hold it now, hold it now, ,hold it now.....hit it!!
The reverse bass mixed with this one of a kind beat is so iconic that to my musical knowledge I don't think it's ever been tried to be duplicated.
Back then it was really difficult to do. You had to actually run the tape backwards. You also had to physically cut and splice tape. Now you can just click a button and a program will reverse it instantly
So glad you said that about MCA’s voice. Easily One of the all time best voices in hip hop.
No doubt.
Chuck D is at the top of that list for me.
@@sokay2laugh512 I would agree….
Am I the only one that had it hit me when he talked about Adam's voice in the present tense?
I got to see them in 1992 during their Check Your Head tour. Small club-type venue. They started with, "Now...." and tossed the mic into the crowd. It was passed around with everyone knowing the lyrics. We loved it, the band loved it. And now I'm a white, gray haired, middle-aged minister. I still know the words. RIP MCA.
still know every word. This is my favorite Beasties song!
Me too)
💯 When I listen to this song my neighbors do, too!
These guys are only a few years older than I am so this is what I was listening to in middle school! 35 years later, and they're still my go-to jam when I need to feel myself, ykwim!
The best thing about the Beasties is that they were in it for the right reasons, and they actually moved hip hop forward not just in terms of overall listeners, but what they were doing musically in the studio was so innovative. This beat is a great example of it, MCA was a wild scientist creating this backwards 808.
Although, "Fight for your right" was the MTV hit, in 1986 in my rural farmland central PA school, you were not cool, unless you could recite this song, word for word. SHE's CRAFTY and the NEW STYLE were other greats on this album.
‘88 WNY grad. The 2 songs that were never released as singles that everyone knew the lyrics to were this and Def Leppard’s “Too Late for Love”.
Class of & ' 89 from Clearfield, PA.
I feel Sir Mix A Lot (Posse on Broadway) with this one 😎😎
'the move' is crazy for back and forths
I so appreciate that you cop to hearing it before. I've got a lot of music I've heard but not responded to... Good stuff. :D
I bought this album when I was 18 back in 1986. The beginning of hip hop was so exciting. There are rappers who have taken this genre to another level in the last 40 years, and some that just suck.
Legendary track perfectly executed.
My favorite BB song! Album was released 10 days prior to my 13th birthday, my neighbors and I still listen to it on regular basis!
Saying that you heard it but haven't paid attention to it makes perfect sense.
Dope beat, storytelling on par with Slick Rick, and dope delivery especially when you have all 3 of them doing their own parts in the story = instant classic. This track and basically the whole of The Great Adventures of Slick Rick really gave me an appreciation for storytelling. Tracks like this and Love's Gonna Getcha will be on my playlist forever because of the journey they take you on. That ish takes real talent and not everyone has that.
Classic
This track was shear genius . Everything is just flawless , so smoothly put together . The back and forth just flows .
I’m with you , the story telling is just awesome .
They came along doing things no one had ever done , so damn good . I loved them as a kid and still do now
You can do songs from any era and should. Legends! #gratitude that these guys existed and I saw them live. Legends!
From beastie boys Shake your rump or sure shot or hey ladies
Check out Sound of Science from Paul's Boutique- lots of fun ...bar-skipping? They finish each others lines.
Triple Trouble is fun, too. Mike D had one of my fave Beasties bars - "I like to party, not drink Bacardi cuz I'm not looking to throw up on nobody." They are just straight FUN.
High Plains Drifter by them is kinda like Paul Revere 2.0, has the story telling with a dope beat…
Good tune!! And Looking Down the Barrel of a Gun!!
When this first came out we didn’t even know they were yt. This song is still in monthly rotation.
Car Thief is another epic story telling by TBB
Gotta do Pass the Mic and Shake Your Rump! Both 🔥 😎
License to I'll is well...ill. This one, fight for your right, no sleep til Brooklyn, girls, brass monkey etc
Remember it all started over a cold beer,🤔😂😂💪👍
Great reaction.
Other than the ones you mentioned, *"Shadrach"* is underrated and is such a great showcase for their interweaving style.👍
Beasties had it going especially in the 80's into the 90's \m/
Have you done any Rage Against the Machine? There's a fire track called CIA with Zach from that band, Krs1 and Last Emperor.
New here and digging your channel
Timeless
Love the video! Live version of sabotage will give you a new perspective on these guys!
Sabotage was on the album after Pauls Boutique yes??
the beat sounds like a heartbeat. Rest in peace MCA.
its the fucking Beasties
Just came across you at random. You seem like a good dude. Good luck with your cahannel.
I appreciate that!
❤I AM HERE FOR THE $😊❤…❤ALL PROFESSIONAL MUSICIANS AND SINGERS❤ AGREE AND UNDERSTAND THIS TRUTH❤😊❤😊❤😊❤.
GO PRO OR STAY HOME❤😊❤😊❤😊❤.
Just for S&G...they discovered LL Cool J.
This may be my favorite Mike D track after Sure Shit
🔥🤟👍
I backed out when you said you already heard it.
The beat❤
Mix Master Mike
This song slaps
This song reminds me a little bit of Wonderboy by tenacious D. Teaming up story of Jack Black and Kyle. A banger too.
RIP MCA 🖤
Pass the mic for the amazing transition
Beasties are the GOATS!
This song is like listening to a Quentin Tarantino movie.
albundy holding the wife's purse ... in the mall
I want to make a Red Dead Online video, that makes a music video to match the lyrics to this. I need 2 other people though holler.
I feel like Snoop took this beat for “Drop it like it’s hot”. Very similar.
...I grabbed two girlies and a beer that's cold.
Car Thief!
30 deep grimey and cee murda killed my favorite beastie boys beat in the remix called 'stain on me'.... if you react to that I'll be a loyal subscriber because it's my favorite song
Rip MCA
It's a little bit dated in 2023 but in 1986 every kid in school knew the words to this. Did not matter black, white, Puerto Rican, everyone knew this was dope. That's Rick Rubin on the cuts he has a real heavy hand when he scratches, MCA made the beat and Joe "Rev Run" Simons came up with the first line "Now here's a little story....." and then the 3 BB wrote the rest.
Straight facts . I graduated in 86’ . Beasties were in everyone’s car tape deck & turntable @ home ! I have them in my cd right now in my car . Coincidentally . Yes I have a CD player in my car . They are in my top five all time. . Then , now , always ..🌠✔️
Downvote for the dated statement. This shit is still dope as hell and timeless!!
Dated my *ss🙄 100x better than the trash out of mainstream mill today
The Beastie Boys were amazing, but I think the genius behind their music was their producer Rick Rubin. If you don’t know him, his story, and his work, check it out!
Putting too much stock into Rubin here, imo
This'll sound stupid... but listen to the song backward... The beat is still dope!
I HAVE NO CLUE WHY NOBODY IS REACTING TO, "GIRLS"... PLEASE DO IT!
I personally think people find it irritating, including myself. It’s also a bit degrading to “girls” so it certainly hasn’t aged well-especially considering MCA’s lyrics later in his career. Just MHO.
glorilla s beatmakers stole a little bit of the beat idea for lick ur sum...or called somethhing like that
Cult track bro.
