@@AnaWallaceJohnsonYou did a great job narrating this video! I'm sure your trip was awesome. Count me jealous. 🤢 So it's been over a year, have you or are you considering another long road trip? I'd like to hear about the food you ate. Did you have any: Scrapple or eggnog or Mexican Frozen ice cream bars or maybe elephant ears which is a deep fried pastry perfect with apple butter. Or yummy croissants? Please read the book Miles From Nowhere by Barbra Savage, you won't be sorry
Loved this video!! Especially because I think many people have a perception that certain states are less literate or don't have much of a bookstore culture (especially in the wake of all of these book bannings/library protests)...but seeing these stores running in small towns and all of the "banned books" sections and merch is really awesome!
I'm young and have no means to travel yet , but ,, Thank you and Oleg for taking us on this trip! . Hands down for making this content available for book lovers around the world!! I'm pretty sure this video will blow up!
I love Wall Drug and hole in the wall! I went wild there last summer on a cross country road trip and have like five books on female homesteaders now. What a magical place outside of the Badlands! Thanks for such a fun video!
@@AnaWallaceJohnson No kidding, huh? Also can’t wait to check out those VT spots. I never venture past Brattleboro (NH resident) so I’ve got to push through and get to those shops! There’s some gems in NH that you’ve definitely got to get to.
I can't travel so this video was exceptional for me. That whole trip looked fantastic. Thanks for the view outside the box. Slept in the car? I admire your chutzpah. Well done!
Was this road trip based around your visits to bookstores? That is exactly what I have in mind and I already plan many of my daytrips around visits to bookstores. I am envious of this road trip of yours, but am happy to see you had a great time and now I have a greater idea of quite a few bookstores across the country and seeing some of those that you enjoyed. I have visited many in my home state of New Jersey, plus a few Barnes & Nobles and Posman Books in NYC and Philadelphia, as well as Joseph Fox Bookshop in Philadelphia. I know that Vermont has some 20 bookstores and a list of each of them. It was very smart to incorporate them onto your trip and I may want to visit just for the bookstores alone! I bought books in Gettysburg, but I believe it was centered just on the Civil War rather than general history like For the Historian. They also sold books at the main site. I have been to quite a few places that also sold books. A friend of mine and I have visited an antique store quite a few times and I have acquired a few books from my visits. I saw this when it was first released and I told myself I HAVE to watch it and so I did. Thank you for sharing! -Josh
Thank you so much for watching, Josh! I had no major plans to see any particular bookstores on the trip, but it's the easiest way to see a small downtown, so it just started to evolve into a book based trip. I know there are so many more iconic bookstores to see, so another trip must be planned 💫
It's my pleasure! Sometimes a good trip just turns out being good due to other reasons such as finding great bookstores. It is amazing how bookstores continue to thrive, even in a world where online shopping is becoming the big thing. I would much rather visit a physical bookstore than go on Amazon. There are so many trips that can be planned just around book shopping trips. I would like to plan one of my own! :D
Paka Ana ! Awesome video ! You reminded me of my second trip to Quebec. I met there an online friend who loved books, and we matched and have been great friends ever since. On my next trip, we visited pretty much all Quebec (up to the tip of the point of Quebec, on the Atlantic coast, facing Europe) and we visited ... 37 bookstores ! and I bought .. my God 73 books ! Never bought that much again. I've also since been to the English speaking ones with tons of American books .. Now I'm much more serious. I have to record my video to show what I've bought in September. And the amazing bookstore I've visited in Oregon (not on your video). I've just realized by watching your videos that I've been to 19 out of the 22 States you've showed. Not too bad for a European ! It looks like Oleg and you had the best time ever ! My sister has told me that we drove around 6,000 miles in September.
wowowowow traveling QUEEN! I love Quebec (and the people too!) I can't imagine trying to lug 73 books back with me, so I applaud whatever suitcase you had with you. 6,000 miles?! pretty damn good! I'm proud of your travels and the commitment to seeing it all!!
LOVE everything about this video as well as your commitment to vlogging thru your trip. It would also be really cool to see the iconic (or the best shots) from each state in between the bookstores footage. either way really cool vid. its on my bucket list . just subscribed!!
@@AnaWallaceJohnson I used to live there and it was literally such a wonderful place to live, 10/10 recommend!! Although if you want to un-romanticize it a little bit, read Missoula by Jon Krakauer 🙃
This is the trip of my dreams... Used book stores of America! I am from NM, and in Las Cruces there is a huge used book store called Coa's, where I've manifested some creepy book every time I've been. I think of it like a magical bookstore. If you're ever in southern NM, I recommend. Don't forget to eat your green chile while you're there :)
I loved this video Ana and seeing all these amazing independent bookstores. Where I live in Upstate New York, we only have a Barnes and Noble and thankfully a wonderful library; no independent bookstores so this was a treat. Did you get a lot of books? Thanks for sharing with us! ❤
The book haul is out now, if you were curious as to what I got! B&N is a great substitute for the independents, but something about a small store makes me feel like I'm at home 💜💜
NY to Montana, then to Texas. Up through the south by way of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. Blue Ridge Parkway to VA and then back to NY! Vermont was just a little side trip!
That's the best Road Trip idea I've seen in 36 years. When is your next tour?! (allegedly there are 2,185 independent bookselling locations in the United States)
Fantastic tour of America bookstores .thank you for your video.
Ana, this is such a great video! An ode to books, local bookshops and the bookstore browsing experience. I love it!
Thank you! Anytime we entered a town, I beelined it to the bookstore🐝

totally! Those book stores were bumping! I wish I could've seen them all
Wow. Fabulous! You keep outdoing yourselves Ana & Oleg! Thank you. ❤
We can't keep in one place for too long!
Loved this whirl-wind tour!
winding and grinding through the states!
Worth the wait. Captured the bookstores beautifully.
thank you. I need to figure out the auto focus on my camera, but it's always a work in progress

Fantastic tour of America’s bookstores! Thank you!
Ken Burns, move over!!

Miss Ana you have done it again 😙👌 Another wonderful video that is a highlight to my day!!

I was zen when editing it
I loved this. Incredibly done! 💫💖
Thank you, Rebecca! Your book will be there soon : ))
Fantastic Video. I highly recommend the book barn in Niantic CT if you haven't gotten the chance to experience it yet.
Ooooooh, noted! Next time I'm in CT, I'll make it a point to visit
this vid feels so cosy 📚🍁☕️
Pull up with a nice tea and settle on down, baby

Living. The. Dream.
Thanks so much for taking us with you. One day I will drive coast to coast visiting book shops and drinking tea.
Oh, it's an absolute must. If you designate time to visit bookstores, you'll never be lost on the road
There’s a comic/used bookstore in Tulsa OK that is really great!
Omg! I just watched this and realized you were in my hometown! Santa Fe, New Mexico!!!
I love Santa Fe!! One of my all time favorite cities
Fact&fiction is THE BEST, with the best owners, too. So glad you spent time in Missoula :)
Do you live there?? I absolutely loved everything about Missoula and would consider moving there if Montana ever made its way into my future

Missed this video oh my. Seeing this after your more recent book haul video 🎉
So happy you caught this one! It's one of my favorite videos to date
I gasped when you went to Ernest and Hadley! What the heck! I lived there for 5 years!
It's so amazing! The used section is something of my dreams. Also, Dreamland BBQ is fantastic.
A bookstore with just history books?!?!? HEAVEN!!!
My goodness, you are the coolest person on YT!
💃I'll take that compliment!
