@Amay- Zin exactly, watch nomadland. Some are nomads by choice and some are nomads by necessity. I agree that being locked up for a year because of drugs does nobody good except create jobs in the justice system. I also think recreational drug use can become an addiction.
This guy reminds me how addicts are so good at manipulating others and justifying themselves. Here he is talking about how he's got it all together. He is deep, deep in denial.
@@kyla6538 💯. And I've seen people far deeper in denial than he is. I do believe he is taking steps to do better than he was previously. Which still counts for something.
I think it does. Most addicts are intelligent, as you'll note from this channel. They are using to numb the aware mind. This world is not made for intelligent people and it sucks to be one. Dumb people don't need drugs... no thoughts happening anyway (they're on robotic autopilot!) so no need to numb anything. They're happy with whatever they're presented with. Intelligent ones know society sucks and there's not much they can do about it.
@@parisa5014 I disagree. There are plenty of intelligent people who do not need drugs to cope with a shitty world. I know society sucks but drugs don't make it better. Just saw a news headline: Mother overdoses 4 year old daughter found trying to feed 1 yr old brother who died of starvation. So I'm not buying your logic. I agree that mental health is the big issue and is what needs to be addressed.
I completely agree with one thing he says -- no one should EVER be jailed for simply using drugs, any drug. It is an act whose violence/harm goes in the direction of SELF harm. The fact that our jails/prisons are bursting at the seams with non-violent drug offenders, is a travesty.
Been in prison myself, Australia, 1975 - 81. Good educatoin system. The world's best. Failures keep going to prison, for further "education". Prison's job: CREATE MORE PRISONERS!" Good Prison Graduates: "Don't get caught again. Illegal or not; don't get caught!"
@@mihe6212 i agree. There are many many issues associated with drug use. The societal costs are high. It doesn’t just affect the user. They usually have kids who suffer and often are dragged into that life. Families suffer. Don’t ever think that drug use affects no one but the user.
Although you can see that he is in a hit of denial regarding his situation it is soo refreshing to see that he is still a compassionate person and looks to help people.
Many of the commenters on here would do well to listen to what Mark says at 20:06 - "I think a little dignity and respect would go a long way in terms of helping people climb out of this lifestyle."

