I grew up with kids like Chris. Their dads were doctors, lawyers and such. Some got back on track like Chris. I really like this guy. He got it together and helped others do the same. Bravo Mark and Chris. I love this interview. Reward is sweet!
Where I come from, kids tried so hard not to go down that road, because one wrong decision could level your whole existence. I couldn’t relate to people with privilege to spare. But now, having made my mistakes and been humbled, I’ve seen that there is no amount of money drugs can’t take from you. Addictions (and other health problems) are the great equalizer! Some do get more chances, but everyone runs out, at some point. Was that Dave Chappelle who said they should have given Caesar some crack? Being in long term recovery, I think that helping people to envision and create their new lives is the most exciting part of the movement. He is helping people do this!
Man, I love this guy. He is the kind of guy we need in drug counseling programs! I feel like he could reach soooo many? I hope he can carry on with his contribution to society and all of us that have been in his shoes but not strong enough to pull our heads out of our asses. There may be one or two people out there that are moved enough by his words to actually make the difficult decision to QUIT...

He seems not that bad. Atleast he can communicate his problems. I on the other hand have so many issues that I don’t ever think I’m going to be happy and content. It’s the loneliness and having no one to talk to that’s made me finally cracked me. Now I’m a babbling mess that does nothing. I wish I could be put out of my misery. To sit in a chair and TO KNOW THAT THE TOMORROW’S ARE GOING TO STOP………..That is a dream to me.

A lot of those years are incredibly hard to make it through and many people dont beat it. If you think for a second you havent lived because of lack of struggle or addiction please get that out of your head because that isnt living.
Yah know, for someone who has taken high powered drugs most of his life, including synthetic, his brain is clicking a lot faster than mine does at 60. He has great recall. It is amazing how much some bodies can take. What a great story.
It's genetic. One person's mind gets absolutely destroyed and another person still has a good memory / intellect and both are dabbling in the same kind and amount of drugs.
We used to say "some swim in it" back in my business days. Some people were almost genetically destined to mass consume certain things. Like one dude does a little and their life goes to shit. Another goes of the chart and simply stays solid decade after decade. I could do any drug and my life didn't go down the toilette until I got clean to keep my parents happy XD
Respect to Chris’ father. The moment he saw his son was using was the moment he committed to never touching drugs again. That’s real love and willpower.
Yea when I heard that I said the same .. much respect to that man. My father was a heavy alcoholic until my birth in 86 he never drank after and I never really asked him why. As I grew up he and my mother smoked pot often but eventually a big hiccup between my mom and dad occurred and that’s when I was tired of the fights between mom and pops . Pops always worked 2 jobs to provide a roof over my head so I never judged him. But at 18 I moved out and been on my own since then.. I wish I had the strength as my father did . To this day I battle with addiction and don’t know how much longer I can remain sane . I wish I had strength like my pops though.

I kept finding myself trying to pre-judge this guy at first: rich kid, Mom worked FBI so he had it made, arrested 5 times in 6 months means family with money and spoiled brat .. but as I kept watching I grew to appreciate him and slapped myself for thinking so negative about him. I do hope to meet him and his wife next time I'm back in LA. He is doing a great thing telling his story and giving hope that being sober can be a good thing.
He wasn’t rich by any means. You don’t get rich working in the FBI office. And no father. Because most of the people Mark interviews have zero home life , anyone who has a parent with a job seems “rich “ to you folks.
You judge regardless. Whether your opinion of him is good or bad. The real deluded ones are those that give him praise based on the same information some who may not give a favorable opinion.
I’ve recently learned something that may help you. I also found myself always thinking the worst from people (probably due to my parents who still to this day do it), try thinking positively about them instead. It just helps you have a more positive look on life overall, which will lead to you living longer. If they fail your expectations, it’s no biggie. Just process the disappointment and move on with your life.

I also became involved with hard drugs in high school. I droppes out with a B average half way thru my senior year. Got clean made a life then lost my wife to pain meds. Then I got back on to pain pills here in Fl in 2008 . I got in too deep , lost every thing in my 30'. Jail many times from 33 to 39. Now I am clean and have been for 4 + years. People can get their lifes back. I am glad you have found your way.

Desperation is a gift but I think we need to retire the "rock bottom" stuff. In a country with resources, your friends/family really don't need to hit rock bottom. "Rock bottom" can be very literal.
First of all this is my husband’s phone. At first I thought he was boasting and I knew people like him. I totally didn’t like him. So happy I didn’t click off and he’s definitely a legend. So happy he’s good and helping others. Most of the interviews are heartbreaking and truly ~ I 100 percent didn’t even have a clue about their lifestyles, prior to this amazing channel. I hope it shows people that there is absolutely a chance to be helped. Please don’t come for me I never comment, but it moved me.

