  • Salvador Dali appears on the Goodson-Todman game show "The Name's the Same" (January 19, 1954), with host Robert Q. Lewis and panelists Gene Rayburn, Joan Alexander, and Bill Stern.
TNTS ran from December 1951 to October 1955 and was another oddball variant of "What's My Line?", a 20-questions type of show in which the gimmick was that the contestants' real names were the same as celebrities, places, things, etc. Thus Woodrow Wilson, Virginia Beach, A. Mule, Will Bathe, etc., ad absurdum.
As on WML every show had an appearance by a celebrity guest, and the gimmick here was that the guest had a secret ambition ("Who I'd Like To Be--just in fun, of course") or a "secret wish", and the panelists had to guess the secret.
Dali appeared several times on game shows from this period. This is the first of two appearances that he made on TNTS. His second appearance can be seen here: • Salvador Dali on "The ...

Those people paid him $275 and got a priceless Dali original. But, I'm curious if it got erased from it being on a chalkboard.

Honestly now, when Salvidor Dali walked over to that easel weren't you expecting a heck of a lot more of an effort than what he delivered? Dali's appearance on "What's My Line" was much more entertaining.

A figure 8 with a pointy hat. Does that say "infinite dunce" to anyone else?
I wouldn't exactly call it a stupid sketch when he can insult a patronizing TV host to his face and have him feel simply honored and confused.
    Genius.

Then why not make an infinity sign instead of an eight? The message would be a bit clearer.

there was a strange reality to most early TV, because of its lack of definition, it was somehow more real than what is on now odd, not sure of the reason but, yes, it was better

I think the difference is this was completely unscripted. Unfortunately the majority of "reality" television nowadays (especially from America) has so much set up drama and completely fabricated storylines that it can't help but come across as fake

A little Easter egg on that last title graphic: among the names on the card (right above the word “SAME”) is veteran ABC NY graphic artist Hy Bley, who designed those titles. Guess he just wanted to sneak his name in!
