    The transmission does that because of the tire and rim size you are running because it's not stock. When running the stock wheels it works very well but soon as you do anything outside of factory it throws the computer off slightly. That's the reason for the auto transmission not working properly

    • @HondudeTeamMudhogs
      @HondudeTeamMudhogs  5 років тому +1

      Yep, that’s a problem imo. Be nice if it could be re flashed for different tire sizes.

      @@HondudeTeamMudhogs you would think they would build the bikes with a little more give in the transmission department because all the companies know that most every bike sold will go through changes from the owner. Most everyone loves to customize what they have purchased to make it their own unique style. But at least. One thing about the Honda that will allways remain is it'll allways have the reliability part covered better then any bike ever made.

    I have a Honda Fourtrax 420 Power Steering, Fuel Injection Trail Edition 2012-13, it’s an amazing bikes had it since 2013 no problems yet. The transmission you just have to break it in, my dad has a pioneer 500 and it was really rough and after a few rides it’s a lot smoother you just gotta break em in! #LOVEHONDA

    If you leave it stock and use what it's meant to be used for you won't have to deal with these problems. That goes with any four wheeler one size up on the tires and 2 inch lift at the max is all you should have to do. It's very hard on them and it's very expensive.

    bro have u ever heard of ProArmor Whiteout ATV snow tires? Idk if u live in a climate where it snows occasionally but they're awesome, would look exceptional on this quad especially

    • @HondudeTeamMudhogs
      @HondudeTeamMudhogs  6 років тому +1

      Interesting, wouldn't mind giving them a try. I find the Outlaws actually work pretty well, I will say they work better in the snow on higher horse powered machines though. I live in Canada, so we have snow about 4-5 months of the year. Thanks for commenting.

    • @danmurphy1994
      @danmurphy1994 6 років тому

      Hondude -Team Mudhogs - Thanks for the speedy response. This quad is particularly interesting to me. I have a friend who owns a plow company, with like 30 duramax, powerstroke and cummins powered pickups for the lions share of the work but he also has several quads upfitted with basic plowing equipment, his Suzuki Kingquad 450 has over 600 ride hours yet only actually driven 270 miles, so he uses that for lots of serious plowing.
      Which got me thinking about how I would set up an ATV for snowy conditions, say I wanted to use it as a plow, those pro armor whiteout tires are very cool looking with really blocky but comparatively subtle tread pattern almost look like ATV road tires but don't be fooled, they are extremely effective and ourperform track equipped atv's in my opinion seeing as snow tires don't result in a 30-40Mph top speed reduction and definitely result in lighter overall weight than with stock mud terrain tires let alone tracks, which add at least 200lbs overall
      After thinking about all the sport utility quads out there, I couldn't find a better one on paper for plowing snow than the Honda Foreman Rubicon 500, as not only does it offer a nearly instantaneous gear change with its' DCT when in manual mode, it doesn't suffer from the inherent limitations of belt drive quads, I love that it can even be had with a manual gearbox for added control and further simplicity, making it a unique entry in the entire industry for this.
      Was wondering if you find the performance to be more than enough on your Foreman rubicon? What does it top out at speed wise? Answer at your leisure, just wanted to get in touch with an owner of the foreman to aid in my research, I like that it has an OHV engine, that makes it about as close to invincible as is possible for plowing, all it needs is a snowmobile fairing windshield with handguards, heated grips, a decent plow, rear winch for recovery of high center incidents, driver back rest, heated, if applicable would probs help, heated seat, rigid light bars for added viz up front and out back, as well as a spot light, side view mirrors, full akrapovic titanium racing exhaust for the massive weight reduction and added performance particularly in cold weather, super high spec lightweight high strength wheels w/ proarmor whiteouts, further power mods, I wonder if it's got enough power to plow huge icy uphill driveways if properly equipped like that, many people plow with their quads but ive never seen anyone really gear up their atv' for the job, I think that with the right quad given the right combination of options and aftermarket parts could replace massive pick ups for 90% of plow jobs reducing emissions in cities significantly as well as saving lots of $ on big heavy trucks that require big expensive heavy parts. You can hook up a heated riding suit to anything now, i think they even make rechargeable, wireless heated suits helmets boots gloves etc now anyway so the technology is there to keep people warm in arctic conditions whilst exposed on a sled/quad etc

