How did that F register at 1:20? Is it an alternate fretting?

The notation is a cut down version of what he physically played. He played the full barre chord so the notes on the highway were all there and it registers (basically a 6 string version where the highway shows the 4 string version - some people (me included) find doing the full barre more comfortable than the 4 string bit - you can just strum the 4 needed strings). You can't do the open orange string easily that way though which is why he shifted to the notation version straight afterwards.
