@username.exenotfound2943 1. That all makes zero sense. These are important events in lore, and nothing about them makes them unsuitable for a show. 2. Shepard is only "the best" in this regard because his story is the most developed. If you aren't going to develop the story with a piece of ME media, then you're wasting your time. So Shepard is the least useful part of Mass Effect to cover - especially in case the show turns out bad (if it gets made), that way Shepard doesn't get tied to it like the Master Chief did for the Halo show.
Quit gatekeeping, gamers (especially stuck up ones like you) aren't the only ones who should be "allowed" to see Shepard's story, like seriously how does them telling Shepard's story hurt you so bad that you are so adamant that it shouldn't be put to screen. Don't like it don't watch it and play your videogames, it's not like the show is going to magically destroy everyone's copies of the 3 games.
@@Tballer_96 That's not the problem. The problem is that anyone who really cares about the show already knows the story, and not having Shepard isolates him from the show being bad. And there's also tons of opportunities for other, more interesting stories.
Thanks for the update. He is reassuring. But he is not the only player. We'll see. I'll watch it anyway. I hope it has some connection to the next game. I'm assuming it will have connections to existing stories. Like Paragon Lost. In Shepard's timeline.
@@dorottyapapp it is going to take way more than two years for the next Mass Effect if they are making it the same way as other games are being made and perhaps longer if it is made like Dragon Age. I would prefer they make a smaller game so we get it sooner. But I'm in a minority. In addition, I left a comment on channel "Mark Darrah on Games" (who was a BioWare director) on one of his videos talking about why AAA games take a long time to make and suggested I rather see more AA games if I get them more frequently. He responded with a successful AAA game makes more money than 10 AA games.
It is pretty doubtful that John Cena will be in Mass Effect, at least as a major role, He is spending the entire year of 2025 as a full time wrestler - as he announced his retirement.
One lesson I learned about the creators being involved with movies based on their works, it usually insures it won't be a trainwreck but it doesn't guarantee it will be epically good either, Fallout was fortunate but that isn't a guarantee for Mass Effect.
I think it is important that the lead writer is a fan of the source material. But it's not a guarantee of excellence. Still more hopeful now than I was before. John Cena would be fine to play a character among the ensemble. But I worry he's gunning to be Shepard which would be bad on multiple levels. I would also not want him to play James Vega, because for me that sets the TV series in the wrong time period. Give us stories from the 20 years that precede Shepard coming onto the scene. They can do 10 seasons and not cover 20 years. We won't have the skies being darkened by the Reapers, but from the games' lore there is reason to believe Sovereign had been active in the galaxy at least since the Rachni wars. So, Sovereign at least can make appearances from time to time in a pre-Shepard TV series. There could be an entire season devoted to Saren becoming a pawn of Sovereign.
That would fall into the Acolyte genre, wherein the whole plot depends upon everyone being killed or turned into amnesia so that the Big Bad can be completely unknown by everyone once they arrive in Mass Effect 1.
I cant think of a single character he should or could be playing. The only acceptable one would be an entirely new character. If he plays Shepard i wont be watching. I likely wont be anyway cos it will be trash
@@LuisManuelLealDias Sovereign featuring does not mean characters in the show knowing, or even seeing, Sovereign aside from those who are indoctrinated, and they do either die or are controlled by Sovereign to never reveal its existence or true nature. The Shepard saga should never be told on screen so I don't care about the audience learning the truth about Sovereign, but even that doesn't need to be explicit in the series.
It's best not to have high expectations. This way, one can't be too disappointed. A film or series should be about the story and characters, first not big names. That's how they can blow the budget fast.
Mass Effect has many, MANY different story choices and events that are completely different from each other. No two playthroughs are the same. This could go either very well or fail spectacularly
I respect that he claims to be a fan of sci-fi and that he professes love for the series, but he does not strike me as a true mass effect fan. The number of times he asks "you know what I mean?" Instead of actually saying something tangible does not help me build confidence in him. I really hope I'm wrong and that he delivers, but for now, I share all your reservations and remain "cautiously pessimistic", "you know what I mean?"
If you model the show after Firefly, but give it the polish and look of the current Star Trek show, you can't miss. Focus on the characters and their relationships, and have have the overarching story play out in the background.
