Hi gavin, am thinking of getting a jcp rack but can only get a 33 ltr rub size in my snake room door, would that size be suitable for a breeding female ball python? Cheers mate
The only btter thing in thanks that they look much better. I think a plastic tank is not that heavy and also keep humidity better. BUT it looks really cheap and if I want to see my snake I can't becouse plastic is not as crear as glass.
im a beginner ball python owner .i was going to put my baby ball python in to a tank or a vivarium but now after seeing this video and after you explain the benefits that a plastic tub can do to a ball python like heat , humidity ,secure ecc.. definitely the best choice for a healthy and happy snake is a tub !! thanks a lot balls2u :) :) :)
Another good video with great advice. I got 6 x 33ltr rubs for my rack and I also ordered dividers that slot together to make the 33 ltr tubs into any smaller size I want and when my snakes are ready for the next size tub I can just alter the dividers to suit, that way I only buy one size tub instead of buying 6x9ltr, then 6x18ltr then 6x33ltr tubs
Why don't you try him in a 12L RUB it's just a little bigger then the 9L so he will feel as snug as he does in a 9 just with a extra couple inches in length to move!! Could be a reasonable upgrade for him if he's not comfy in a 18+ RUB
Really enjoying your videos. Thank you so much for the effort! Maybe a bit late now, but I'll still give it a shot: I've read about a rule of thumb saying a ball python should bei moved to a langer tub once its length reaches 1x the long side of the tub + 1x the short side of the tub. I'd be interested in learning your take on this. Cheers from Germany & thanks again for all the effort and information. It's hugely appreciated.
Ralf Gaiser hi and thanks for watching..... TBH, I don't go by any rule as I find they are all different.... I watch and take note of what they want and then give it them. 👍
Gavin, I have a girl that's been off feed for 7 months. I have tried everything "foodwise." Rats, ratpups, mice, live, frozen, prekilled. She has 2 hides. Nothing works. She's in a 22-1/2" x 14-3/4" x 5-3/8" tub. Going to downsize and see what happens. Glad I caught this vid. Thanks.
glass vivs are good for arboreal ,small or animals with high humidity requirements but royals they don't move that often and like an enclosed space. but as apposed to a glass viv it looks like one massive open space to them stopping them from eating and so on. also I don't really like the fact of having heat on or near glass
spot on Gavin with your views with these tubs I transfered my girl she is 880g from a 32l to a 50l was not happy ieven put in 2 hides ..she didn't eat didn't come out of the hide tried her for 3wks so I put her back in the 32l she settled within a week she was back eating
Great video, keep them coming,i work in a newspaper printing factory,i bring home a nearly empty roll of plain paper, does bedding for my collection for months : ]
Hey Gavin, no matter the size of the snake you always use paper towels or unprinted newspaper ? do you layer or just put one sheet in and call it a day?
Hello B2U, First off, fantastic snake videos on your channel. They are really helpful and I'm beginning to really understand what it takes to keep them. By the way, what do you think of a regular, high 20 gallon tank? It's just that it's currently what I have at the moment; I'm keeping a fish in there to grow for a while but eventually I'll be moving it to a bigger tank and then shutting it down.. and I figure why not put it to use as a snake tank. Also, what's your opinion on ZooMed's 20 gallon long ReptiHabitat snake kit? Or I should really just go with a tub? If I go with a tub, what size do you think is really great for full-grown ball python?
@Balls2U Hi, I’m a new Sub...What did u get from that spider and pastel outta curiosity??? I just bought my kids a Lemon Pastel at the reptile show...Great Vid by the way!! Very Informative!! #Peace ✌️
victor famosaya no if the humidity is good they don't need to soak in the water for shredding only if they had mites they tend to soak if they coil round the outside of the bowl could b female to do with her follicles
mezmery a That's because your BP doesn't have enough humidity or maybe your lil dude just likes to soak it off. But care sheets will always say it's a must and it really isn't. The only musts are proper humidity, temps, at least one hide, and a water dish. And of course your heat pad, thermostat, thermometer, and humidity gauge.
