- Osprey Wargames kindly sent me an early review copy of The Silver Bayonet Canada by Ash Barker. Its a game that's been tempting me for a while, so I took the opportunity to pick up the main rules and first supplement as well, and in this video I take a look at what the game has to offer overall.
Don't forget to check out if somehow you've found this channel but hasn't seen it, its excellent, and loads of Silver Bayonet content.

I super love that ash wrote the canada book. I live in canada, and used to work for ash. Will definitely have some hudson's bay company troopers in the near future!
If he’s anything like he comes across on his channel I bet he was great to work for.
@MiniatureRealms oh, he was awesome. Very much like he is on the channel. Taught me how to speed paint, so I could finish 120 skaven in under a week 🤣
@ArchangelMiniatureGaming Now that’s a very useful skill 😂
Superb idea to use these rules for historical skirmish gaming
I’m hoping it works ok, it won’t be the most historically accurate, but for 8 men a side on a small table, should be perfect for some fun themed games.
Great video! Really like the look of Silver Bayonet and you’ve really tempted me to take a step (almost) into historicals!
Thank you Jordan. You should definitely give it a go, very low cost/effort entry level as well.
Great overview. Thank you.
Thank you 🙂
Nice informative review. I was looking for some low figurines count skirmish rules and didn't think of SB. Also didn't know it had a card+die mechanic.
Thank you. It’s a really nice adaptable set of rules.
Nice video. I've been looking into this game since seeing your previous video. Actually been watching the Guerrilla Miniatures stuff on the game. Definitely need to pick this up and give it a try.
It’s such a perfect game to dip into with very little cost, and hardly anything to paint.
I’ve gone in a slightly different direction for The Silver Bayonet as I’ve got some old Alternative Armies Flintloque figures that were on the ‘dispose at the next Show’s Bring & Buy’ list.
Now my Elves have become a French force who are also hunting the Harvestmen and my Flintloque undead Russians have also appeared as the Vampire/Revenant part of the bestiary.
Next year brings the Silver Bayonet Egyptian supplement and The Old World Tomb Kings so it’s all coming together nicely.
As for the playing cards; Bicycle do a vintage playing card set with 19th century style faces which can easily be secured from eBay.
Strangely I’ve gone from ‘need to get rid of these figures’ to ‘If I ordered some Flintloque camels I could make some Mameluke cavalry’. I also have some not-Sharpe figures in Flintloque Ogre form that I think will also join the fray at some point.
Ah that’s a great idea, I’ve got a lot of fondness for that old range, perfect use for them now I’d say.
Killing a Baxbaxwalanuksiwe with an exhaustion token on you, now that's soldiering!
I’d be happy if I could just pronounce it correctly 😂
hi just got the canada book all 3 now homework now lol great video
Thank you 🙂
Played this today at a games con and it kicked ass it was portugese vs french
That’s awesome
I got some Northstar British and also managed to get an old box of Rippers horror wars "children of the moon" a box of Wolfman and werewolves. But I haven't started on them yet.
I’m a tempted by the Northstar sculpts, might have to pick up some, even if it’s just for the monsters.
@@MiniatureRealms I have the first 2 complete waves of minis. They are extremely characterful - lots of variety and individualness that is absent in most historical ranges, short of you doing your own conversions.
@Vorpal_Wit Their character is one thing that’s attracting me to maybe grabbing a few as well.
Great video. I had heard of silver bayonet but didn’t know much about it except for the overall preamble. Maybe I could use some of the free minis that come with wargames illustrated to come up with a band. You are right I think that only 8 or so models is a very low investment both in money and time to get into a game.
Loved reading the Sharpe series, I found them later in life so I read them in chronological order of timeline rather than release order which could be an advantage? Mixing gothic horror which I’m also a fan of (Dracula and Frankenstein) and Napoleonic stuff is a cool concept
Definitely a great use of the free minis from WI! I think starting now it’s definitely best to just read Sharpe in chronological order, I started with Rifles, then Eagle and so on, even then he added stories into the Peninsular timeline, and still has since. The ‘prequel’ stuff is very good, and it works on its own nicely as well.
First. Subbed.
Second. Yes. The first two books have been on my radar for about a year +-.
3. Me. 69. Only really gotten to miniatures beginning of last year. (Hex n counters exclusively before)have been doing mostly orcs and other critters versus humans.
28mm only
Wiley Games or Osprey Rules.
I bought some Napoleonic figures with the idea of using for these rules. I have only just recently primed the French. 2 boxes. Scheduled to paint n base in Jan. In Mini Warmutt next paint challenge. I have 2 boxes of Brits n one Prussian box. Will get those primed next month. Dec.
Depending on money I'm probably going to get Silver Bayonet for myself for Xmas.
Got no cannon. No calvary.
For now.
Did not know about the Canada book.
Sounds like some really plans and projects, thank you for subbing 🙂
I went for a witch hunter warband vibe rather than Napoleonic. I am just not really interested in napoleonic skirmish games. But a monster hunting skirmish type game - I’m there.
That’s a good idea, and the game is pretty flexible.
