While listening I thought "When he gets around to making a track for Mother, I assume it'll be a variation of... wait a minute" I forgot what my favorite track was for.
Matricide is what introduced me years ago to the Isaac soundtrack and I thought it was the coolest thing I've ever heard. It still holds a very special place in my heart, but I think I've found a new favorite theme for Mom. EVERYTHING is better with choirs.
I had a dream where you and DM DOKURO (strangely enough) worked together for v4. Among the other songs, you remade Momento Mori, which was kinda now a mix of itself, this, and the mom's heart theme, and it really slapped. I distinctly remember the thumbnail for v4 songs having DM DOKUROs and your logo in a triangle in the bottom right corner (as opposed to where DM usually puts it) and featuring art of Mother in the Corpse. I listen to y'all's music too much
There's something so amazingly climactic about this song, it's as if you made you're way to the main boss, and are ready for your greatest challenge, even though Mom kinda gets overshadowed by every other final boss.
To be fair the Mom fight is pretty difficult for a beginner. When you’re new you’re probably just clinging to the corners of the rooms trying to strafe the enemy tears and knockback the melee hitters. Imagine trying to pull that tactic when facing a boss that covers every wall and spawns monsters in the corners while constantly stomping forcing you to be on the move all the time
Damn 8 months later and I still think this is the pinnacle of a mod soundtrack. It encapsulates everything we fear about Mom while being just as funky and stylish as every other song in the playlist. Once again, brilliant stuff Mudeth.
Mudeth, you Madd ladd! Your album may have only charged $2, but trust me, you have earned the other $18 I tipped my friend. For all of the antibirth soundtrack, not even non-gaming composers provide such value. Thank you my dude.
@@TheLethargicWeirdo985 You know, I used to think the same way. But then I decided back in Antibirth that doing a fresh save file for co-op to experience the Antibirth content would be really fun, I carried that save file forward to Repentance and am still playing co-op Isaac regularly on it, and now I'm thinking of doing a 3rd save file to experience Repetance from a fresh perspective once the next content patch (or two) comes out for it. Just some food for thought.

I love your music, Museth! The Antibirth ost is genuinely one of my favorite video game osts of all time! While the Rebirth ost is good, making every track the musical equivalent of “everyone hates you and is out to kill you”, while fitting, gets old very quickly. You actually diversify the tracks, give them catchy melodies and not make them repetitive. In particular, this track is easily my favorite. Matricide gives the vibe of “alright, you made it this far, the kiddie gloves are officially coming off.” But… that’s really all it sounds like. Just a boss theme for a hard, scary enemy. This song actually feels like after all the abuse and trauma, the dog is finally biting back. Isaac is finally facing his fears and confronting his mom once and for all. This song is both scary and hopeful, angry and tragic. It’s chaotic, yet in a way it feels like now things are finally starting to make sense. It really feels like a duel between a scared, confused little boy and his unhinged mother who’s trying to kill him, and that for once this duel isn’t completely one sided in the latter’s favor. All the while reminding you that even if you manage to make it past mom, even greater horrors await you. All in all, Matricide is a cool song, but I easily prefer this. Oh and also Mudeth, in Vol 4 are you going to make a version of the Ambush theme (the song that plays in challenge rooms and mini boss rooms)?
Damn thanks, that's kind of what my take was too, hence the title. And yea, I am going to make a new track for vol 4. For now it's shared between Boss Trap/Challenge/Boss rush in Afterbirth+ style.