I have my snakes in 18 quarts or 18 liter? My snakes are about your snakes size... maybe a tiny bit smaller. I hve 2 hides in there for them. I was worried it was too small for them but I guess bot. They all have GREAT feeding response. Actually they make me feel like I dont feed them enough! So this makes me feel a lot better. 18 quart 15 liter actually I believe. Idk.
What if you were to put wood panels around outside 3 sides and the top of an old aquarium (with a wooden lid at the top)? Would that help keep in the heat and everything well enough?
Sadly, it's a law in Germany, that a ball python enclosure has to be at least 150cm x 60cm x 50cm, or so, no matter if the snake would feel better in a smaller enclosure or a tub. Only breeders with a license can use racks. So what I actually plan to do for my first snake (BP), is to build a wooden terrarium, like the one you showed near the beginning, with the dimensions it has to be by law, but with a hole in the bottom, to put whichever size tub under it (hot spot in both, of course), should my snake show that it wants to rather be in a tub. That way it has a choice, and I'm not breaking any laws, that could get my snake taken away. The terrarium would then just be pure decoration, should it choose to just stay in the tub.
my snakes eat in glass enclosures , just himidity is a consistant issue , i put a small container with soaked moss and cover the top with wet rags and mist once a day or so depends i would rather switch to a vivarium as soon as possible
when it comes to sizing , is it ok to place a baby into a full size ( say 50l rub ) as long as it has a good hide or 2 , so you dont have to keep sizing up ?
I tried to edit my comment and deleted it like a dumbass, so sorry for all the replies. Hatchings don't feel safe in large spaces especially, so the bigger the space the more hides and accessories you should put in so they don't feel exposed. You could also block off part of the enclosure until the snake grows into it.
I know there's no "rules", but my boy is over 1100 grams now. He's in an 18L, but he's almost too big for his hides and I need to upgrade. I always worry that perhaps a 33L Really Useful Box might not be 'tall' enough, and a 50L Really Useful Box would be too big for him, but he is due an upgrade. I know when he does a bathroom in his RUB and steams it up, he tries to 'get out', and I think maybe the 33L is too 'short'? Am I looking too deeply into this, Gav? I only do this because I love him, of course.
rapser55 You're never supposed to use a heat pad or heat tape that is not regulated by a thermostat. You just set the temp at about 88-99°F and that won't melt the plastic. Also don't stick your heat pads to the bottom of the tub. Take some aluminum tape and tape the sticky to sticky and walla. Reusable heat pad.
So If I get a rack and tubs from Walmart I can use that and where do I get a heating Pad petsmart and do I need A light source of its on a shelf and where do I put the heating pad
Well the good thing about balls is they don't need their own light. Whatever the light is in their room, such as some sunlight cast through the curtains is just enough for them.
My ball (Python) is about the size and is incredibly defensive of his vivarium so I will try putting him in the rub (same as yours) that he was in when he was younger.
Britain Is An Orange you put it underneath the rub(really useful box) and turn it on? I mean it's common sense 😂 unless you meant to say "wouldn't this create a fire since the heat mat would burn the plastic" and no it won't since the tubs are designed to take up to like 70 degrees Celsius.
i got a pyhon like that i ad a 3 ft viv he wudnt eat for me i ad hides everything wos right then i got a 2 and half ft viv he eats wen i offer everg 14 days 😊
Don't understand why the glass 1s are no good because they're see through but clear plastic 1s are perfect that's moronic. I believe this is just breeder's putting out false information to cover up their cost-cutting, so basically this rubbish about it's all about what the snake needs is rubbish!
great video brother. love how detailed you are in these quick videos. you speak great facts.
thanks brother, just like helping people with our hobby 👍
great vid as always gav nice to see a uk guy paving the way for the hobby plus your west mids which is even better keep up the ace work
Hi gavin, am thinking of getting a jcp rack but can only get a 33 ltr rub size in my snake room door, would that size be suitable for a breeding female ball python? Cheers mate

haha good point 👍

Anime és egyéb marhaságok. :3 you can get clearer plastic tubs but at a higher cost because most of them are hand made if it’s very clear plastic
They really are. Me and my brother can move my 50 gal vivarium with minimal effort. And I've seen 2 grown men struggle with a glass 50.
