Sounds like you potentially could be. I also only water with rainwater or filtered water so that's another potential cause but more likely too much water. Again, I wait til it starts to get a bit floppy

Usually I see roots come out of the bottom but also she gets thirsty way more often than usual

I don't think that is maranta silverband. It looks like maranta cat moustache aka maranta NOID.
Its still one I'm not sure about ID on but looks the same as silverband when I Google it so who knows!