Over 20 years clean, it took me so many tries. My desire to move forward and passion for something helped me. People that use are trying to fill a void ... I never was involved in a 12 step program, too ashamed to talk to others about it. Knowing others believe in me also helped. Anyone reading that is still in the void ... you can get out of it. It's about your confidence and belief in yourself.
Not everybody. I know lots of people who were totally mentally well and used drugs many times and never got addicted. Just because you know people who are a certain way doesn't mean that's the way it is for "everybody". Sometimes people just wanna get high. You wouldn't say that about people who drink alcohol because somehow our society separates alcohol from "drugs" even though it's one of the worst drugs for you.
Having a 20 year old sister who passed away from a heroine overdose laced with fentanyl, this interview touches close to home. I love hearing recovery stories and imagining the amazing life my sister could’ve lived 💛 your strength is amazing Chris!
The Why’s!!! i think the most important that Chris said is that his Dad got sober. He was a coke userand dealer and when he found out Chris was using "he quit and never touched the stuff again." Chris had an example of sobritety in his life! And seemingly, no major traumas. These are 2 major gifts that I believe paved the way for his own sobriety. Plus the tattooing, discovering his own gifts, gave him a reason to live and go for it. Overall he seems like a super personable, laid back, and now wise dude. Congrats on 4 years Chris! Happy for you and thanks for sharing your story!

Doesnt mean there isnt brain damage, for sure decades of cocaine, heroin and benzos will permanently alter your brain, but that doesnt mean you cant quit and be functional still
Well he started at 12 so nobody knows what he would've been like otherwise. You can't just listen to someone talk for 20 min and determine if they have brain damage or not lol. Everybody has brain damage to some extent, everybody's been hit really hard in the head before. If you've had a concussion you probably have brain damage. I know for sure I have changed my brain from drug use when I was a teenager but you wouldn't look at me and think I have brain damage. And brain damage can be emotional too not just being slow/stupid. I guarantee he has really bad depression or something there's no way you use that many drugs for that long without changing something. I only used drugs for like 7 years and feel like it's affected me so imagine him with 10 years and probably doing way more shit than me, though I've done all the drugs he's done I didn't do them in high doses.

This was a really good one right here cuz usually its him telling the story while hes still in addiction(while I enjoy those just as much but saying this one was good cuz i never really watch the interviews w the dudes who already been thru it and now are clean..im at that point where i just am ready!luckily i never used needles but yeah just wanting so much more and ive had it and can have it butjust wanna be able to wake up and feel healthy and just that would make me very happy!

Over 20 years clean, it took me so many tries. My desire to move forward and passion for something helped me. People that use are trying to fill a void ... I never was involved in a 12 step program, too ashamed to talk to others about it. Knowing others believe in me also helped. Anyone reading that is still in the void ... you can get out of it. It's about your confidence and belief in yourself.
Not everybody. I know lots of people who were totally mentally well and used drugs many times and never got addicted. Just because you know people who are a certain way doesn't mean that's the way it is for "everybody". Sometimes people just wanna get high. You wouldn't say that about people who drink alcohol because somehow our society separates alcohol from "drugs" even though it's one of the worst drugs for you.

i think the most important that Chris said is that his Dad got sober. He was a coke userand dealer and when he found out Chris was using "he quit and never touched the stuff again." Chris had an example of sobritety in his life! And seemingly, no major traumas. These are 2 major gifts that I believe paved the way for his own sobriety. Plus the tattooing, discovering his own gifts, gave him a reason to live and go for it. Overall he seems like a super personable, laid back, and now wise dude. Congrats on 4 years Chris! Happy for you and thanks for sharing your story!
I think you dad marrying the neighbor and continuing to live nextdoor would hit me as trauma.

When he was telling his story of living on the sail boat he was self soothing a lot. It seems like the tattoo inspiration was going really well and his demons came back to resurface.

This guy survived. If his stories are true, he really made it out with no brain damage he’s fully coherent.
Doesnt mean there isnt brain damage, for sure decades of cocaine, heroin and benzos will permanently alter your brain, but that doesnt mean you cant quit and be functional still
Well he started at 12 so nobody knows what he would've been like otherwise. You can't just listen to someone talk for 20 min and determine if they have brain damage or not lol. Everybody has brain damage to some extent, everybody's been hit really hard in the head before. If you've had a concussion you probably have brain damage.
I know for sure I have changed my brain from drug use when I was a teenager but you wouldn't look at me and think I have brain damage. And brain damage can be emotional too not just being slow/stupid. I guarantee he has really bad depression or something there's no way you use that many drugs for that long without changing something. I only used drugs for like 7 years and feel like it's affected me so imagine him with 10 years and probably doing way more shit than me, though I've done all the drugs he's done I didn't do them in high doses.
the damage from prolonged drug use is sometimes subtle... he can't sit still for two seconds 😉

@@DELL.ACNT. yep he is .. as a person who overdosed myself the aftermath was suttle unless you knew me. but the damage is done.i feel very little in the way of excitement or joy is the best i can describe, better than dead i suppose