If he's happy I'm happy if he's feeding I'm fee... happy

Right to the point and simple. Good video.
Luis J Nieves-Gonzalez thank you

This python's phase is gorgeous ! :O Gratz for your work

Cj hey did downsizing get her to start eating again?
I would like to know too
This is a year later but did downsizing help?

Patsy Meyer totally agree with u
Great info vid Gav, the very reason I send people your way when they are looking for BP keeping tips. And sometimes short just don't cut it lol
haha thanks mate 👍😁
haha the trolls are about haha 😂😂😂😂😂
hahaha i like this! like my last video lol
my baby ball python got mites the day before he was a bout to eat. I'm realy scared for him he is thinning out. what can I do to help, please help me
+Maddog Patton OK, go to my video on how to treat for mites and follow that video...
+Balls2U k thanks
thanks he seems to be moving more and exploring, do I have to wait to feed
spot on Gavin with your views with these tubs I transfered my girl she is 880g from a 32l to a 50l was not happy ieven put in 2 hides ..she didn't eat didn't come out of the hide tried her for 3wks so I put her back in the 32l she settled within a week she was back eating
Can you do a vid mentioning what weight snake needs what size tub?
Great video, keep them coming,i work in a newspaper printing factory,i bring home a nearly empty roll of plain paper, does bedding for my collection for months : ]
thank you....I get mine from the chip shop lol 👍😁
Hi Gavin another great vid.. Could you tell me what this morph is in this video? cheers
Boss 88 thank you, he's a enchi ghi 😊
Hey Gavin, no matter the size of the snake you always use paper towels or unprinted newspaper ? do you layer or just put one sheet in and call it a day?
I use two sheets on the unpainted paper and one for the paper towel 👍
Great video thanks for sharing, Snakes do better in tub?
Hello B2U,

So a 19L-33L would be good for an adult, right? I should've watched the entire video. Sorry, I can be impatient at times haha.
loving the smoke colour!! where did u purchase from Gavin?
jane British born from b and q 😊
going to my second reptile show this weekend man, gonna grab at least 2 that I've had my eye on. what were your first breeders?
exciting times.....my first ones as breeders was a pastel and a spider 👍
@Balls2U Hi, I’m a new Sub...What did u get from that spider and pastel outta curiosity??? I just bought my kids a Lemon Pastel at the reptile show...Great Vid by the way!! Very Informative!! #Peace ✌️
Wonderful video Governor. Great advice. Hope you and your family is well.👍😀
thank you brother, all's well my end, hope you and the family are well also.... 😁
Shouldn't the bowl be big enough for them to soak in during shed?
victor famosaya no if the humidity is good they don't need to soak in the water for shredding only if they had mites they tend to soak if they coil round the outside of the bowl could b female to do with her follicles
jane British born ah ok thx 😁
this is so helpful im a big fan from the philippines
Great video and info as always.
Amazing info yet again top video. Guys listen to this man Gav knows what he's on about. Perfect cheers buddy.
thanks mate 👍😁
awesome vid. but what about snake soaking? arent' your water dishes too small? by bp likes to soak in water dish when it's in shed.
mezmery a That's because your BP doesn't have enough humidity or maybe your lil dude just likes to soak it off. But care sheets will always say it's a must and it really isn't. The only musts are proper humidity, temps, at least one hide, and a water dish. And of course your heat pad, thermostat, thermometer, and humidity gauge.