I still think they should have offered this project to someone with much more experience with science-fiction, especially the kind that got very good user and critics ratings and were a sucess, so this also applies to the producers, cause one of them worked on the Borderlands movie, which flopped insanely hard. He can understand the difficulty of the assignment, plus it helps by playing the games themselves, but the question here is if he can actually deliver it while being faithful to the source material.
When journalists announced the writer for this show, they really shouldn't have lead with the "Fast and the Furious" angle, lol. After hearing him speak on his vision for the show though, I'm less worried about it. He gets it: if you can't nail the characters and make us care, then the show is already dead in the water.
Same here lady...same here. At least he played a whole thing and seams understand what is about and that is crucial. If I be him I will not touch the Shep story. It's too risky as that story with all variations are very well known worldwide and request canonizing things...bad idea I will say. They should focus on time pre-ME1 on pre-mass relay discovery-activation-first contact and war, so we may see less aged Hacket, Anderson, Ashlys father, Alek Ryder, Illusive Man (that may be interesting), even later near series end Normandy SR1 under Anderson command. Shep may show up as a side role in Captain rank or so but sure not as main character. That be a vary good choice. The TV series needs to show the beginning and establish the Lore so people who don't know what Mass Effect is may understand. I think that be less painful even if TV series fails accomplishing the task. Mas Effect universe is Star Track big and complex and not deserves less. Source material should be respected even if they want to try to pull this thing off. If they change it on direction of Marvel or so..... I'm not sure current filmmaking industry with they policies can pull out this properly. This requiring GOT level of financing and same quality acting skills. This is what I'm thinking. Good video, thanks Kala.
The ME3 ending broke my heart so deeply that I have 0 expectations for anything that follows. Somehow, I still love the Mass Effect universe like crazy.
He clearly gets it, and by putting ME in the same breath as Star Trek and Star Wars, he understands that he’s on sacred ground. Let’s just hope he has the courage of his convictions to stop studio interference.
I hope the excellent Mass Effect books\audiobooks by Karypshyn himself were also read as they helped flesh out the ME Universe - Mass Effect Revelation - Mass Effect Ascension - Mass Effect Retribution
I am indeed hesitant, nervous and feeling many other things. The mass effect universe is so huge. You know it’s not just one or two major species involved. How are they going to make is just as impactful as the games. How can they make a Shepherd so to speak and make it just as big. I’m very scared
I hope the main character is shepherd and his team and friends and lover since it’s about the threat of the reapers and all cuse if they gunna put a random main character idk if it will make sense while shapard is the main protagonist even a n7 soldier and hero of the galaxy
I said this before, and im saying it again, i think we should give the guy a chance. Artists shouldnt be judged solely by their work in one genre. Fast and furious movies are a different genre and are made for a different audience. If they cast John Cena, i hope he gets to use tactical cloak.
I hope his "relatable" isn't too direct to what's happening today, too trendy. The character relations have to be timeless, that's why Mass Effect characters or why BG3 characters work so well - and their problems are timeless human problems. But he sounds like he's passionate about doing it right. I feel like he is making it to be his big thing.
the benefit of hindsight of course is that the writers can make it seem it was all planned out and less of a deus ex machina when it comes to the crucible, just hint at in in mass effect 1 and 2 just as "project star dust" as we know was the death star
I feel a bit better about the show now after that interview and knowing that the writer actually cares about Mass Effect and getting it right. Also, him acknowledging that "yeah I wrote for F&F, but I do other stuff" made me feel good because he knows that's not what we're looking for. Having the Fallout team work on it is great too. I just really hope they don't go with a big name cast. Get some not as well known actors who actually care about more than a paycheck. Put more money into the CGI and set pieces, not just the cast
True, but the fact they said they want to do it right says a great deal about how careful they want to be with the lore. That gives me hope. They need to play the games. They need to read the lore. Take your time. just make the wait worth it.
Being fair, the "I've Got Family" thing was/is the legacy of the franchise. the writer of the 9th film cannot in anyway convince them to change that. he has to play it by their rules.