Every time I hear addicts it sounds like there's a personality disorder that hasn't been discovered. They all have the same symptoms but just self medicate differently. And even when they've stopped the substance of choice, they still sound like they're using when they talk spiritualism or self-help, it's in their neurology to just get hooked on things. Very interesting!
Yep dude I've seen people seriously act like they are addicted to AA meetings, going to 3+ a day, or describe the way they feel about God or the Gym or the twelve steps like it was their drug of choice.. to me personally it helps prove that the drug use is a just a symptom of something going on with that person. I interpreted that as consensual for some reason. No reason to automatically think he meant that as a criminal thing. It sounded like him and a girl got caught together (maybe football field) and got in trouble
AMEN AMEN AMEN. Then add he was then with a young woman, intimating Not his age. He dicks her around for 7 years! Finally agrees to move in together and is mystified why she split.
I gave a homeless woman $2 yesterday. We briefly talked about how McDonald's used to have a dollar menu, but that they no longer did. The light turned green and I was on my way... Later that day when I was walking my dog, I found $2 on the sidewalk. Prayers up, blessings coming down 💓
I wonder what the “incident with a woman” was that he was kicked off of his college campus for. Later on he makes it a point to mention he’s never done anything against anyone’s will and everything he’s done is consensual but you usually don’t get kicked off a campus for something women like or agree to. Could be wrong though.
I honestly figured he was having sex in a public spot. You gotta remember what year it was… my friend got kicked out of Chico State because security thought he smelled like weed in the bathroom so they figured he was smoking pot in there. There’s no such thing as ‘harm reduction’ usage with crack. Crack is highly addictive and if you go down that road it’s almost guaranteed to take over your life. This guys seems so intelligent and kind but a bit delusional about casual crack usage.
There is no such thing as harm reduction with any drug. You are just switching one drug for another which means your addiction is still active. If you can control your drug usage, you're still using drugs and that is not the answer.
Same with gambling. They always try to show you how to control it, but for some people they just let it control their lives. People go into it blindly for the high or the win, but you have to do your research. No one knows how addictive it is. They need to teach the psychology of addiction in school, and the laws against drugs.
@@cindyfitzgerald4500 ...Grambling is something I have *never* cared for..I've never been the type to gamble on anything, haha.. I hope you're doing well,ma'am🙏💜
He's been doing crack for 40 years already, but okay. I don't understand why people say he's jacked. He seems alright to me: Clean, he has a car, still has his mental facilities, he travels around to Rainbow Gathering and sells mushrooms. It's a lifestyle choice.
I really enjoyed this interview. He is an excellent communicator and although I certainly disagree with some of his unconventional ideas, I strongly agree with others. For instance, I don't think possession of drugs for personal use should be punishable by jail time. It just compounds the user's problems and creates criminals out of some (not ALL, okay?) fairly harmless recreational drug users that otherwise function as productive members of society. And the trauma he's talking about from incarceration is real. I spent 60 days in jail one time for a minor offense and they put me in a cell with two men who were accused of murder and had been there for 7 and 10 years and another one who I can't remember what he did, but he was the devil incarnate. If looks could kill, I really would be dead from that one. The thing is, these guys can tell when you're not a career criminal and you're just there because of some fluke of bad luck and they get off on terrorizing you. When you're treated like a farm animal and moved from pen to pen and surrounded by scary violent rage filled people who could kill you with their bare hands 24 hours a day it takes a long time to get back to normal, and if I'm to be truthful I never did. I'm so scared to this day of being locked up I walk 2 blocks to and from the end of my street with COPD in 100 degree heat during the summer every time I leave and return to my home because once a patrol car pulled over and ran my ID through the system for jaywalking. I have no idea why that happened because 200 people cross this street in the middle of the block everyday, but whatever I just don't want the hassle.
He said “ because America has no soul “ “no collective consciousness”. I really didn’t even have to hear him say this to understand he’s so wise but the fact that he did is just like wow. I completely understand how you feel man granted I’m not addicted to crack but I self medicate frequently due to one root cause of the lack of love in the world and in my own world too. My heart hurts daily for everyone and I’ve always prayed for the people out their in the world who never had anyone to pray for them. At least if they had no one they had me. It’s a bitter sweet world to exist in but if I have to suffer in it a little to shed light on it then so be it :). Jesse I don’t know you but I love you man. Like you said you have control & we all do. We just gotta hold onto an share the love as much as we can and I feel like the worlds getting closer to this it just takes time. Because in the end that’s all there’s really room for❤️
On point observation “America”, has no soul and we’ve been feeding our babies to the crack dealer since 1976. Now the new “crack”, dealer is technology our babies are growing up sucking on a IPhone. We don’t care as long as it distracts them long enough for us to work that extra weekend this month. If you asked me the true reason American is cursed is because of systemic racism. You see you can’t have two separate counties called America and think 🤔 the fallout won’t hit your front gate. The sense of community can only be established when we realize we are one ☝🏾 and nothing without the other. Period Poo
As a European when he said America has no collective consciousness i was shocked. Maybe it is not political correct to say this but he just described the country in one sentence.
@Lena Annis And why would we? The simple answer is we’re the new country without a lengthy history time wise and the US *is* “The Great Experiment.” An even simpler answer is it’s not politically expedient to encourage a collective consciousness: Divide and Conquer keeps the people fighting with one another over BS stuff like sexual orientation, immigration (let’s foster some more us vs. them mentality, sigh) skin color, income inequality, “all drugs are bbbaaadddd” etc. Add a huge element of *fear* regularly, like on the daily several times a day from news programs, aka “Infotainment” and it’s quite a feat anyone ever steps out of their 15+ locks on their home’s doors to (gasp!) completely disengage from their “devices” and clear their head so they can be alone with their thoughts and actually *have* a few of their own. I’m not gonna throw that old trope “People are dying every day to get into this country!” atcha-you know that. The Structural Economy and the convulsions it’s now undergoing secondary to technology is no less massive than that which occurred during the Industrial Revolution. Lots of parts here. Yep, we may be a mess right now butcha know what? We have been here in the past (oh have we ever) and we stumbled through it somehow, maybe not gracefully, certainly not equally, without violence or deaths or with impeccable results. That we as a nation, as a people still persist despite it all? There’s the “Collective Consciousness:” Flawed, arguing with each other and *not at all like any other country.* Kids need time to grow the hell up: So do countries.
I love his former rock singer look. Jessie has responded to every tragic episode in her life. He is lucid and very smart about drugs. I hope his book will be published and that people will be able to follow his advice and listen to his experience.
Actually, Harm reduction is the idea that a person does not have to completely stop doing a drug to be able to improve their life. They can make other changes to reduce harm, not necessarily ROA. Harm reduction is usually paired with the “Housing First” concept which is the belief that every person has a right to safe housing and once that person has safe housing, they can begin to making other changes to improve their life. The whole thing is sometimes called Housing First and Harm Reduction Principles. Be safe Also the show he is thinking of around 11:15 is the The Wire

