This was a really interesting episode. One thing I see from the Mayor is a deep knowledge and understanding of the problems but I also see that he leans alot into the fact that his power is quite limited. Thats a good and bad thing but overall seems like a decent guy. And Thando always hats off to him cause his authenticity in everything he says is so apparent. I wish Thando spoke more though. Well Done on this episode Josh, your question and explaining timing has really gotten better(not that it was ever bad), keeping the conversation under control and in the direction that you believe is best for it. Shot bru.

I love how respectful everyone was towards each other during this talk. Some difficult topics to cover which can usually cause quite a bit of heat, but all three of you kept calm and let each other have their say and had great understanding for each other's opinions. If we can all treat each other this way and take a moment to listen and understand each other, imagine how much better off we could be as a society. Thanks Josh for making this happen!

😂You should see how the other side of Cape Town looks. Do you know that whole communities are still using communal toilets? Cape Flats where majority of Capetonians live have progressively gotten worse to the point where people are scared to come outside. The employment strategy extended works program of the DA in communities just appalling. They aggressively selling our best land to developers land which was taken from us with brutal force I can use the example of my own family. I could go down a long list of idealogical reasons and practical reasons of why no Black person should ever vote DA. As a White person you should praise the DA you are the one they are protecting.

Josh, refering to what you said in the beginning of this podcast about your plans for what you intend to do this year, ive been watching ur podcasts, and am always eager to see what you have uploaded next to watch, i can see your growth in each video one after the other and its truly amazing to see and am super proud of the ambition and perseverance, i think what makes you stand out the most is the genuineness in you, the things you bring to light, the way you make your opinion known, whether its a popular opinion ot not, i love it, its sooo rare i think in the industry you are in, most podcasts i watch i feel like im watching a movie and its just acting, but with you its a very different feel, very unique, never lose that part of you and never feel you need to be like the others, you are amazing as you are, your podcast will grow and numbers will rise, rome wasnt built in a day, SA needs more of you and your content. Dont change you, improve if you want whatever you feel you need to but please never change you, you are going places, the sky is the limit and im routing for you!🎉 Also your dad seems like thee most amazing dad ever❤
#All of the above is just my opinion

Gordon Hill Lewis is a fantastic Mayor, he speaks with such wisdom every time I hear him. You tell me a better Mayor in South Africa than this guy and he is only mid thirties in age. The issue is people don’t understand that it takes getting the fundamentals right first in order to lay a foundation for the economy to come right. If you can’t see that our Mayor is genuine then you don’t know what that is!

Great interview and lovely guests. I think on my side what most opposition parties don't want to admit about the ANC is that they speak to the poor and uneducated more than any one of the parties. Hence how they have remained in power always since 1994 no matter the corruption and failure they bring. Other parties normally talk to the middle class and elite including EFF, IFP, DA, ActionSA etc. This makes it impossible to gain the poor vote which is normally the most loyal vote and has high turn out numbers. This country will move forward when our opposition parties start addressing manifestos that work for these people. All the best to the opposition parties in 2024, we need change

Great episode and shared much needed insight. I have to show immense appreciation to Thando. For me, he pin pointed the real issue that seemed to have even enlighten the Mayor, which he stated is the lack of information. Use flyers, use paper, use posters on employment opportunities etc. Politics is business, but let's not forget about the importance of social integration on all levels. I do believe there is genuiness in what the Mayor is saying, the motivation he shows for things to change is truly inspiring and what a leader should possess.

I used to work in Mitchells Plain until 2001. Most people were employed then, Police were responsive, and criminals were actually scared of the Police but now everything is falling apart. I live in the UK now, and young people joined gangs for the same reason, dropped out of school for the same reasons, they did not see opportunities. Thankfully the conservative government (as much as I hate them) saw the wisdom of creating more technical courses at college, apprenticeships, pay poor students to stay on at school.

  • @ethanjoelgeorge
    @ethanjoelgeorge Рік тому

Great pod Josh. Quite informative views from both sides, really admire how you mediate these interviews. At some times I felt that Gordon was a bit apathetic, however I realise the local government has an abject lack of support from National and in turn it must be difficult to micromanage the crises' that National government is liable for. I do hope his view on the military gets redefined though, especially if they will take the majority vote. The defunding of the military and the demolition of "dormant" bases is by far the most unstrategical macro economic move a country can make. The sovereignty of a country is upheld by its military prowess, and in the silent battle over ownership of our natural resources and commodities, a robust military is not only essential but imperative. Additionally the system of law enforcement and protection has somewhat of an hierarchical effect as well, as lower tiers of protection services confidence are reinforced by the capabilities of those higher (along with substantial and rigorous training of course), and having a good military can consequentially grant law enforcement and SAPS the extra confidence/patriotism needed to execute their work more effectively.
PS. We need to be encouraging patriotism more, giving people in cores of service an ideal to strive toward and not making it into a mundane job. Men seek purpose in their service, and redefining their service as a job removes that imperative from their work and as a result we get overweight, poorly skilled servicemen doing the bare minimum just to clock off at 1530B and get their pay on the 15th.

Thando's question on "free electricity units" that has been taken away, the Mayor response was to say that it is linked to the value of your property. How does this equate to the income of an household, we know that properties will increase over time, so what did the City do, they slapped poor people with a fixed surcharge for electricity over an above the electricity units that the person needs to buy to keep the lights on. We're still struggling with the aftermath of the "Day Zero" water scare and are still taxed with a fix amount on our utilities bill for "water". When Thando asked about service delivery the Mayor made sure he ducked the response to this question, go and have a look at our townships, I stay opposite a play park where no maintenance is taking place, no water of the grass or general clean up. In our leavy suburbs we find park attendants that ensure those parks are maintained on the daily and you really think the Mayor is doing a good job?

I accidentally came across this interview & listen to start to finish. It's clear that people in the Cape & around SA still suffer from the devide between race, education and basic living condition. Trust me people especially young youth (so called born frees) really love to know enough from each political party on how they actually can bring true change, but because of all the agendas pushed on so called media platforms it's hard to make them feel invested on whats true & false. I would like thank Josh & Thando for actually having a sit down with the Mayor to see where his at on this epidemic on drugs & gang violence & unemployment in the communities in the Cape Flats. We all support all these narratives problems abroad this country & forget what our own people is suffering through. Hat off too Geordin Hill-Lewis (super nice guy) to actually coming through I hope everything that was address here was not fallen on deaf ears. Peace & love ❤️

Why doesn't the DA ask each manufacturer to donate 5% of there profits to helping the underprivileged.
Also ask the prime minister and ministers to donate 10% of their Petrol money to the pensioners
They live like kings while we are going to bed hungry 😢

First of all, how are YOU somehow a previous owner of that land or any land close to it even? You have evidence that YOU or YOUR family once lived there, owned it, perhaps farmed? Who is us? Or even let's say if people who have been migrating to western cape but has no affiliation with ancestry can claim land there basically? @@AbZak_1 😂

Heartbreaking to hear so many people waiting for their situations to improve. Handouts have only led to a lack of entrepreneurship, ingenuity and grit.
If you want to help the poor then rather donate to NGOs and the host of organisations doing work to promote education, healthcare, fight crime, etc.
