@@EverlastMsg Watching his video I don't detect any obvious cheating (like repeated save state usage) although his overall movement does not appear particularly skilled. OK, I know this is tool-assisted, but I need to ask. Is it possible for a human with no tool-assist to No Miss the entirety of Dodonpachi? I know Jaimers91 has No Missed Hibachi with only one bomb, but that still raises the question...

nice gameplay and i appreciate the extensive explanation in the description, but can you specify this is tool assisted in the title? you can already see some of the confusion in the comments
I can understand you not trying to get the long chains, because the game is hard enough already, but you should at least try to collect the hidden bees. Hit them with the front of your laser beam and then you can pick them up. There's 13 in each stage and their points value increases with each one. Also you should keep using the laser continuously on the bosses to keep your hit counter up.
Why this game looks better than ressurection on my switch? Music goes hard and bulletpattern is fun as hell. Level desig, graphic style, explosions is amazing. They need to realese this game official. Ressurection is not a bad game but this game is WOW and so much older lol.
I remember when I was younger thinking Raiden was really difficult and very intense and needed skill. Then my older cousin threw me on DoDonPachi… my sweaty little kid brain was revvving 9001 RPM lol
I love these games but I suck at them. The only way I make through them is by constant save states. That said, I don't really spend alot of time on them but even if I did I still don't see how it would be possible to beat it. How can someone memorize the exact movements when the screen is completely filled with bullets and beams? Are they just gifted? Are they overdosing on adderall or something? So many unanswered questions 😵
You don't memorise the exact patterns of bullets; you need to adapt. Each play through is a bit different. But it really makes a difference to take out certain enemies in the right order. And careful timing of things like killing the bigger spaceships which destroy all the bullets on-screen when they explode. There are general strategies you can use too; for example when there are enemies that all fire directly at you, if you keep moving slowly, just nudging along, and never double back, they won't hit you because the bullets are all heading towards where you used to be. Fly all over the screen and their bullets go everywhere. Stay still, concentrate their fire in one place, then move. It's useful to move up the screen to draw fire, then pull back to open up a space to move through. I think it helps to sit a little further up the screen so you have some space to pull back. Also nothing shoots at you from off the screen; sometimes it helps to keep gun banks off the screen for a while deliberately to stop them from shooting at you. And enemies are kind enough to not shoot at you point blank either; you should exploit this as well. If you don't keep on top of things the game will punish you as there will be way more bullets and more chaos to deal with, but you can reduce this with smart tactical play. Also remember if you die and you still had unused bombs, you messed up. Dodonpachi rewards you heavily for not using your bombs but not if you die.
So…do you have to constantly tap tap tap tap tap the button? This isn’t like other Cave shooters where you can easily switch between the Laser and the Shot, it’s one or the other, right? Unless you want to tap tap tap tap but who the hell wants to do that?
Is the slowdown genuinely an effect of the coding and asset management getting beat up on the hardware, or is it simulated to slow down as it reaches an on-screen object limit?
@@gabrielparra9250 I don't think it's intentional. There are Cave games where its intentional, and you don't see the game suddenly speeding up with the screen still filled with bullets. There are moments here when the game is slow, the player stops shooting, the game speeds up to the normal speed, he goes back to shooting, the game slows down again. If this is intentional, it's really badly done. Don't forget having a shitload of bullets it's not just about drawing a lot of pixels, but having collision tests for all of them, calculating their movement, updating screen position, etc. This arcade board has just a M68000 at 16mhz to do all those calculations. It's barely the double of a Mega-Drive processor power and there is a LOT of stuff going on at the same time on this game.
+Sora Udagawa “Paragone” I searched in my emulator's configuration, and I found and option named: emulated speed. That option was in 150 pct instead of 100, that's why the game was was that fast xD. At least its also fun to play in 150 pct XDD
I see some pink bullets fly through the ship but not hit it. Is this a cheat or a form of clipping? If any of those pink bullets so much as brushes on my ship, it blows me up. So what gives?
There's roughly 1 pixel around the cockpit that registers collisions - as long as bullets don't hit that then you're ok. Bullets colliding with the ship body have no impact.
Honestly, I do not believe in this gameplay. I have already seen and reviewed this video, and I think it is unlikely that any humans will be able to play this way. I only believe if I show the person playing, otherwise it's a trick.
@evmotorcycle Even though the hitbox is like 2 or 3 pixels wide, i've paused the video on Stage 2 boss with the ship completely under a bullet. Cheat mode is quite obvious here indeed.
No cheats were used - anything you see in the video is due to the tolerances the game allows. The actual collision detection points are roughly a couple of pixels around the ship's cockpit and the the epicenter of enemy projectiles - it's quite possible for a bullet to cover the ship, but if the relevant pixels don't touch then no collision is registered. I'm pretty sure I still have the original state files for the recording, so if you're that desperate to see whether cheats were used then I can upload them.
@@AL82RetrogamingLongplays You beat Hibachi without even loosing a life. Even best japanese players don't. Take a look at 55:03 with 0.25x speed. And dare to tell you didn't used cheats.