    • @HondudeTeamMudhogs
      @HondudeTeamMudhogs  6 років тому

      Ya one thing I noticed with the Whiteout tire is the width, which I think would boast a huge advantage in snowy conditions, it also seems to have a good tread pattern for ice? I'm sure you could also stud them if you wanted to make them a little more aggressive.
      We run tracks on a Can Am Outlander 1000, and what I will say about tracks is yes, you absolutely loose top end. That being said, the tracks themselves give you roughly 40% gear reduction. That's super helpful while plowing. If I were to run the Whiteout tires while plowing I think I would lean heavily towards a gear reduction in my Honda Rubicon, which is on the agenda for it anyways.
      I honestly don't know what the top speed of my machine is. I'm rarely on a road, and the trails I drive fast on are very technical so I never reach full speed. I will do a video on top speed with the stock tires vs Outlaw tires. Low vs Drive with both tires also.
      I find the machine performs very well for what I purchased it for. Not one brand make or model has it all tho. This is not a "go fast" atv, if I were to change one thing about it....even lower gearing would be my choice. Maybe just 15% lower. No one stays with stock tires anymore.
      I chose this atv for mainly 2 reasons, 1-i needed a reliable and quiet atv for hunting. 2-I wanted something that when I'm not hunting I know I can hop on and enjoy time with my friends on the trail.
      I'm very happy with this machine, it impresses me more and more every ride.

It also wraps grass around the axles really bad aswell and like you at most stops im pulling them out, except 2 of the axles of mine are hard to get to. What else.... I have the same bike in 2018. A big complaint that I have with mine is the randomness of reverse working. Most of the time, I have to hit the down arrow a few times before it actually goes into reverse. Not sure why that is. I'm almost to the 100mile mark for the first service, so I'll ask Honda whats up.

    • @HondudeTeamMudhogs
      @HondudeTeamMudhogs  6 років тому +1

    • @tittledieselperformancellc
      @tittledieselperformancellc 6 років тому +2

      Erick Marshall if you blip the throttle like 5% as your hitting the down arrow it'll shift. It's the slip collar having a hard time moving over the splines because there not lined up. You can also tighten the reverse actuator all the way which eliminates needing to pull the lever for reverse

    • @HondudeTeamMudhogs
      @HondudeTeamMudhogs  5 років тому +1

      Zilla is a great tire if your not to crazy on the mud.They are light so you don't lose a lot of power. If you like the mud a little more than trail, Cryptics make an excellent tire and they are a dime a dozen since they come stock on the Can Am XMR now. Used sets always end up going for cheap. If you don't mind spending the cash, I like high-lifter outlaw 1's. They trail pretty well, and they are excellent in many forms of muddy conditions. They also work well in snow.

      DCLEMMS1 i would really advise staying away from the lift. Honda ‘s got the cv’s on the axle at a pretty steep angle to begin with. Once you add the lift it really puts too much strain on them. I only made it 120km’s with the lift before I broke an axle. Removed it and had way better result. Too bad tho because the lift looks great. 28” is a great size imo.

      Thanks for the reply Hondude. Yea, I'm no mechanic but I agree..not normal. I took the machine out for an easy 10 mile trail ride yesterday and heard it again. Seems to get more pronounced when it warms up to operating temperature. Almost sounds like there is some "slack" in the transmission..no matter what gear...auto or manual. I'm kinda lost as to what to do next. I guess I'll just have to call the dealer back and say hey guys, sorry to say but this is not normal. Damn, I hate to have to tear into a brand new machine. I've got a little bit of time between taking care of my son and heading out to work so I'll take a moment out of my time to answer your arrogant comment.
      1. I don't have a lot of money hence why I make videos for people showing the pros and cons of this atv. It's important to know where your hard earned money is going, when people are truthful it helps with decision. I am broke just like everyone else.
      2. If people don't let Honda or any other company know the flaws in their products they end up staying the same and never improving. I complained about the reverse and on the new 520 auto models it's fixed. Not saying it was me alone that did this but the community working together. I have another video talking about all the things I really enjoy about this machine.
      3. The irony of you calling me a baby and that I'm bitching while you're the one doing that exactly is hilarious.
      4. This is a community for people who enjoy offroading and sharing information to have a better experience, if you can't contribute to that in a healthy way then move along.
      5. I have no idea what you're going on about a Polaris for lol

    Can't lie I love Honda but their automatic does suck a big one. It's never in the right gear for the terrain you're in. I've tried doing trail riding with the pioneer 500 and it was in 5th trying to go up a hill in auto. Lol but if you aren't lazy enough to shift(which I find gets the most power out of the engine), Hondas are a damn good machine. A gr and a 2" lift later and you have a machine that will go anywhere that you want and more.
