Mini-Truck (SE08 EP4) Mini broke down. Guess the issue? Fuel? Water in fuel? Timing belt? Coil?

  • Mini started losing power on and off, then just stalled like no gas, had to call Jeffro to bring some gas, checked for water in gas, checked we had enough fuel, checked ignition... See if you know right off what the issue was. NO CHEATING

Im only 4:53 second in but ima guess you left that new jet/ enrichment thing open!? Gonna finish watching now. Ill edit comment. I was wrong. Rotor it was. Strange! Also never had that happen to me. But ill tell ya whay if it is made in china its crap!!
Just did a cam chain in my kx250f and i figures whats the point of a 30$ gasket so i got a caltric 10$ stator gasket and it would leak. So i reused the old one and its fine! Chinese cant even make a good gasket. Its a shame

I'm not sure I think that rotor was OEM, when I ordered the cap I assumed it came with the rotor because I looked at so many different ones online ended up just the cap. Now I do believe like I said in a video one of them should have a spring on it to contact the other and neither one does so I ordered a cap and rotor so let's see. Yes eBay again.... But at least I'll have something on there and I can order an OEM part and wait a month or whatever

yes but it was a old points system and i the condenser came loose and hit it . and one time the cap moved just a little and it caught and hit. maybe your cap was loose and moved. but i am 3 days older than dirt so i have seen a lot. i mean Adam was made from the last load of dirt i hauled in for God to build the earth. with my horse and chariot .

@@MotoCheez it looked tight on video. but videos sometimes aren't what they seem to show. so check the shaft and see if it moves in or out. but it also just might have been a bad button.

Thought for sure it was going to be a fuel issue. If I had a nickel for every time I had to replace my cap (usually from a crack in the side from over tightening) by the side of the road in my 1977 Datsun B210 I'd have about a dollar. Never did have to replace the rotor though - I only replaced that with wires and plugs.

  • @Liberty4Ever

Well, that was weird. I'm gonna use genuine Daihatsu parts, and keep the old parts as spares!
When I was in college, the vacuum advance on my 1972 SuperBeetle crapped out while my friends and I were going camping. I used a small round head machine screw as the bearing under the vacuum advance plate. I drove it like that for another 60,000 miles and then gave the car to my younger brother. He removed the women's bowling trophy that I had installed as a hood ornament.
Another time, my SuperBeetle died on the way to go camping and the girl I was camping with diagnosed the clogged fuel filter about two seconds after I did. I probably should have married that girl!

my jag just had this exact thing happen a month ago!!! Almost led to the fabled "Marelli Meltdown". 6 cylinders were dumping fresh fuel right into the molten catalytic converter while cruising. The ignition was cutting out intermittently just like your Mini so I was trying to limp it home, I didn't think it was loss of spark because I assumed since the tachometer was working my coils were good, but didn't stop to think it was the ROTOR! since the rotor was broken in half inside the distributor, half the cylinders still got spark, I simply unplugged the fuel injectors going to the affected bank of cylinders and slowly mopped on home to swap out the part the next day.

Wow, I'd never have checked the distributer, sounded like fuel starvation all day long, good find and a better roadside repair! Old mini truck proverb say, to fix old-school, first you must think old-school!
I had my Suzuki carry cut out with a half tank of fuel, left me stranded on the side of the road, turned out to be a vacuum operated fuel tank vent, the vac line supplying it had split, and with no venting I was running lean to starvation. The big clue was the diff lock wouldn't work (low vac) and the other massive clue was when opened the tank, there was a massive pull of air into the tank.
Thanks for the great content on these mighty machines 👍
