Hi, couple of things about your rest, I have the same one. First suggestion is that after you adjust the height, lock off the hand wheel, it will make it even steadier, secondly, the stand was sliding around when you were reloading because you hadn’t screwed the points on each leg down to engage the surface of the bench. Your bench has a shiny surface, the best surface to shoot off is either soft wood or a sheet of hard rubber, the points will then take a good hold and stop the movement when you reload. I agree with another contributor, get your head settled on the cheek piece for your first shot, and don’t lift it until you have finished that diagram, that means you need the ammo where you can see it to reload, and rather than lift rounds off the bench top, or try to winkle them out of the original packaging, get a block of wood with wider spaced holes or a decent ammo box that will allow you lift rounds without fumbling.
If you want to shoot really accurate benchrest you need everything going for you. I always tell new benchrest shooters that shooting tens is not good enough, here in the UK some of our targets have a dot the size of a pinhead instead of an x ring, to score an x, you need to obliterate the dot, and that is the frame of mind you need to adopt to shoot well, tens are not good enough. Good luck.

Yes sir, would love to see you test a variety of ammo doing that exact same 5x5 average. Thanks for posting such quality content. I’d wait on the trigger upgrade until you finish the ammo comparison. Then maybe repeat a couple of the “best” ammo with the tuned trigger to give a feel what that one change does.

When Ammo is scarce people tends to revert back to their 22s. What better way than slow target bench resting for extreme accuracy. Think you’ve picked a great topic!

So we finally bought my wife's new rifle today. It is the 457 Varmint model with 24" barrel (threaded for suppressor, though we will probably never get one for it) and the Boyd's "At One" stock. For now I mounted the same Weaver 2-7x scope on it that was on the Remington 511x she has been using for years (and I bought used in the 1970s) I was thinking of adding some enormous muzzle break on the end like on a Barrett Light 50. 🤣 Actually, I agree with her that the adjustable stock will be good for her to be able to adjust it to her. That is what sold her on the model. She also liked the longer barrel, the rifle she has been using has a 24" barrel.
We will probably get it out for a test drive this weekend. She is excited about it and expect to shoot groups like you do. 😉
Thanks, Buffalo. Your videos helped us decide on what to get for her.

That CZ457 MTR is a beautiful Rifle but it is not shooting groups even close to your MPR64 ps (might think about getting a good deal on a Anschutz 54 1710D HB then you should shoot lots of one hole groups ).😉👍🏻
ps I have looked at lots of CZ457’s comparisons on U-tube and most of the CZ457’s are not shooting groups like you would expect for a MTR .22 🥴
They are going for as low as $1550 NIB on some sites and I think specials on Anschutznorthamerica.com

Headspace is the most important thing when it comes to ammo. I set all my barrels shoulder back to 1.200" then shim them to the rim thickness. Example, Lapua/ sk.042"-.043". And Eley is .039"- .040" rim thickness. My cz457 trainer with Lilja barrel is set to .041. My cz455/ lothar walther barrel is set to .043" both shoot extremely well. Thanks for the great video!

Thanks, Buffalo. Great shooting. Keep trying different ammo. Tenex is good stuff but I have also had great results with Wolf Match Target and CCI Green Tag and even just regular CCI standard velocity in various rifles. They all seem to have their favorite.
The 457 is going to be our next acquisition for my wife's target rifle. I like the version you are shooting. She likes the "varmint" model. Same action and heavy barrel but more of a sporter style stock. Her .22 rifle shooting is either from the bench or at a friend's property where we just do the usual "plinking", but for that we usually use semi-auto rifles. I think the MTR model would be better for her, but she doesn't always listen to me. 🙄 She'll be watching this video also.
We appreciate the coverage you are giving this one. More...please.

Hi, I used to shoot Smallbore target rifle to reasonable level, I batch tested at the Eley factory a couple of times. The difference between batches was remarkable. Just because it's expensive match ammo doesn't mean it'll work all the time. I preferred RWS R50 as I found it better in my Anschutz 2013. But great video and thanks

    Salut,
    A very well produced video!
I bought my CZ 457 MTR last year and am now fascinated by Precision Rifle Shooting, even a 66 year old with poor eyesight and who requires a stick to be mobile can perform well.
I now appreciate the significance of Harmonics and am convinced (through testing) that all my rifles shoot better MOA groups when a suppressor is fitted, it simply improves the Harmonics.
You are using a Caldwell Rock tripod as your front support and their “sand bag” as the rear. I have found that (in terms of optimising MOA groupings) optimising the rear support rather than the front support produces better groups for me. In terms of MOA, errors at the rear will have more influence than those at the front. I use the Caldwell “Junior” tripod as my REAR support and a Harris bipod or a Caldwell sand bag as the front support. Perhaps the use of your tripod up front and my tripod at the rear is probably the ultimate support rig.
The “test sheets” that come with the CZ 457 .22LR rifles use RWS ammo, no surprise that the RWS Rifle Match performs optimally for me.
I also recommend the “Ballistic-X” software app. It is easy to use, provides your MOA results and the RTZ (return to Zero) adjustments required, and it is less than $10! Oh and you can email your sub MOA results to those “young bucks” at the club with all their hand built rigs!
    Cordialement

I believe you have a fine rifle; if you spend time making friends with it you will never need another. I really like the looks of that rifle sitting on the bench. Most don’t realize it takes time to learn what it takes to shoot little tiny groups in paper. You did a fine job shooting in front of the camera under pressure. All it takes to move a shot is doing something a little different than the last shot. I never liked ELEY much; I like CCI green tag better. But, the best I ever shot isn’t made anymore. I still have a few boxes of it seal and unopened. Federal Gold Medal Ultra Match; Federal made it after the Olympics. The Russians showed up with some ammo that had a dimple in the base of the of the case. Then proceeded to clean house taking a bunch of Gold back to Russia winning matches. The Federal stuff cost $25 dollars a box back then. It shot amazing consistent velocities thru the chronograph however, it didn’t shoot well a 100-yards. But at 50-yards it shot perfect scores on a regulation target near every time. When you start shooting at 100-yards a 22 can be real tricky shooting perfect scores. If I were you; I would just try the ammo you like the best and see what happens. Truth is; it takes a while to shoot one hole groups even if the rifle can. Make no mistake; that rifle can if you take time to learn how to dance with it. Shooting five-five shot groups fast as lighting is tuff to do. Watch your video and look how you made each shot. See if you can tell if your do everything the same for each shot. That is the secret.

