arguments and not respect for different beliefs. I think we should be destroyed. Somehow humans manage to kill the beauty inside of this mystery for me. They take the joy from me. Chew it up. Spit it out, and step on it... right after I think to myself. Maybe the initial force behind this beauty actually had a purpose for this gorgeous thing that has come to be.. It's a blessing to be one of these amazing creatures.. But the people around me. I'd rather be nothing at all than be one of you. I'd rather be nothing than contribute to destroying this beautiful place, and spreading the word of truth about life when the fact is I know no truth about anything.. and neither do you..
Completely 100000% agree with you. Humans are vultures and I honestly believe we should all be killed off and leave this beautiful planet and its creatures in peace.
Thank you.. It means a lot to me that another feels the same that I do. You believing that may seem dark to most, But to me it means you have a great heart that should be treasured forever.
Thank you also, I normally don't voice my opinion on this matter because people think I'm 'heartless'. It's humans themselves that are heartless because I know for a fact that in the the future, this planet will be lifeless because of humans thinking that this beautiful world belongs to them. I hope you have a great day/life. Sam Mahon
OfficialMuffiin Your not heartless. They are not you so they don''t understand you so they are going to make shitty dumbass assumptions.. :) and thank you very much I hope so too because sometimes it seems pretty damn hopeless.. I hope you have a great day/life to. :)
Master Markus Because it's incredibly easy to get tired of typical human bullshit 'markus', everyday humans make unbelievably idiotic choices killing us all with a smile on their faces. The solution is known but the majority of dipshits will never adhere to it. Unless you have a way to make everyone change put dirt in your mouth and be quiet, you're annoying.
Finally, after all those infinite years...

Totally agree. This is a super video which has stood the test of time. What stands out to me is the total number of transformations (when you count the instar) over such a short live span. Remarkable.
