Range Report: SilencerCo Maxim 9 (Integrally Suppressed Semi-Auto Pistol)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 жов 2024
- In this Range Report I get to shoot and review an integrally suppressed semi-auto pistol from SilencerCo. This pistol is the Maxim 9. The name is derived from the inventor of the silencer Hiram Maxim. This is a unique design and is considered to be a high quality firearm even though it did not reach great commercial success. How does this gun perform? Is it quiet? This video documents my personal thoughts, opinions and experiences with this gun. Yours may vary.

The problems you are having is due to the optic plate and optic screws, do not bother with rocksett it will vaporize, the optic can get up to 400F after about 10 to 12 mags. I have an fde maxim 9 from the 7xxx serial range. and took a dial caliper and called up forward controls to verify their acro plate would fit and it did perfectly with a dab of super glue layer in front of the plate and a polymer jewelers hammer, in order to tap it from right to left. PLEASE use resbond 907T and it will hold up! Took a few years of trial and error since nobody else had one or tried to run an acro p1 or p2 with a maxim 9 for a more hard duty use. FYI to all maxim 9 owners! My firing pin dimpled after about 1700 rds logged on my logbook shooting exclusively federal purple Syntech 147 gr and federal syntech 124 grain. But your groups are dead on with the problem I had. Mine has black nitride were the clamp that pops out for the slide, that ones fde? Im curious if thats a 2nd revision or pre 8k serial (theres only about 10000 of these in existance, with later serials performing better than the lower serial range) due to revisions and subtle changes to improve function & reliability.
Did you happen to shoot a disassembly/cleaning vid while it was there? Quick, easy, simple maintenance is always a plus.
Yes, it comes out today.
i am not an expert but i have always read that it only takes a few inches of barrel to stabilize a bullet. the advantage of a longer barrel with iron sights is the longer sight radius to minimize sighting errors (also of course higher muzzle velocity). i enjoy your videos.
Thank you for the information and I think you are right.
If the red dot is not sighted correctly, height over bore, throwing it off, that might lend to inaccuracy. There are some X factors at play.
I do agree.
Good review, that is an interesting one for sure.👍
That temp doesn't surprise me at all, one mag dump from a 35 round mag in my Ruger PC Carbine and the barrel is well over 250F, and that is unsuppressed, I try to avoid those 35 rd mag dumps after seeing those temps....
Wow, that is hot! Heat is one of the things that can damage a gun over time.
An area gun shop has one of these. I told them when they get their paper work done, I was interested in it. We shall see.
They are collectible now that they are no longer made.
Yah and most if not all public ranges REQUIRE you to use hearing protection regardless.
Yes they do. Mine does not though, but indoors I always will even suppressed.
Well hello my man Jason Mr. Common Conjunctions, good video my man, my FFL has a black one I held it and they let me shoot it. I have to agree with you it is very comfortable to shoot but not my cup of tea bruh... Jason could you create a video on the Tisas 1911 duty DS would like to hear your thoughts bruh!!! 😎
LOL! Thank you as always.
Great video
Thank you so much! That means a lot.
@27:13 it looks like your screw is backing out which may be why you were having accuracy issues. See if your accuracy improves without using the dot or remounting the SRO to spec. Also try using 147 grain instead of 124, even though it is integrally suppressed using 124 is going to put you right at 140 db. The Maxim was never the quietest can only being about 130 with subs and still having a high pitch.
You bring up a great point about the pitch. It was pretty high.
So disappointed Silencerco could not continue production. Since we've entered the era of red dots and fast NFA stamps, I would love one with some revisions.
I agree. I think there is a place for them now.
I may be wrong but I don't think 124gr 9mm is considered subsonic. That weight might be on the very edge. I think you need 147gr or above.
You are right.
Regular ammo or subsonic? That's the question, because regular 9 mm is supersonic, so it kind of makes the suppressor a little redundant IMHO!
This pistol is supposed to slow the supers down to sub velocities.
@@thetexasgunvault Nice, but wouldn't subsonic work better still because? I mean an MP5-SD (that's the one with the integral suppressor, which also slows down supersonic 9 mm) works better with subsonics (the Navy Seals also stuck with some M3 Grease Guns for a while longer, because .45 is quieter (even with the suppressor on their then new MP5s!) as a naturally subsonic ammunition!
147 grain 9mm is quieter, but you probably already knew that.
Yes I did. Thank you.
Also, for some reason I'm wondering if those "random lines" on the grip and frame is actually Morse code. I don't know what it might say but that would be pretty cool if it was. It would imagine it reading: "The right of the people to keep and bare arms shall not be infringed"
It is not morse code as I can tell. But I can see what you mean and it would be cool if it was.
Good morning, Jason, I could see the faces of the authorities here in Oz if I tried to import the Maxim. So, I will just dream about owning one. Cheers
I bet they would love it! 😆
Does anyone sell this or carry this pistol? Does SilencerCo still make this? I’m confused.
I think it is discontinued. But like anything, you can still find them places.
It’s a fair review, but let’s be real, that thing is coooooool af! #2ABuddy
I completely agree!
Mine is very accurate, so not sure what caused your issues.
It might just be me, but I did tried my best.
@@thetexasgunvault seems more like it’s the gun itself, I assume the screws on the red dot are tightened, don’t think you would have missed double checking that, not sure what would cause that. I’d send it to the manufacturer and have them check it out
It almost forbidden popsicle hot.
LOL! Yes it is!
Wow no 1st round pop
It is a really cool gun.
I am wondering why the dust cover is so big .
Sounded kinda loud to me too... maybe because you was inside a building???
Well, so of the ammo I was using was 115 grain and probably going super sonic. But the inside does reflect much of the sound.
So, it's come to this point. You don't even have to be a firearm manufacturer to put out a plastic, striker fired pistol. 😳
LOL, so true!
Yeah, a weapon you can't take apart and clean (ok: Other than bladed weapons, which you don't need to take apart for cleaning), is not a good thing! Hell, fouling isn't as bad with "smokeless" modern powders (they do still produce smoke, combustion always does, but of course less than black powder!) might not make your weapon nearly unusable after firing a few shots if you don't use the ramrod to at least surface clean the bore etc. but you are still producing "dirt" (powder residue)...seriously, do we want Cyberpunk 3D-Printed "single use" (as in the magazine is an integral part of the weapon and can't be reloaded at all) guns and suppressors you can at best dump into a cleaning solution to soak and hopefully remove at least enough dirt to still use it for a while, till it is gunked up so badly that you have to throw it away? I really doubt it! Even with mordern additive manufacturing (basically 3D-Printing stuff, which can be done seamless and without the option of taking that thing apart alter on) you can make things that you can clean!
As for this weapon: This is one one sexy futuristic looking weapon! Seriously, it wouldn't look out of place in say 'Blade Runner' or even in military Scifi like Stargate
I agree with you.
So much blowback on this gun for me. Rented it twice. Make sure u wear eyepro
You are right. There is a lot.
Yep, your wife is definitely a better shot than you.😅 I personally think that the gun looks very front heavy and I noticed that a lot of your shots were low. So it seems like when pulling the trigger, you inherently cause the muzzle to dip downwards. This likely can be trained out.
I think it might be.
It really is not heavy, but unbalanced.