I'm sold! He has the same passion and energy that other creators who successfully adapted videogames have: Jeff Fowler and Pat Casey with the Sonic the Hedgehog cinematic universe, Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic with the Super Mario Bros Movie, and the many ones from projects like Detective Pikachu, Arcane, The Last of Us, Cyberpunk Edgerunners, Angry Birds, Warcraft, even older ones like Final Fantasy Advent Children, the CGI Resident Evil movies and the original Street Fighter 2 animated movie. You know what? Screw it! I want an adaptation of the original trilogy and I believe Cena can be a excellent Shepard like Mark Meer was!
yeah I said it else but intent is met with intent, and the interview does at least project he's going in with good faith at least. Like time will tell if it's good but maybe just maybe we'll not have another mass effect deception.
the real decision would be the squad since 4 members seems like the max without having bland characters but the issue with that is liara, garrus wrex tali leaves ashely and kaiden so do we sacrifice their characters or something? unless they are confident all 6 could be there and it would still be complelling and the characters will still be good
id have more confidence if it was made by HBO so long as they dont fumble it kind of in season 2 like house of the dragons(one of the writers did a runner which may explain why its different)
they will have to change its ending up since we dont need It to have a divisive at best ending assuming it ever reaches that point also make it so the reapers have a better justfication or none at all(you cant say synthetics would wipe out life as the gek and quarians just proved that theory false in the good ending)just make it so the crucible docks harbinger attempts to stop this personally the fails then the "perfect ending" and since the writers have hindsight they can forshadow things better like shepards fixed body capable of surviving long periods in space(would explain how he survives with the destruct ending) also actually show or imply kind of that the illusive man was either indoctrinated sometime in mass effect 2 time or sovereign used him as a fail safe in mass effect 1 so by mass effect 2 the reapers have already been manipulating from the scenes
Funny😂, but seriously, they can use literally ANY body builder with the least amount of paycheck to the job. but they better use CGI like they did in Halo TV series.
Like your comment of basically an unknown cast, GoT had some big names and it also killed off the big names and made some stars of what was left, so let Cena play an Anderson type of role and bring some new young(er) talent into the Series.
Yeah this one deserves some caution, one of the issues will be how to make the show feel like it belongs in the Mass Effect universe - it could easily descend into a generic action space shooter with bad CGI space battles and big John Cena flexing his muscles in a cut down space suit / muscle top slinging one-liners... Anyway it is way to early to speculate, as it appears the show is still waiting on approval - could turn into anything from here - maybe a musical?
I have a feeling this is oddly going to be an anomaly in media and we are going to get a masterpiece. It better be The First Contact War. I think Cena would be great for Mass Effect but i do not want him playing Shepard.
Go back 10 years and i would have been super excited but now im really dreading this show. I really hope they dont try to force big name actors in just for the sake of it. I hope they even use some of the voice actors as a primary element and at the ery least if they do retell Shepard they use the player most chosen pathways bioware has images of. Also i hope if they do go the Shepard route the characters look like the characters and not just putting people in the roles for "big actor name clout" if the dont go shepard route, first contact war is the best thing they can do, but i can see that being a very short series

Cena - Conrad Vernor
This really gave me some hope
Thanks for the update. He is reassuring. But he is not the only player. We'll see. I'll watch it anyway. I hope it has some connection to the next game. I'm assuming it will have connections to existing stories. Like Paragon Lost. In Shepard's timeline.
That's what I'm expecting too. I'll watch but keep expectations in check haha
I thought they'll make the TV show a bridge to the next game too, but hearing it's not even green lit yet, the game might come out sooner...
@@dorottyapapp if it is green lit it takes two years. Sad that games take much longer.
@@0x8badbeef But when will it get green lit??? The clock isn't ticking yet...
It needs to be a prequel without Shepard....Then at the end of the last show....Shepard steps in off screen
"You know what I mean" dude knows.
You know?
Cena might have the height for a Krogan or Turian though...
It is pretty doubtful that John Cena will be in Mass Effect, at least as a major role, He is spending the entire year of 2025 as a full time wrestler - as he announced his retirement.
There is a wealth of material from the universe, but this will miss the mark if they try to cast Shepard.
One lesson I learned about the creators being involved with movies based on their works, it usually insures it won't be a trainwreck but it doesn't guarantee it will be epically good either, Fallout was fortunate but that isn't a guarantee for Mass Effect.
