Really interesting information Ken. One question, When Todd talks about the fish 40% of the time or on flats, what water depth is he referring to? Shallow flats, deep flats, average water depth? Thanks Ken!
Pickwick lake in the late 80's. 7 largemouth 5+ lbs off the same spot. Right before a storm was hitting. Never had it happen again, but man what a day.
Serious question. Are the fish staying off shore more because of low water and lack of shoreline grass? When Toledo Bend is low there is no shoreline structure like buck brush or shoreline grass.
ken i found a spot a few years ago that i caught 28lbs one day. then went back 3 days later and shook off 2 that were 7 or8 lbs practicing for a tourney. have not caught those fish there since .
Finally something the freshwater guys can take from the salt. We know the fish love flats. Especially the random piece of structure on the flat. Just a bottom color change can create a spot for them to sit. Y’all gonna run get a poling skiff?? Lol. Damn things gonna get even more expensive.
Ken I had to listen twice to make sure I heard him correct. Fish on points 10% and channel swings less. Jones calling 911!!!! Please come to Lake Texoma. Need payments so low my wife thinks I am buying lunch!! Haha!
Super cool information! You may or may not be able to answer this question, but to what extent is this observation of so many bass up on flats considered to be generalizable? In other words, is the thought that fish in this particular body of water are behaving this way, or is the thought that all bass behave this way?
Good question! I don't think there is anyway to know, BUT, I am hearing from a lot of guys that do a ton of side scanning and 360 fishing and they are telling me they are observing similar all over the country
KEN, this has been a wonderful series with a tremendous amount of much needed information!!!! I think this particular #6 version has been the most Interesting to me!!! I don’t have any of the expensive electronics on my boas,he’ll I barely have one that gives me the correct depth, now, this will change as I plan to purchase another boat this spring and will put a couple nice locators on it, but, by not having anything t(at will show me the fish I have not done bad. I used to have a camp on Toledo Bend out of Zwolie, La. several years ago and I still fish the same way that I did back then and it has paid off pretty good. At 75 years old, I don’t think I will dive too deep on electronics at this place in time. My son’in’law and I fish both Toledo and Rayburn and I Have places that continue to produce. I also subscribe to the idea that you guys do that make a couple casts and keep on moving if no bites and I believe it pays off. Thanks for all that you do for us fishermen, and I think the best YOU TUBE channel out there!!!!!
Thanks again Ken. This information is invaluable. As a life long bank beater to hear almost all fish in study were thirty or more feet from the bank and then on flats was a total shock. Just added lube scope to my boat so I will be learning a totally new way of fishing. Thanks to Todd and Texas Parks and Wildlife also. Great work.
Thanks so much for putting all of this together Ken! I really enjoy seeing our "fishing funded efforts" actually working and the sharing of data. Toledo is a huge body of water and the amount of time it took(and still takes) to go out there and find these fish to track them is crazy. Flats... wow!
I wonder if it’s the motor running over fish that spooks them or the sonar pulse? I would like to see watching a brush pile with livescope while a boat with sonar turned off runs over the pile and vice versa
Would you believe I missed a fish last weekend watching a my bait, a 3/16 oz jig head and small plastic, I hit a fish in the head and that dude left town NOW so not only do electronics spook but it intrigued me as to how often do we run our fish off with bait
@@KenSmithFishing likely I would say as we were catching some pretty nice spots with an occasional striper or hybrid mixed in. Also the profile of the fish on livescope was likely the more common size to a bass
@@KenSmithFishing I feel like I've wasted years worth of fishing trip going straight to creek channels, sharp creek bends or swings, and drop offs..... Now I feel like they're just on stump roots in the middle of nowhere

He didn't break that data down for me, but i'll ask if he has that information
Keep Todd’s interviews coming. Great interview, great information.
anytime he wants to talk, I want to listen. He's also working on another project I hope he'll tell us about
ABSOLUTLY mind blowing!! serious eye opener! Thanks Ken!

And brings us back year after year
Could they be sensing all the extra multiple sonars???? I'm just saying!!!!
they are sounds waves!

Barry I think that absolutely has to be a factor
During the study and the movement was the moon phase also record and if so how did it effect the movements?
info is not in their data set
Awesome information. Thank you!!!
Absolutely awesome!!!!
Thanks Jeff!
When is the "Tin Boat" coverage starting ?
J as soon as I can get weather windows to film on weekends when I don't have tournaments, have had to cancel 4 shoots due to wind
Giving away my secrets about flats
so maybe fishing pressure is pushing fish into less pressured areas like flats?
Sure sounds like it doesnt it

maddening....
Lakes change every year weather the water is lower or higher in some years

Great, now I get to spend $500 on a graphite push pole

I'm so happy I don't need livescope and 360 to find bass. Ez-Pz
them boys are finding fish you don't Joe

Thanks so much, great info. Love learning the habits those fish.
👍
Great info very interesting for sure!!
Glad you enjoyed it
My best spots are full of my broken off lures. So im sure they have great knowledge on what not to eat!
You think fish think of those areas as "trophy rooms"?
@@KenSmithFishing sometimes i think there is fish skeletons there haunting the area. Because they got hung on those baits!
Really like this stuff..thxs ken
Kinda of re-writing the book
Thanks Todd and Ken, very informative!
