  • The gospel lectionary reading for Year B is the second part of John 10 on the theme of Jesus as the Good Shepherd, following on from the first part explored in Year A.
This passage needs to be read carefully in the context of this section of the gospel-but also in its first century context, and attending to the typically Johannine use of metaphorical language.
Come and join us as we explore all the issues in reading, understanding, and preaching on this passage.
Revd James Blandford-Baker is vicar of Histon and Impington, two villages just north of Cambridge. Revd Dr Ian Paul is Associate Minister of St Nic's, Nottingham, and writes the widely-read blog www.psephizo.com. Full written commentary behind the discussion can be found on the blog each week.

« I have other sheep that are not of this sheepfold »
Over the years I have entertained the thought that this might be an « extraterrestrial » hint from the Son of God that the world is bigger than the particular grain of sand on the seashore of the universe of which we are familiar and on which we live. As the church fathers and philosophers were perfectly aware, there is so much beyond our understanding, which is not to say that all possibilities are limited by our understanding.

I have found Bailey and am looking at "Jesus Through Middle-Eastern Eyes" - there's a section there that focuses on Jesus / Women; I am serving in a half complementarian (east/south) half egalitarian denomination (west/midwest) and will be in a room with some complementarian men soon; I'm arming for the potential controversy. I have resources, but am always on the hunt for more / better resources. I know you're following the lectionary but if you have any resources in your libraries that would be most excellently on that point, I'd be interested in reviewing them. Thank you as always .... Pr. D.
