- It's been around 12 long months since I started building my double canoe! Way too long! In this plywood boatbuilding video, we'll be working on a hatch combing for Skimmer. This is an important part of building a Plywood Catamaran, and can often be the most challenging part of the project.
By the end of this video, you'll be able to build a hatch combing for your own Plywood Catamaran! This video is meant to be a tutorial, so if you have any questions, please let us know in the comments. We hope you enjoy it!
This is my new boat building project where I'll be building a 20ft Gary Dierking double Tamanu catamaran in my garage.
Some very (very!) kind people have asked how they can contribute to the project, here's how...

Looking good!
Thanks!
Such an interesting build Aaron. I like how you factored in the swag, most boats don’t have that kind of bulk storage. Best wishes for the ongoing project.
Thanks Josh, bulk storage is great as long as it isn’t overused! Looks like you guys had a great turnout on the weekend.
That’s excellent Aaron. Obviously you got some rain down there.
On the swag, I honestly hadn’t even considered a swag, just thinking that a cheap tarp or old repurposed tip stop tent for a boom tent was the way to go. Obviously for a quick snooze the swag has a lot going for it, but I kinda like the cooking under cover and a bit of privacy perhaps like Paul or Roger Barnes do, but you’re still young. Lol
Thanks Col, don’t worry there’s definitely going to be a boom tent onboard! No one likes sitting out in the rain, especially on a boat!
Nice, Aaron, love the build, but us American blokes prefer beer instead of wine when we are boat building, Lol. I can’t remember from your earlier Skimmer videos, are you building from a set of plans or is this your own design?
It was a cold night so the red wine was going down better than the beer! But don’t worry there’ll be plenty of beer on board in summer 🤙🤙
The hull shape is from Gary Dierkings Tamanu outrigger canoe design.
