    Community College changed my life for the absolute better. I earned 3 associate degrees, a certificate and almost 100 credits. I transferred to a private university and am finishing up a bachelor degree. Simply put, as a community college graduate, I DOMINATE the workplace, and yes, I've competed with people with bachelor and master degrees with no issues lol. A lot of people from big colleges have this idea that they are "better" lol, but it takes more than a degree. You need WORK experience in addition to earning a degree. A degree is almost worthless if you have never held a job for at least 6 months or more. Community College is COLLEGE, and it can be a great experience if you make it that way. An associate degree is a degree lol........... It's all in the resume :) Go to community college and work a full or part time job to build your resume, then transfer to a 4 year school for the bachelors if you want to. Who cares what people think? LOL Shine on them.

    im 21 and still in high school. im going to graduate this summer and im going to community college this fall, but im finding so hard to cope with people judgement to where i going or where i got accepted. it so hard for me and it stress me out because i feel like im not good enough for anything. and the high school i go to is small so they expect us to go to big university. helpppp

      Yeah, it is so tough to not feel bad when people judge you! The older I get the more I have to realize how it only matters what you think about yourself. I know that sounds cliche, but it's totally true. "Comparison is the thief of joy." People learn at different paces and go to school at different ages, and guess what? That's totally okay! You are going to school, that's the important part. Just keep pushing along even through the hard parts. It will be great. You are good enough. In fact, you are MORE than enough.

    I think it's kinda funny how most of the people who judge me for going to a community college are the ones who never even went to college. Thank you for the uplifting video. Sometimes I get disappointed in myself for going to a community college bit I just have to remind myself that I'm at least taking the next step to my future rather than not going to college at all

    Everyone please think about CC before making a decision on where you go to school! In the long run, if you choose to go for a Bachelors degree, you will have saved so much money! The low cost of CC is just one of the pros, among others. Please consider CC and transferring to a university.

    • @laurieepstein453

      Not only do they not matter going into community college, but if you then get good grades at Community college, and then transfer to a 4 year school, then that 4 year school wont look at your high school grades or SAT scores either! Just your grades from Community College.
      (This might not be true for ALL 4 year schools, but definitely a lot of the schools that I looked into)

    Yea, I got accepted to a few Universities but I’m going to community college because MONEY and ever since I’ve made it knew it’s like suddenly I’m “not serious about my future”... I genuinely don’t understand the correlation

  • @lesliemartinez3883

    In my point of view the advantages of community college is that they dont pressures the students and they are more discipline than the universities .Im going to el Centro college and i mean everyone is friendly is nice and i think that community colleges are more discipline, organized and teachers are easy to ask them questions, etc. So i mean dont feel sad or mad if ur going to a community college...cuz it dont matter where u come from...wat matters is your career and ur job.

    • @lesliemartinez3883
      @lesliemartinez3883 7 років тому

      And I mean the law of the universe is Karma..so if those people judge u in a negative way...karma will get them back just like a mirror..and Im proud of u that you are going to a college...my classmates didnt got accepted cuz either their gpa and the test scores. So feel proud that you got accepted and still continuing your education! 👍😇

      @Laz3rCat95 2 роки тому

      @@lesliemartinez3883 One of the great things about community college is you're not required to take any college entrance exam like an SAT or to have a great high school GPA to be accepted. Generally all that's required is a high school diploma or GED, and many community colleges offer adult education programs to help people earn GEDs as well.

    My cc actually has a dual enrollment for university of La Vern CA and with a reduced tuition (50% off not including school grants) my cc also has transfer spots for other top California colleges, it’s honestly best to get your AA in community college and be debt free when you go for your bachelors the next two years.

    I would have gotten his contact info. That way when I'm successful, I can contact him and invite him to lunch. But I'm just petty lol.
    I know someone who transferred to *Harvard* from my CC. I just got two scholarships to two different private universities and before I go, I want to buy CC merch just so I can point to it like "Yup. I did that. Look at me now!"
    Luckily I haven't personally met too many rude people but I have met a few (family mostly). They usually see it as smart since I'm saving money. I'll also go to a CC for summer classes to save even more money! Because when I'm a Psychiatrist? Those ignorant people who I *have* met? They'll eat every letter of their words.

    I just got accepted to UC Davis and UC Santa Barbara coming from community college. I do know and have faced the negative stigma behind it, and since my brother got into UC berkeley and my sister to UC davis, both straight out of high school, I am seen as the failure child for not getting into a 'real' college !! until now

    I went to a CC for 2 years on a full scholarship (I graduated Valedictorian of my small highschool class). I then transferred to my large state university and received a transfer scholarship.
    I wasn’t ready to go off to a large university at 18yrs old.
    At the end of the day you get a BA or BS with the university name on it...no different than if you went as a freshman or transfer. Btw...on university graduation day I was 1 of maybe half-dozen that graduated with honors out of hundreds in our university’s college (within the university...university of ...college of communications).
    Congratulations on transferring to Berkeley!

      do your community college classes get calculated into your transfer university or are they two separate GPAs?

    Dude, I'm from Poland where a ton of colleges are poor, teachers don't update their notes for 30 years, education ends up useless. My high school was a moldy soviet bunker, you could smell it stink with mold several meters away from the building. I can't imagine community colleges in usa being worse than that... therefore there is no problem.

    Generally the GE classes are transferrable. Vocational classes are non-transferrable. Actually, the problem is, at least in california, it is very hard to get classes in community college. Based on your seniority you are given a time after which you can register for classes. When you try to register for classes, most of the GE classes are already full. So the key to community college is to find out how hard is it to get classes.

    • @kimikochelsea
      @kimikochelsea  7 років тому +1

      Fortunately at my community college (in CA) I didn't ever have any issues taking any GE classes. The reason being the GE classes at my cc were generally larger(because so many people have to take them) and they offered a few different sections. Sometimes I would have to add myself to the waitlist or maybe if it was a super small, specific class (for my major) I would have to wait a semester, but I didn't really have an issue. I had more than enough time to finish my requirements before I transferred to UC Berkeley. I also took a few classes at other CC's in CA and didn't run into that issue. I think it depends on your major, I've always found those requirements to be more specific and therefore harder to get into. I also think it matters how high or low you place on the placement exams. But of course, everyone's community college experience is different depending on where you go. I just happened to be really fortunate! :)

    • @brittslife1420
      @brittslife1420 5 років тому

      You just need to submit all your proper paperwork early to get priority registration whether you are a freshman or returning student. I applied late and still got the classes I wanted even though many were full.

    Thanks for this video! I didn't have a lot of goals for myself during high school and just recently decided on what I want to do and where I want to be in the future. I feel like community college has given me a second chance that I otherwise wouldn't have gotten and am super blessed to even receive education. I have felt embarrassed telling others that I'm going to a community college but I want to try and have a more positive outlook and realize that plans don't always go according to plan! I wish more people talked about this and saw things the way you do

    Awesome video! As a current high school senior going on to graduation, I have decided to go to my local community college. As for me, maturity does not play much of a role when it comes to deciding on your institution of choice or any other plans after high school. For me it is all about what you already have and what you will need in the years to come. I am making the choice to go to my local community college because it is within arms reach and there are some things that community college offers that a 4 year university does not offer. So I believe going to a community college would really help. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. ♥️

    I needed this video so much! This just sums up what I've been going through my first year of community college. It's nice to hear someone else talk about this. I've had a lot of old high school friends look down on me for attending a cc. The perception that you must be stupid and have become the "loser of a friend group" really affected me. Watching this has really recharged me to go into the next semester a lot stronger. Thanks so much!