What heat mat do you use for under the tub?
I have my snakes in 18 quarts or 18 liter? My snakes are about your snakes size... maybe a tiny bit smaller. I hve 2 hides in there for them. I was worried it was too small for them but I guess bot. They all have GREAT feeding response. Actually they make me feel like I dont feed them enough! So this makes me feel a lot better. 18 quart 15 liter actually I believe. Idk.
As long as the snakes are feeding, don't stress, it's all about the snakes at the end of the day. 👍🏼
What if you were to put wood panels around outside 3 sides and the top of an old aquarium (with a wooden lid at the top)? Would that help keep in the heat and everything well enough?
Ela Mongrella not sure TBH
Sadly, it's a law in Germany, that a ball python enclosure has to be at least 150cm x 60cm x 50cm, or so, no matter if the snake would feel better in a smaller enclosure or a tub. That way it has a choice, and I'm not breaking any laws, that could get my snake taken away. The terrarium would then just be pure decoration, should it choose to just stay in the tub.
Ela Mongrella I'm sure they will be OK.... It's a shame about some laws
my snakes eat in glass enclosures , just himidity is a consistant issue , i put a small container with soaked moss and cover the top with wet rags and mist once a day or so depends i would rather switch to a vivarium as soon as possible
do you use bottled water, distilled water or tap water for you balls pythons?
Steven Duckett you can use tap water, but leave the water out for 24 hours so the chlorine dissolves.
Steven Duckett reverse osmosis
Don't ever use distilled water for drinking, that goes for all living creatures.
How long of off feeding until you go back to the smaller tub? First time? second week?
I need to know this please
Hi Gav great info as always,I'm looking at getting a couple of royals soon.Do you ever have any hatchling/young for sale?Cheers
hi, thanks for watching, yes I do, check out my info video with my contact numbers and email and I can send you a list over. 👍
when it comes to sizing , is it ok to place a baby into a full size ( say 50l rub ) as long as it has a good hide or 2 , so you dont have to keep sizing up ?

my albino stopped feeding when I moved him to a 12l from.a 9l not a big difference but moved back n feeds again .......
I know there's no "rules", but my boy is over 1100 grams now. He's in an 18L, but he's almost too big for his hides and I need to upgrade. Ya it will be fine
Hi.
Is a 30 liter 70x40x15 cm bin enough for a adult female ball python to breed in?
Thanks in advance.
Cheers.
Cheers mate great looking snake..
Can't get over how good this boy looks! Continues to get better and better! Good advice bro! Safe and secure, is the way to go.
thanks mate, I'm looking forward to breeding this guy 👍😁
Great video Gav, lots of information for people.
🌾 Green Blessings 🌿
thank you 😁
Very awesome
thanks mate
what do you prefer the heat tape bottom of the tub or in back of it
Ray Noval bottom is best. They absorb from the belly, not so much ambient air
Where do you get your tubs? Can you order them online?
Lorenzo Gomez walmart
Do you have a heating pad on the tank
what RUB size suitable for semi adult ball python ? or adult is the 9L ok ?
yes for fish but wont your heater burn the plastic?
rapser55 You're never supposed to use a heat pad or heat tape that is not regulated by a thermostat. You just set the temp at about 88-99°F and that won't melt the plastic. Also don't stick your heat pads to the bottom of the tub. Take some aluminum tape and tape the sticky to sticky and walla. Reusable heat pad.
Alysis 216 my heat mat is in contact with my RUB and I have no problems at all.
If you use your head and use a thermostat, and for example set it at 90, then it never gets hot enough to burn the plastic.
And isn't that tub to small for your python
So
If I get a rack and tubs from Walmart I can use that and where do I get a heating
Pad petsmart and do I need
A light source of its on a shelf and where do
I put the heating pad
If*
Clutchuhhfool you can use heating wire or the heating pads that are cheap and are on famous rack system
Well the good thing about balls is they don't need their own light. Whatever the light is in their room, such as some sunlight cast through the curtains is just enough for them.
