I refused to go on any mission of any difficulty less than the most dangerous. Send me, Send Me into the Hellfire! I screamed at my Democracy Officer. I lost brothers on Calypso too... too many... but I made them feel it more. Calypso Stands, and The Helldivers will bring the Hell to any Illuminate left standing. You are right. It was The Squith's Malevelon Creek... For Them.

interestingly on Calypso, the civilian casualties weren't that bad, we only lost "Thousands", so the sacrifices of the Helldivers saved countless citizens. Most of the voteless we're fighting seem to have been beamed in from those missing colonies of ours. While a tragedy, to be sure, they can't pull that off anymore as we know they're out there now.

Was part of the first reaction wave sent to Calypso. My squad and I went in blind, all the stories from the first war led us to believe we were gonna fight 'squids in hover cars'. The moment we touched down, a Harvester was on us, melting a few of my comrades. Then we saw what we thought were civillians fleeing from underneath the tripod like monster, only to quickly realize what they were. I watched one of my men get eaten alive by Votless as they swarmed him. All I could hear him say was "Choke on 'em." Then the Overseers ambushed us, pinning us with suppressing fire and grenades. Lost many Helldivers that first hour. I'm amazed we managed to finish the mission and extract despite all the casualties...
I was apart of the very first wave to Calypso. We had emergency relocation from Shelt. We didn't know what to expect. My detachment was absolutely throttled by the Jet Brigade on Shelt before the DSS became operational. We are some of the few who made the sacrifice to stay on Shelt while most of our brothers went to the aid of Gaellivare. Calypso was a nightmare. Seeing my brothers vaporized by harvesters or butchered by the overseers is nothing like the fighting we are used to. But we shall prevail.

Its all about the Creek. The first what, defensive campaign? Our first liberation campaign was Heeth and that was a wild ride to liberate with 12 thousand people. Unforgiving ice planet surrounded by 20+ hellbombs to blow you sky high. Noone complains about the first planet of Heeth. But going to creek was just watching cannon fodder run into gunfire like they were invincible. Creek was bad because noone knew what the he** they were doing. Heeth was how all those who preordered learned to fight. Yet Heeth has been forgotten.

Naww...this isn't a Illuminate version of MC. MC is tragic because we won it over, was counter-attacked and despite our efforts to retain it, was overwhelmed, and abandoned by SE for another MO. Our brothers and sisters on MC died alone, but together.
Some of the hardest fighting I've done since I enlisted. Calypso was The Illuminate Front's Malevelon Creek. I mourn my fallen Brothers and Sisters, but We didn't give ground. Calypso Stands... and The Helldivers are ready for their next deployment.
Honestly, I personally found the Illuminate to be easier to fight than bots overall. I have to imagine a lot of deaths were from newer/less experienced players, as well as from veteran players who simply played pretty careless
I personally found the bots difficulty to be overrated. They are different from the bugs. Bugs are easy to contain and keep at a distance. The bots are stupid and they will never do anything impressive. They will never outflank you and they fires blindly at your last known location before forgetting about you or moving in to investigate you last position. I have to imagine that people that find bots to be "difficult" are people who are not used with games with an enemy that shots back.
Yep have to agree that player spike cant be all returning players sure dont doubth that the squids will become tougher but was six enemy units if you count in the tesla tower but their side objectives are weak the cognitive disruptor is weak sometimes making calling in strategems easier and the obelisk.... Just dont touch it
The thing people don't get about the creek is the ratio. Almost 40 million dead on Calypso, but, over 250,000 Helldivers on the front. The Creek was not the same. The Creek wasn't even comparable. In the beginning of the war, we did not even have the infrastructure to station that many divers in the front. 40-60,000 divers ans we were at capacity, that means statistically on average, during the creek, every super destroyer took on average a thousand casualties each. I reapeat, 1,000 casualties PER super destroy on average. Those of us that made it still carry that weight, just those of us that made it.
I still think the creek was worse purely because everyone was entirely new to the game. Didn't know what guns were good, didn't know what stratagems would be effective, didn't know the controls, etc, etc. Hell, there were even those very, very unlucky low leveled souls. Yeah, we got some of it with calypso, mainly the stratagems and guns part. I did see SOME newgens on illuminates, but not as much as I did the creek. I was there when it fell the first time. Also, Calypso was MADE to be this big event. Malevelon wasn't. That's why it's so beloved by the HD2 community. We gave it meaning. (Also, everyone's acting like a vanguard force is a big deal. Like, obviously a large scale invasion is going to have a LOT of troops in their frontlines. Like, that's the whole point of a vanguard force, to get a lot of troops in there, and deal damage. They're going to have their big units in the vanguard force. I'd be scared if it said SCOUTING force. If this was just scouts? Oh god, oh boy. I just don't get it. Unless I'm wrong. This wasn’t too hard but playing bots is easy af. At dif 6-7 (most played according to devs) squids are much harder, and only get a bit more numbers at 8-10, so they are fs easier at max difficulties