Are they going to do a prequel show of Mass Effect?
@555NH Richard Jenkins....grandfather in a young David Anderson timeline, who also dies in act 1 scene 1 episode 1 season 1?
@@LuisManuelLealDias Sovereign featuring does not mean characters in the show knowing, or even seeing, Sovereign aside from those who are indoctrinated, and they do either die or are controlled by Sovereign to never reveal its existence or true nature. The Shepard saga should never be told on screen so I don't care about the audience learning the truth about Sovereign, but even that doesn't need to be explicit in the series.
Cena as Grunt? not sure but could be amusing. I like Henry Cavill if they do male Shepard
Great to hear that he seems to be excited atleast
John Cena was actually pretty good in Peacemaker. He would be a good choice for a comedy role.
James Vega maybe? agreed, Peacemaker was funny.
It's best not to have high expectations. This way, one can't be too disappointed. A film or series should be about the story and characters, first not big names. That's how they can blow the budget fast.
Oh yea a new story... That fared very well.
Well, transparency here is a step in right direction, at the very least they do seem to understand what they are doing so we shall see.
I heard Star Trek👀 IM IN🙋🏻🤣
you're so real for that
@@al33ksa Hehe, thanks!🥳
If you model the show after Firefly, but give it the polish and look of the current Star Trek show, you can't miss. Focus on the characters and their relationships, and have have the overarching story play out in the background.
There better be a Volus or Hanar played by Meer at some point
I still think they should have offered this project to someone with much more experience with science-fiction, especially the kind that got very good user and critics ratings and were a sucess, so this also applies to the producers, cause one of them worked on the Borderlands movie, which flopped insanely hard.
He can understand the difficulty of the assignment, plus it helps by playing the games themselves, but the question here is if he can actually deliver it while being faithful to the source material.
I would not mind seeing John Cena as James Vega
When journalists announced the writer for this show, they really shouldn't have lead with the "Fast and the Furious" angle, lol. After hearing him speak on his vision for the show though, I'm less worried about it.
He gets it: if you can't nail the characters and make us care, then the show is already dead in the water.
Increasing success by lowering expectations....
I could see John Cena as a Krogan tbh
Yes, that's what I was thinking as well.
Missed the chance to say "I could see John Cena playing Kasumi goto
Your mind >>>>
You know?
He clearly gets it, and by putting ME in the same breath as Star Trek and Star Wars, he understands that he’s on sacred ground. Let’s just hope he has the courage of his convictions to stop studio interference.
i think story about human - turian war would be interesting
Can we count on some Avowed news or snippets? It's been quiet on the channel and game is releasing soon 👉👈
Mass Effect trilogy director Casey Hudson’s studio is shutting down
Humanoid Origin is closing due to “an unexpected shortfall of funding”
I already made a video about it
i hope they're doing the first contact war time period, i think that would be the most interesting without stepping on everyones choices in the games.
I have not looked forward to an Amazon show before, but if they are taking the lore seriously... this video gives me hope. 😊
Fingers crossed!
I hope the excellent Mass Effect books\audiobooks by Karypshyn himself were also read as they helped flesh out the ME Universe
- Mass Effect Revelation
- Mass Effect Ascension
- Mass Effect Retribution
I am indeed hesitant, nervous and feeling many other things. The mass effect universe is so huge. You know it’s not just one or two major species involved. How are they going to make is just as impactful as the games. How can they make a Shepherd so to speak and make it just as big. I’m very scared
Cena as Wrex, he has the physique for it
I hope the main character is shepherd and his team and friends and lover since it’s about the threat of the reapers and all cuse if they gunna put a random main character idk if it will make sense while shapard is the main protagonist even a n7 soldier and hero of the galaxy
Omg this is great! But how are they going to do live action turians and krogan thats going to be so interesting lmao
I hope they can get this done, take the time and spend the money on the writers that will make this as good as fallout.
