    What differentiates Joey from other content creators who also share the intention of helping others is that he doesn't just overwhelm you with various pieces of information. He interjects key points with logic and comedy in a way that makes the content more valuable and memorable. Every time I watch a new video I still recall a previous one where he acknowledged that making it a routine to watch improvement videos without taking the time to practice them in your life is counter intuitive. It seems logical and straightforward, but I relate to his sister in the sense that I can get very caught up in the process of things instead of just focusing on the application like his other sister does. Plus the editing is next level.

    Not only is this true, I have proof. I have ADD. 6 years ago, I was in my room contemplating for 3 hours how I wanted to mount my TV to my wall. I literally just stood there, paralyzed, at where I wanted this thing so the room would be even. My step-dad walks in and said "You and your mom are the same - y'all think too much. Put the damn thing on the wall and worry about your mistake later." Soon after I mounted the TV and it was perfect. 6 years later I'm still applying this method and, with my terrible ADD, all my clothes are always put up, the place is always clean, I get my projects done on time, and I'm never late to anything anymore. Literally, just don't think. Just go. It's the absolute most simplest thing and it required no deep meditation or any bullshit drug.

    So true. In the last few months I've been following this simple rule: "every day no matter how I feel, no matter what happens: I will go to work, do the house chores, play drums and go to the gym. That's the bare minimum I will do in any normal day, everything else is optional". Doesn't mean I always feel great or everyday I'm happy, but I know AT LEAST everyday I do something useful that makes my life a little better. And after a few weeks it feels completely normal and I love my routine.

    This is so true. Tremendously effective. My best accomplishments were all a result of entering in a kind of "robot mode", where I simply did exactly the things I needed to do in order to achieve my goals. For example: "just study this subject 2 hours/day for some months. Do not overthink. Do not get lost in aprehension. No stress. Just do it, first thing after waking up, then get on with your day." It always work.

    As someone diagnosed with ADHD later in life, I wondered for so long why I couldn't just do things. I can't "just do it" because my brain is neurologically different. I want so badly to just do things. Just a reminder that there can be more to the story and you aren't a bad person for not being able to "just do it." It's not your fault and you can get help :) Self help is different for neurodivergent people.

      I haven't had a diagnosis but I seem to struggle from a lot of symptoms of ADHD. I don't believe in self diagnosis but there's got to be some overlap in fixing this, even if I'm neurotypical.
      I've watched and tried what feels like every productivity video and tip but the moment it comes to getting myseld to DO something, I can't. Every part of me throughout the day wants to do that thing but I just can't man. What do I do?

      @@dispersion4333 I'm similar to you, no diagnosis, may not even have ADHD probably a broad spectrum. But, I watched another Better Ideas video where he was talking about how our brains always tend to prefer to do the most 'awarding' immediate activity, to get instant gratification. If you intentionally make yourself bored then your brain would compare the task you do not want to do with the idea of being bored. This seems to increase the chances of you doing said activity. If I wake up in the morning and go on social media straight away, instantly, I have given my brain a high dopamine shot and instant gratification. So the likelihood is I would not want to do much else throughout the day as no other task would provide such a high level of instant gratification. But if I wake up and instantly do the activity I do not want to do I have a higher chance of doing it as my brain would compare the task to just lying in bed for example or sitting watching a brick wall ahah Hope you know where I am coming from! Helped me a lot!

      1 in 4 children are diagnosed with adhd by the age of 7. 1 in 10 of this children will not grow out of it in adulthood. There’s pretty good odds that you may have it if you exhibit several of the known symptoms. I suggest researching it. There’s loads of clinical speech’s regarding adhd on UA-cam. Understand what it is and if you think you might have it, make an appointment with your doctor, or any doctor. Tell them you think you may have adhd, explain what symptoms you suffer from, and ask if you can be screened for it. Additionally it’s well documented that anxiety and depression are bed fellows of adhd, and are usually the result of those symptoms. You fix the cause, and the other problems will begin to fade away. I know it sounds like a lot to do, and it took me years of arguing with myself to finally do it, but getting medicated for adhd has truly changed my life. So if there’s one thing you’re gonna just do? Make it that.
      I wish you luck in your journey to self discovery

    I paused this video midway to say that I relate to your sister no. 2 on an emotional level. I have always been the person who overcomplicates the smallest and easiest of tasks. I guess it stems from perfectionism. I always put things off till the very last moment because doing it when I have an abundance of time in hand, would mean that my brain will churn itself inside and out to figure out the best way to make my task perfect. I overthink the tiniest of academic tasks. Just yesterday, when I could have happily enjoyed my weekend, I continuously worried about an interview analysis that I had to submit. I did not work till late at night but the supposedly free time I had on hand prior to sitting down to work, was marred by obsessive thoughts about how difficult the interview analysis would be. But when I finally started it, my brain astonished me with the speed at which it produced content and I was like, "Woah woah woah. This was so easy?". It happens to me all the time. It is like an unending trap that I have caged myself in.

