Now we know what’s below rock bottom. It’s hard to fathom that many of us are just a few bad choices or debilitating circumstance away from ending up there ourselves. Poor souls.
St. Louis Metro resident for over 30 years. Thank you so much for exploring these places. I've always wondered what they looked like over the years but never had the balls to see for myself lol. Great stuff!!
We moved from the UK to the US in 67, all the big cities are in decline , America is nothing like when We first came here, by the way I'm from Portsmouth.👍
I think what ur looking at on the floor in the basement, is a drainage system, thats missing the grate that lays over top of it. Possibly for the mechanical stufff that is usually in basements, i.e boiler systems, water tanks, furnaces, stuff like that.(imo)
My mother-in-law and father-in-law grew up in East StL and it disgusts them (& us) to see how it is now (they graduated from the high school there & lived in an area that has pillars with lions on them at the entrance). Now they won't go anywhere near there and we def won't let them. It's PATHETIC how bad the city leaders have ran the place into the ground and don't even attempt to fix things. they close down places like the fire departments, saying it will ONLY be temporary but they NEVER re-open, which just leads into more abandoned buildings making the place look even worse and open to all types of illegal activities. What I don't understand is... Why do we keep tearing up/down forests, farm lands, etc to build more & more suburban homes instead of rehabbing old buildings & homes to keep our cities liveable and to be able to thrive??? It's really VERY SAD and SCARY at the same time. I fear one day we will no longer have any of our big/great cities left, nor will we have any forests, parks, farms, TREES!!! Does anyone else feel or think like this as well???
I know what you mean. I grew up in Berkeley. My parents bought the house off of Airport Rd in 1950, after the second war. They raised 8 children in the tiny house... it was a big, thriving community with having McDonell Douglas there, and the Airport etc... now it's run down, the elementary school is way behind the National average, and it used to be a AAA rated school district! It's a shame what has happened to these places. I keep thinking my old house in Berkeley is abandoned because my dad is haunting it! LOL!! He would be appalled at the condition of the house/yard and the tree's!! Sad....
Hello Tony this was a awesome catch. yes Rev Rice used to be over this Comminity center, I used to visit there and do a lot of activities and crafts. yes he owns the tv station KNLC channel 24 on cable because of POLICS AND Mis s management of monies he left and now only has one in downtown St Louis Mo btw they also training courses in their aswell
Great stuff. Too bad that the Armour Packing Plant & the Murphy Building is gone. I wonder if anybody saved the statues looking sadly on the wreck that's East Boogie, How about that paint factory on the north side or the B&O roundhouse?
As a Missouri resident let me set you straight only south St. Louis south city is the dangerous area other than Ferguson and the other half of Florissant the rest of the city is not dangerous
@@TattooTonyAlton You can disagree all you want you weren’t a delivery driver there for a very long time like I was I never had a problem out of anybody,That’s just a poor area,
Man, I'm glad you guys are brave so I don't have to be lol. Takes guts to get this kind of content. I remember those TV stationa knlc & nlec , they played alot of classic old TV at night, good for when the insomnia kicked in. No idea what those trenches are but I've seen them in other buildings. Hopefully someone can shed some light on that 👍
I hear about murders in larger cities, Chicago, LA, Ny, and Houston frequently, not East St Louis. How can you label it as the murder capital ? I’m not understanding this video 🤔
East St Louis 96 murders per 100,00.... in 2019 Chicago is 16.6 murders per 100,000 people. East St. LOUIS RANKS HIGHER THAN ST. LOUIS Missouri which is listed as thr #1 most violent city in USA for years on end and always in the top 3... rated higher than detroit and baltimore.. which are also more dangerous than any city yiu mentioned..
The population totals for the last 20 years 26k-27k . 100k must include Washington Park, Parkside, Edgemont, National city. Eagle park, golden gardens, centreville, faiirmont. These metro east town’s included would slightly support your findings.
No you dont understand. It's mathematics. Percentages... If you have 5 murders in a town of 1000, people it would be the same as 500 murders in a population of 100,000 people. That's how the lists that compile violent crime statistics ompare crime rates per capita... Do you understand the statistical comparison now? Would you rather be standing in a crowd of 100,000 people knowing 16 people will be killed, or in a group of 1,000 knowing 5 will be killed. If you mulitplied the group of 1,000 to 100,000 for a statistical comparison group b would have 500 dead out of 100,000... get it?
Rita Lane unfortunately, I have to respectfully disagree with you. It is not a Republican or a Democrat issue. If what you are saying is true, then the majority of red states wouldn’t have the highest rates of poverty. Take Oklahoma for example, which is extremely conservative, yet it is one the most highly impoverished states with no jobs, low wages and higher rates of crime. That is because the politicians are so tight, they refuse to invest money in the state and communities for development. Many public libraries and schools are outdated, and the roads are in desperate need of repair. The money is there, but nobody cares. The issue with cities like E. St Louis is the lack of proactive leaders in office, as well as lack of money and resources for making improvements. Extreme racial inequality is also part of what brought E. St Louis down. It was a predominately thriving Black community, but evil, jealous white men didn’t like to see Blacks succeed. The race riots of the 1920’s was only the start to destruction of the city. Racial inequality is also a problem today, especially in red states where most people are still prejudice. As far as corruption, it exists in any of the political parties.
Now we know what’s below rock bottom.
It’s hard to fathom that many of us are just a few bad choices or debilitating circumstance away from ending up there ourselves.

Very, very true.

Do some research on highest murder rates per capita.. per 1,000 residents
None of those cities you mentioned are in the top 5 murders per capita. Per Capita meaning your likely hood of being murdered is much higher
East St Louis 96 murders per 100,00.... in 2019 Chicago is 16.6 murders per 100,000 people. East St. LOUIS RANKS HIGHER THAN ST.