He should make the series about Marauder Shields 😂 that would be amazing
the benefit of hindsight of course is that the writers can make it seem it was all planned out and less of a deus ex machina when it comes to the crucible, just hint at in in mass effect 1 and 2 just as "project star dust" as we know was the death star
Yeah idk bout this one I'm heavily skeptical about how they are gonna approch this
True, but the fact they said they want to do it right says a great deal about how careful they want to be with the lore. That gives me hope. They need to play the games. They need to read the lore. Take your time. just make the wait worth it.
I hope I don't have to say "I should go" because its being adopted by Fast & Furious 9 writer. Or the power of "family" may make it good.
Being fair, the "I've Got Family" thing was/is the legacy of the franchise. the writer of the 9th film cannot in anyway convince them to change that. he has to play it by their rules.
I'm sold! He has the same passion and energy that other creators who successfully adapted videogames have: Jeff Fowler and Pat Casey with the Sonic the Hedgehog cinematic universe,
Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic with the Super Mario Bros Movie, and the many ones from projects like Detective Pikachu, Arcane, The Last of Us, Cyberpunk Edgerunners, Angry Birds, Warcraft, even older ones like Final Fantasy Advent Children, the CGI Resident Evil movies and the original Street Fighter 2 animated movie.
You know what? Screw it! I want an adaptation of the original trilogy and I believe Cena can be a excellent Shepard like Mark Meer was!
I just can't see John Cena being in Mass Effect
yeah I said it else but intent is met with intent, and the interview does at least project he's going in with good faith at least. Like time will tell if it's good but maybe just maybe we'll not have another mass effect deception.
Sure hope they don't fuck this up
As soon as I see Amazon being involved, I get nervous....
the real decision would be the squad since 4 members seems like the max without having bland characters but the issue with that is liara, garrus wrex tali leaves ashely and kaiden so do we sacrifice their characters or something? unless they are confident all 6 could be there and it would still be complelling and the characters will still be good
I’m on the fence but I want to give it a chance and have hope for it
id have more confidence if it was made by HBO so long as they dont fumble it kind of in season 2 like house of the dragons(one of the writers did a runner which may explain why its different)
How many times did he say "you know what I mean" 😅
John Cena could work as James Vega
they will have to change its ending up since we dont need It to have a divisive at best ending assuming it ever reaches that point also make it so the reapers have a better justfication or none at all(you cant say synthetics would wipe out life as the gek and quarians just proved that theory false in the good ending)just make it so the crucible docks harbinger attempts to stop this personally the fails then the "perfect ending" and since the writers have hindsight they can forshadow things better like shepards fixed body capable of surviving long periods in space(would explain how he survives with the destruct ending) also actually show or imply kind of that the illusive man was either indoctrinated sometime in mass effect 2 time or sovereign used him as a fail safe in mass effect 1 so by mass effect 2 the reapers have already been manipulating from the scenes
I could see John Cena play a Krogan with his great physique, not sure though if he’d be interested in having his face covered for a tv show.
Funny😂, but seriously, they can use literally ANY body builder with the least amount of paycheck to the job. but they better use CGI like they did in Halo TV series.
Where'd the dragon age video go, Kala?
🚽
I gotta Bad feeling about this......
I would prefer an expanse then star wars
So he actually played the games? Nice, I'm a bit less sceptical now
I will reserve judgement but not totally convinced
Go back 10 years and i would have been super excited but now im really dreading this show. I really hope they dont try to force big name actors in just for the sake of it. I hope they even use some of the voice actors as a primary element and at the ery least if they do retell Shepard they use the player most chosen pathways bioware has images of.
Also i hope if they do go the Shepard route the characters look like the characters and not just putting people in the roles for "big actor name clout"
if the dont go shepard route, first contact war is the best thing they can do, but i can see that being a very short series
worried because the writer and showrunner of the Wheel of Time series also said great things and the show turned out absolutely horribly
you will be able to tell with 80% accuracy from the cast and trailer if it will be bad or not, funnily enough it doesnt work for andor
@@username.exenotfound2943 Nah, the Wheel of Time wasn't bad because of the cast (the cast was pretty good) and the trailer looked fine, it was bad because it threw out the plot of the books and made shitty fanfiction from its bones.
@@maramagnus2587 tbf its only a probability since andor looked like it would be medicore crap but it was good
John Cena as Grunt!
John Cena should be Blasto, or voice a Volus or Elcor lol