He is spot on about the drug problem. I work for the government doing investigations and see the drug problem. Sending people to prison for doing drugs, is not addressing societies problem whatsoever. Addressing mental health, in patient intensive treatment. Give them something to control cravings and withdrawals, add therapy all day to it. Get them the courage to change the people in their lives if they are a influence that notices drug usage. And check in, lots. But sending people to prison. So fucking Dumb
This guy has ZERO idea what harm reduction is. It's a pretty dangerous to pass along such false info when there are people who will believe what he said. Harm reduction is something like needle exchanges so users don't have to reuse dirty needles. Harm reduction is getting therapy. Harm reduction is clean using sites. There are so many things that are Harm reduction, it is to decrease the risks associated with substance use disorder. Using the same drug in a different manner isn't really harm reduction.
High on crack Street is the HBO show he talks about. It is older show and he talks about it like it's new. When you use drugs, you lose track of time. Your orientation is off. It's like he's stuck in a time capsule. His entire presentation screams that. He should get clean and be a crusade for the homeless. He can be their voice. God Bless him.
Good, honestly as addicts that's what we need. The minute we think we can cheat reality is the minute we think we can just have one and be done, or if we're already using we tell ourselves everything is ok.. when it's really not
The homeless situation is so complicated-so many don't want help and just want to stay high all day, others truly want help and those are the ones I feel for.

The key is the mother , not knowing, may have been emotionally unavailable for whatever reasons. It can cause anxiety. Depression > goes into a domino affect to addictions
Some of what Jessie was saying about harm reduction (HR) @4:00 or so is on point. I learned about it in one of my drug abuse addiction counseling classes and it's a topic that I think is very innovative in breaking down barriers as far as helping people get to treatment if they need or want it, and even helping those who may not be fully addicted or physically dependent on chemicals, but do binge or abuse alcohol and/or drugs and may realize that the life style is starting to have show some negatives in their lives and are interested in not letting the destructive behaviors escalate and get out of hand. However, HR isn't for everyone; if a person is truly alcoholic or an addict, downgrading the drug or amount will not work, so that being said, I see HR as like a form of damage control for those who may still have some control. That's basically it in a nutshell. There's more to it, but that would be a much longer discussion.
This guy is right on the money "America's got no soul!" Boom, enough said. I really appreciate the dialogue with Mark as well about how poverty and lack of opportunity plays into drug use and sales. Jessie is a great voice for those on the inside as well, and love how explicit he is about how traumatizing "being held against your will" can be, and how incarceration is NOT the way to deal with drug use. And, "peruvian love rock"....I cant help but feel sorry for the guy, the drugs got their claws in him big time....

He is right about taking control over your addiction in helping quitting altogether. That was how I got clean. Once I was able to limit myself to certain amounts, weekends, etc, and I was able to take control over the addiction somewhat, it eventually allowed me to fully take control and quit. It probably wouldn't work for everyone, but I know it would work for some, because it worked for me. I found that when I had the expectation and pressure of quitting entirely, I would become overwhelmed and relapse. But when I limited myself, that pressure wasn't there, and it helped me quit in the long run. Best of luck to anyone struggling with addiction. If you haven't already, try what Jesse recommended. Clearly you don't know what it actually is, those are ways to reduce harm. its boils down to having control over your life and not losing more control than what you already have lost.
Example. Instead of Reusing needles, harm reduction is going to get new sterile ones at the local needle exchange

This guy reminds me how addicts are so good at manipulating others and justifying themselves. Here he is talking about how he's got it all together. He is deep, deep in denial.
ALL addicts are in denial. For them to come out of denial would mean they'd stop using, denial is what allows them to continue using.

Intelligence has nothing to do with addiction as witnessed by this interview. Jesse I hope you the very best.

I wonder what the “incident with a woman” was that he was kicked off of his college campus for.
My heart hurts daily for everyone and I’ve always prayed for the people out their in the world who never had anyone to pray for them. At least if they had no one they had me. On point observation
“America”, has no soul and we’ve been feeding our babies to the crack dealer since 1976.
Period Poo
Love is the answer brother. Stay safe out there. We share a lot of views and coping mechanisms.
There’s the “Collective Consciousness:” Flawed, arguing with each other and *not at all like any other country.*
Kids need time to grow the hell up: So do countries.

