  • I've long needed to upgrade the fire pot in my coal forge. The grate didn't have enough slots, and they were too big. This week I spent some time revising my set up and including a German, Plunger type clinker breaker.
Hopefully after this my forge will be able to burn a lower maintenance fire, and have a larger working fire size.

Thank you! Me too! It's going to be a little while yet. I have a bunch of stuff to do around the shop yet.

..i'm all for being able to make a larger fire when needed. doing pans and similar items benefits from this. curiosity can't hardly wait to see the results and changes along with the modifications you make. Good job thus far...!

Yes, I've been wanting to make one of these for a while. I can't wait to put it to work as well.

That's an interesting style, I've never seen one like that before. I look forward to seeing how it comes out, thanks. I made one out of a brake drum years and years ago that worked pretty well except for the hood which was an old bent up tool box because that's all I had at the time😂

Yeah, they're virtually non-existent on the internet. I couldn't even find good pictures of one to copy when researching for this video. Centaur used to sell a version of it 10ish years ago but they were like $500-700 and must have been discontinued.
Joey Van Der Steeg uses them, and he *used to* have a video of setting up a new one.
My previous hood was about the same. Some random stainless box that was half buried in the pasture.

Thank you! Somewhere in between. I'm a farrier, and this ornamental smithy is a side project.

No, I did not. This is the second time I've had to turn them back on. I wonder what's going on. Thanks for the heads up.