Get a heat mat and a thermostat
Where do you buy your tubs?
seedreamsss you can buy them in places like Asda
so on average what do you keep a full grown male in litters? and what do you keep a full grown female in litters?
male 18-33 and female 33-50 ltr
+Balls2U ok thank you for the info. you have a great channel
I got told that the snakes need the uv lighting aswell......i can never understand how this works in racking systems
Snakes that are nocturnal don't need uv light
Royals are nocturnal.
I really want a ball python but my dad is secretly scared of them 😂
take him to a reptile show and win him round haha 👍
+Balls2U he would probably freak. but great idea thanks 😃
mate is this tub on your vlog 11 litres?
3:18 9 litres
not a short video hahaha
but very informative thank you
I shouldn't say that really should I haha. thanks mate 👍
Hahahaa you can see what your getting into as a viewer so no one should complain
+John Deuel true 👍
How much does that ball python weigh?
nice vid again mate!
thank you
My ball (Python) is about the size and is incredibly defensive of his vivarium so I will try putting him in the rub (same as yours) that he was in when he was younger.
it's fear aggression more then defending his viv.....try taking him out more and he should get used to you opening the viv.
I forgot to mention he has never taken a rat from my tweezers.
+ReptileVlogs it's a trust thing, so it is fear aggression.....
+Balls2U yeah but he will bite the rat as if he's scared of it.
+ReptileVlogs you need to handle him more and get him use to you, and he'll build up his trust with you
iv'e kept boa's ball pythons in exo teri can you use them
Tazgo Gaming yes as long as they are happy.... But I always advise smaller the better
just noticed i have the same paper as you x
How do you use an undertank heater on a plastic tub?
Britain Is An Orange you put it underneath the rub(really useful box) and turn it on? I mean it's common sense 😂 unless you meant to say "wouldn't this create a fire since the heat mat would burn the plastic" and no it won't since the tubs are designed to take up to like 70 degrees Celsius.
Why does it make a difference what their house is made of when they hang out in their hides most of the time?
good video thank for the info
thanks for watching 👍
Toby reptiles breeding and snake
Nice video.
thanks
question my ball python hasn't ate in a month should i keep offering food or should i just leave it alone for 3 weeks
Joseph Stell did he eat?
WALDO yeah I had to switch it to live she been frozen thawed he whole life but had to switch it worked tho
I actually had to feed her live
Can i grow ball python in plastic boxe like you do?
Arnas150 I don't see why you couldn't
I agree sliding door vivariums are ok but fish tanks aren't good as there open and ball pythons like to hide so fish tanks are shite
What morph is that bp ?
*WE ARE REPTILES UK* ghi enchi
It's gorgeous
i got a pyhon like that i ad a 3 ft viv he wudnt eat for me i ad hides everything wos right then i got a 2 and half ft viv he eats wen i offer everg 14 days 😊
those boxes are as much for ball pythons as glass tanks
I have my ball python in a glass tank and it is doing fine
if he's doing fine then great, I just would never advise glass tanks that's all. 👍
Start breeding business
Check it out Gav over 2k subs get in there buddy haha.
haha I'm shocked Tbh, glad people are enjoying the channel 👍
Don't understand why the glass 1s are no good because they're see through but clear plastic 1s are perfect that's moronic. I believe this is just breeder's putting out false information to cover up their cost-cutting, so basically this rubbish about it's all about what the snake needs is rubbish!
No it's because glass does not hold heat or humidity like plastic does..... Get your facts straight before bashing breeders!!
Don't anthropomorphic with animals; it doesn't work. Nice fake 'ivory' (hehehe). Now I know which size of tubs to get.
Another great video bro! :-)
thanks bro 👍
