I'm not a sporty person but this watch seems better than most. It's not trying to be a smart phone.

I think this is the watch for me. I don’t need the plus. Just for weightlifting, walking, hiking, and running for me.

Hi Wes! The material that Garmin uses for the frame of the Venu 2 is fiber reinforced polymer.
I have mine for 7 months already with zero issues. Totally awesome sports/gps watch.

For trail running did you just choose run or does it now have a trail run option?

Thanks, Wes. Appreciate the review. I'd love to hear your thoughts on how the Venu 2 stacks up against the Amazfit GTR 3 Pro -- especially since Garmin doesn't provide performance metrics like Training Load and the like with the Venu and its "siblings" (the VivoActive line)--and with the GTR 3 Pro we get a PAI score. That seems to be a useful feature that Garmin doesn't give me. The other big difference seems to be price. Would you consider the HR tracking from the GTR 3 Pro to be as accurate as the Venu 2?
P.S. Love those shots of London! One of my favorite places on earth!

First i want to say GOOD REVIEW, next yes I really really hate that venu doesn't have training load and PAI. I think more I use the watch I like it, but lacking this feature, that even cheap cheap bands from competitors have is just frustration. I don't expect integrated maps or best triatlon mode, but for sake of God metrics about training and recovery is basic functionality, not something that just premium expensive gear will get you. You have them from most cheap crap bands from competition.

cons: Doesn't have e-bike profile, and swiming mode leave lots to be desired. Animated workouts should be better integrated in excercises (like in venu1).

Hey, could you explain what you mean by the animated workout difference between the Venu 1 and 2, please?

I really like this watch. My only issue is that the vibrating alarm is so subtle that it doesn’t wake me up.

You know you can increase its intensity? I had it on default and I've now increased it to its maximum and it's great (default was fine, but subtle).