The key is the mother , not knowing, may have been emotionally unavailable for whatever reasons. It can cause anxiety. Depression > goes into a domino affect to addictions
a lot of marks interviews the person isn't happy where they are at in life, this gentleman seems to be comfortable where he is at.
I think he's a very humble gentleman who knows others have it worse than he does.
The guy is fooling himself, trying to legit his habits..BS
I would love to meet this man one day. He is very wise and has an empathic and creative nature-I am praying for him.
Nobody brings me food. Nobody brings me clothes. I wake up each morning, tie my shoes and go to work.
Quit your belly aching.
@@aaronm.3581Wasn’t “belly aching”. I just don’t expect anything for free.
As do most of us!❤️ This fool does not want pesky things like responsibility, rent or utilities, he loved being a leech couch surfing. He is all about FREE STUFF. He has no clue that there is no such thing as Free. There is only Free to YOU. Someone worked hard to give you the “Free Stuff.” Interesting how most of the viewers liked him. It would be fascinating to see their opinion after he crashed at their house for months and built a hut from wood, mud and straw. Then lectured them on how you have the land, you should share man! “I should be allowed to do any damn thing I want, anywhere, anytime with anyone. I should never be arrested for dealing drugs, no one should.”
The squatters he is so jazzed about and who will create a new way to be in America? Snort. Spit take. 1 compost toilet and 1 shower for 500 people, is a health hazard and sanitation issue. The fire risk is immense. They feel entitled to be there, but it is not their land. Hey, but they have a pizza oven and an open mike so it’s all good! Woot! Paaaertaaay!!! 🍄🍄🍄
Be grateful for that. Being able to take care and count on yourself. You can get your own food and clothes. One day, if you live long enough, you'll need some help. Hopefully, someone brings you food and clothes then. 🤞
@@gwennk4962 You’re comparing apples to oranges.
this guy looks like hell and says his addiction is benign...lots of denial
I like Jessie. He seems nice, He has nice hair. Jessie is gone though...
Gone?
@@kimmead3683 Gone as in...in bad shape with that addiction. It’s not generally meant to be derogatory.
@@heidiho5179 First of all , gone means dead in most scenarios but even in the context ur using it, Jessie is so far from gone. For an addict thats been through so much he seems very well put together.
Yes, he has a magnificent head of hair.
@@kimmead3683 yes gone. He’s not the same person that he used to be. He is now not Productive, useful, respected, ambitious. He is gone!
He sure does "crack" himself up...
All these homeless men looked like burned out rockstars or popstars even
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👌💯 or maybe, it's the other way around? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
They are not very different from each other. Music is a useless skill if you can't generate money from it. I've been playing since I was 6. First gig at 8. Never made enough money from it that I didn't have to have a real job too.
@@shreddykrueger3776 oh they are very different from each other one has money drugs and women, the other just has the drugs many some women
@@icemaiden6000 no all the men where I’m from look like this, one had a fur coat on him I don’t know where he got it from but he totally looked the part
Jessie seems to be such a sweet soul, he's aware of so many things, speaks intelligently, very interesting person with lots of potential. I hope you get the drugs even more under control and bring even more joy to this world and to your own life. Much Love and all the best.
Regardless of all set backs, he's a very clever man.
can you do me a commission
And you, a very naive woman!
Lmao, none of these drug addicts are smart. If they were smart, theyd never touch it in the first place.
Shit, I thought it was a woman.

He was on an episode of judge Mathis. He told the judge he just uses weed and shrooms instead of crack now.

@@robertkarol7200 I don't have it unfortunately. I will keep an eye out though.
Have you ran into Rebecca by chance? I miss seeing her videos and it’s been a minute since you’ve spoken with her. Would love an update.
I agree! I hope all is well with her, she has a place in a lot of people's hearts I think.
Wasn't so sure about Jessie at first, but turned into a good interview. Thank you.
I met this guy at The Bounce festival in 2013. He was nice when he wasn't totally off his rocker.
he’s talking about the show “the wire”. great show !
ua-cam.com/video/YEla0gqxzpk/v-deo.html at 3:05 is the scene he's an extra in. He's back in the alley. Can't miss the hair.
@@raasbeng the corner came before but was 6 episodes and not a hit show. It also didn't show the drug dealer side as much as the customers. He was on the wire and I found his scene if you are interested
He’s talking about the series
“The Corner.”
Shreddy Krueger no that’s not him. giving head
Brenda Murray it’s the wore. he said a very popular show and it
was i think six seasons. it hd both the cops the political and the perps perspective
It worked for me.
I have been a festival vendor for many years and worked production at music festivals as well - his story is one of many… especially the old schoolers
“There’s a wild renegade homeless encampment in Oakland”
Mark: hand me my keys
But in all seriousness what he said about prison trauma and black men not wanting to be indoors is actually a real thing, he touched on quite a few great things actually.
FINALLY SOMEONE TALKING ABOUT COMMUNITY AND POSITIVE THINGS.... Not just talking about themselves and the past. Be here now. Build.
Harm reduction is typically doing the drug safer. I.E. clean needles, testing your drugs, etc
Not snorting heroin instead of shooting it, lol. That's just a different ROA
Snorting heroin is definitely harm reduction when comparing it to shooting it.
Marc...
Your Interviews are so loving and full of respect. Tanks for you work
Jessie is obviously a very intelligent man. It hurts my heart to see him hurt.
What a head of hair! Baltimore is no joke. He’s a great story teller, maybe I’m a fool but it feels more honest than many others. Even his laugh to himself
