    @Out of Spec Overlanding
    Long time subscriber and fan of the channel. Really love all the tests and reviews. But please find an area where you can demo baja mode other than tearing up the parking areas at trailheads. A lot of work goes into maintaining these areas and drifting circles in these areas (be that ATVs, UTVs or vehicles) really tears them up. Hoping you can find some OHV areas where you can hammer on it, because I love seeing it and love hearing the giggles while you do it, but just not tearing up the parking areas. Thanks.

    Howdy folks you know it was about 3 months ago you guys did a video series when you went up into Alaska and you left off when you were in Dawson Creek at the beginning of the alcan highway and there has not been a part two which at the end of the video says it will not take as long so maybe you can give us a idea as to when that video come out on your trip to Alaska through Canada in your Mercedes sprinter van or is it not going to be completed and be left off?

    I would not be surprised if the front locker is intentionally disabled until validation testing can be completed. Mechanical lockers can easily be damaged or damage other components when used under certain conditions. With enough software intervention you can minimize the number of failures and therefore warranty claims, dissatisfied customers, etc. But that takes time to develop and validate.
    For example, you can limit motor torque and alter brake interventions for TC and ESC, for a given steering angle, vehicle speed, potentially axle weight, etc.

      @@chrislittle6490 In my experience, just because a vehicle is in Production doesn't mean it is fully validated or the software finalized. It just means Regulatory and Functional Safety (FuSa) checks have been performed and signed off on.

    Nice! I have Edition 1 #580 and love it - best offroad and onroad truck so far for us. Still have a Rivian preorder for an R1S but may not take it, instead take our Hummer SUV 3X order. All this capability along with the convertible, the tech in it all works really well, and its roomy size makes is such a cool truck.

    I know that electric motors have all their torque at zero rpm, but on a couple of those climbs you had it full throttle with no movement.
    I feel a transfer case with a low range would definitely help out, as you could ease up difficult sections without having to floor it.

    • @mus_xr4653

      I think it's the traction control to limiting the power

    • @djw1091994
      @djw1091994 Рік тому +3

      It's gotta be traction control, I'm not sure how much power the two rear motors are putting out independently but should be close to 250hp and 250lbft of torque? That's gotta be enough. Based on those power numbers and the instant torque available I don't see a need for a real locker. But if they wanted a rear locker they would need to take it from dual motor in the rear down to a single motor, like the front.

    • @carholic-sz3qv

      If I remember right they have to limit the torque in extract mode to not destroy the CV joints, I think he would have had more power in plain old terrain mode. Low gear would be a big improvement in control though

    Per the GMC website, one must be in Terrain mode to engage the front locker then hold the front locker button for five seconds:
    To Engage the Front Locker:
    Make sure vehicle is in Terrain Mode by using the Driver Mode Selector dial. In Terrain Mode, both the front and rear axles can be locked for maximum traction.
    To engage the front locker, press and hold the centerstack button that shows locks over both axles for 5 seconds. If the rear axle was not already locked, it will lock together with the front axle locker.
    Note: The front locker automatically disengages at speeds above 15 mph.
    Note: The rear locker is available at speeds of up to 50 mph in Terrain Mode.
    Note: The lockers can be manually disengaged with a push of their corresponding centerstack button.

    The software for the off-road traction management seems like it's in beta. Traction aids like lockers, low air pressure, gearing are about allowing the driver to traverse difficult terrain with better control. Having the throttle wide open with no forward motion is not having control.

They definitely have some bugs to work out. The virtual locker is also a bit of a let down, you wouldn't think they would even use the word "locker" if it couldn't come that close to making the electric motors work together evenly. Great video and still want the Hummer EV, I believe these are hopefully just Gen 1 issues.