      I wish we were not having to watch this through LCD screen that by the way causes depression, makes you feel immersed into stuff only to realize that you burned significant time and energy while doing a simple task such as watching this video. It goes over people's heads, but RLCD screen is superior to LCD and should be mainstream because it doesn't produce blue light and doesn't reflect it straight into your eyes. It is not however. Why? Well companies don't want you to be healthy. They want you to immerse yourself into all the bullshit they make so they can profit. Simple, isn't it? However this mentality leads to even the people you know becoming victims, even your family becoming a victim of your horrible ideas. I get it, evil works against everyone including your own family, but I just want to remind yall how technology won't improve our lives as much as we think. In fact, it might do completely the opposite thing. Best of luck and I wish yall happy 2024 or maybe let it be as 2023? I hope it doesn't get worse, but from my perspective, the odds are it will. So be prepared and do things your own fucking way. Bless all you rebels and renegades man

    It's worth mentioning that the self control to "just do it" usually involves paying attention to the emotional context (resistance) to override it or solve it at its source if it's specific. Procrastination is often escaping those very emotions, while actually doing the thing requires accepting them (or procrastinating so long that there's no more choice and letting the panic monster take over).

    careful not to emotionally supress, bc that could lead to a series of other problems. I personally think it's easier to solve that mental block that's kepping you stuck, than to constantly push against it. Solving it could represent finding a new way of thinking about it or letting go of other peoples' expectations. I think I heard this on healthygamergg's channel: first sit with the feeling, don't fight it, then ask yourself, "what would I be happy with?" For me it did help, bc it makes me focus on what I want for myself not what others want or expect of me, which by the way was all in my head.

    • @AF2277S
      @AF2277S 6 місяців тому +12

      That works up until you use “what would I be happy with” over and over. Happy is just a momentary feeling. So aiming for whatever makes you happy will do nothing beside pushing you towards the quickest root of happiness. A better question to ask yourself when you have a hard task is “what would myself tomorrow wish I did today”

    • @georgianac14
      @georgianac14 6 місяців тому +1

      I sometimes neglect to be empathic to my feelings and moods of today for the version of me from tomorrow. If we can't be connected and understanding of our feelings in this present moment, who should? I appreciate you for taking the time to answer. English is not my first language, I hope this message reads in your mind in the soft voice I meant it and not in a cold or mean way. 😊

      I agree with the premise that we should connect more with our emotions however I also believe that the more powerful thing is knowing when to disconnect from them. More often than not we are using the emotional side of our brain. Most people say men need to open up more and be more emotional however we are emotional, we just show it in different ways.
      The reason I bring that up is that if we can learn when is best to disconnect from our emotions then we can look at some moments, not all but some with clear vision instead of a clouded one. It's why when someone's going through a hard time we can normally spot right away the way to solve the issue as we don't have skin in the game.

      Just kidding. Yeah, this is a very interesting concept. I usually do "reverse psychology" on things. It never works, although it is good for my emotional balance. Now this way of thinking makes so much sense since we usually end up saying (after starting a task and being on a roll with it) "Well, it is actually easier than I thought". It always is. We just "forget" about it.

Wouldn't be surprised if that's the case for most people who have to deal with this. Luckily it's something that I've come to better grips with as I've personally worked on my mental health over the course of past year (along with help from counseling services provided by my school), and I think it's something that people who have perfectionist tendencies really need to hear. So yeah, thanks for putting this video out there!

    I just came to the realization and started putting this into practice recently after being in a funk for a little while.
    Removing all the contemplation and overthinking and just showing up and doing something everyday is incredibly powerful. Like when I know I need to get something done, but I also know I’m not feeling it, I just look at myself honestly and go “okay, maybe that’s too much, but you have to show up and do the bare minimum, just show up”. Now that I’ve been doing that for the past week or two and am on a roll, I feel much better, am getting more done, and there’s less emotion and strain involved.
    The weight gets lifted off your shoulders if you merely have to show up, put in minimum effort, and do a shitty job. Funnily enough, once you start, you actually end up doing more and refining and making it better than you first thought, you just had to get out of your own way first. By going through this process, you remove the emotion from doing the important things, and makes you a robot almost but in an amazing way. It’s like a superpower really.

    🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
    00:00 🤔 *Life is often simpler than we make it out to be. We tend to overcomplicate things with emotions, guilt, and motivation, but the key is to make binary decisions and act consistently over time.*
    02:52 💭 *Overthinking and procrastination can lead to unnecessary stress. Sometimes, just taking action without overanalyzing can yield similar results.*
    03:50 🤖 *Approach tasks with a more robotic mindset. Focus on the actions that need to be done, like asking someone out if you want a relationship, without overthinking it.*
    04:48 📚 *The video sponsor, Audible, offers audiobooks that can help educate and improve various aspects of your life, including health and longevity.*
    06:44 ⏱️ *To simplify life, identify the most important tasks, treat them objectively, and take action without unnecessary emotional baggage. You can reflect on bigger life goals separately.*