@@robertmitchell9415 If you go to any small bore bullseye match and take close notice to what brand of ammo the highest scores are shot with it is real relevant. That might be the ammo you need to try first. More often than not; rifles and pistols shoot one brand of ammo better. However, it doesn’t hurt to try as many as you can. Some brands of ammo work well in more rifles than just one. The ammo I like the best; shoots high scores for less cost. That is my reason for my suggestions nothing more.

I shot USRA benchrest for about 15 years, and build custom rimfire BR rifles. Those groups are about what I'd expect for that rifle. Now and then you may get a "great" group. That said, the rifles we competed with would shoot astonishly small groups, however were shot 1 shot at each of 25 bullseyes on the target, with the ten ring being around 1/4" and the X was a dot bout like a period inside it. CZ's are usually fine shooting rifles. I had a 452 American that shot honest 1/4" groups, but not for competition, just for a squirrel rifle.

This is just the start to a game called Bench Rest 50 (BR-50). You truly need to purchase cases of ammo with same lot number. Then weigh each bullet and place them in about 5-10 separate containers. Do that with several brands, bullet weight etc. Trigger job so light a brush of a feather would set it off. Its a game the more you learn the more frustrated one gets. 🤠

I have the MTR in a 16" barrel and the best ammo it likes so far is SK "Flat Nose" it is the pink box. I have tried the more expensive Eley Match and Tennex and it does not shoot as good as the SK. I think from my experience with CZ over the years with the CZ455 and CZ452 and now the CZ457 is that the SK has the secret sauce for the CZ. I have yet to come across a better a better brand of ammo for the CZ. I would love to see a broader more comprehensive test with your MTR.
Ammo I have not tried yet in my MTR are:
    CCI SV or green tag,
    Winchester T22,
SK Pistol match and pistol match "plus"(which I hear good reports) and:
    Fiocci match.
There are a whole heap more but those listed above are the ones that come to mind because I can get them easily where I live.

Mine hates bulk ammo. One down side of this rifle. It has a match chamber says Cz. It will feed some rounds and not chamber others. I use it for nrl22. So I’m always using match ammo which always feeds reliably. I’ve shot under .5 inch groups at 100 many times with Lapua center x. But the bulk stuff doesn’t group anywhere near as well and it’s a pain because a magazine of 10 will not feed 3-4 rounds. For a match rifle it’s great for a plinker id pick a different model.

May not be able to find it any more but i bought some centurion 40gr lead high velocity ammo about 12 years ago for cheap. I got some out the other day and it shot great. Better than most other bulk ammo i have, actually better than some match ammo. I think i paid around 150 a case for it.

I would love to see more test with that great rifle. Have been wanting to try some of these brands of ammo but I don't have a 22 the caliber of your CZ. But gonna be a great series.👍👍

Buffalo. you are correct in saying .22's are finicky about ammo, also, you are testing at the start of the fall/winter season, temperature can make a slight difference. I have a trigger kit in my 452 varment rifle, that rifle, I have been very pleased within the accuracy dept. and like you, I have found the SK Jag ammunition is a bargain accuracy ammo. I would like to see what other ammunition does in your rifle, So feel free to pursue accuracy tests with other brands. RWS comes to mind and Lapua. -Dave

The YoDave trigger springs come with 5 or 6 in the kit and the lightest spring gets a CZ455 down to 6- 8oz. which is great if you like the lightest spring.
It is worth $15 for sure 😉👍🏻

Great effort and good set up but unfortunately as a lot of us Brits know Eley ammunition has dropped off in quality.I have personally pulled apart the ammo and powder weight varied as did bullet heads .Some boxes are caked in lube others just a whisper of it.Eley ammo just isn't what it used to be.The old blue tin wasps pellets in .22 went off the boil when the dies got sold off. Most used ammo in the UK now is
    CCI
    Winchester
    Lapau
Every rimmy is different what works in one may not in another. When I got my new rifle I just got 6 boxes of 50 rounds put 10 through the gun then did 5 shot groups until I'd used box up (50 yards/100 yards). Then pulled the barrel through and repeated.Luckily two winners appeared Lapau and Winchester .But you won't know until you do your testing.Great channel iv just subbed stay safe all the best.Tony

I'm looking for one of these. The MTR shoots better than the varmint model. I just wish the MTR came in the varmint stock.

Nice work.. like your content. I have found that my rifle likes the Eley Club... which to my knowledge is the fanciest Eley that is not the “flatnose” type. My Cz doesn’t like any Eley flatnose. Tenex, Match, Edge... also I see you are single loading. I got a single shot 3D printed tray off eBay.... works great.

Mr B O - it seems that Aguila is linked to Eley now so you might find good results from the low cost batches of Aguila's .22"s. Your weather is looking cooler & damper .. down here in NZ we are moving towards our Summer.

I cut a coil offy trigger spring and it's much lighter and works every time, if you accidentally cut to much off you could stretch it out a hair , I did a lot drop testing to make sure it's safe

Please try a barrel tuner along with the ammo with the smallest SD.
