I'm a 59 year old metal songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. I regret that I waited 2 years after hearing GIVE ME CHOCOLATE to dig deeper into BABYMETAL. This is, bar none, my favorite band ever. BABYMETAL is like 60 genius songs deep now, not to mention multiple performances and versions. Kitsune dao!
you shouldn't have went to sleep on BABYMETAL Jeffrey, they just kept getting better and now they are beautiful ladies rockin this undeserving world... welcome back to BABYMETAL
BABYMETAL are great! When I first listened to L&D I wasn't really impressed but now I reaaaallllly like this song, especially in the context of the album.
BabyMetal began in 2010 there were Suzuka age 12 Moa Kikuchi and Yui Mizuno (Yui left in 2018 due to health reasons). Both Moa and Yui were only 10 when the group began. All three were friends and classmates who attended an idol school (Sakura Gakuin) founded in 2010 by Amuse Talent Agency for girls 10 to 15. Themed around school life the girls would learn and train to be idols and graduate at age 15 to move onto whatever entertainment path they chose. Key Kobayashi was a music producer for Amuse and heard Suzuka sing at age 9 and was impressed with her strong vocals and stage presence. Kobayashi was a fan of heavy metal but believed that the genre had become stale and tired (especially in Japan) with metal bands getting old Kobayashi believed the genre needed to be reborn (BabyMetal means the birth of a new metal genre). Kobayashi felt that Suzuka had the ability to front a metal band and that her vocals and presence could withstand the metal guitars and drums. The fusion of Jpop and Metal began. He placed Moa and Yui as backup singers/dancers and a phenomenon was about to result. At first Amuse showed no interest and the girls had only financing from Kobayashi. They performed at strip malls and small venues using clothes borrowed from friends and family. No money for a real band they had friends dressed in homemade skeleton costumes pretending to play instruments to a backtrack. They became a sensation (these young ladies paid their dues) and Amuse saw the potential and in 2012 hired the best session musicians Japan had to offer (The Kami Band) who tours with them today (now includes world class musicians from the USA for tours outside of Asia). Suggest reacting to BabyMetal LIVE as this is where they shine. They have over 50 LIVE songs/performances and each one is different. They are fearless exploring many genres and have the respect of the legends of Metal such as Metallica, Slipknot, Rob Zombie, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Judas Priest and more. Suggest reacting to these for a start. Karate LIVE at 2016 Download Festival in the UK where 60,000+ British metal heads sing along with the girls. Road of Resistance LIVE in Japan Megitsune LIVE Catch Me If You Can LIVE with Kami Band intro It is rumored that in their April 1 concert in Yokohama that a permanent third member will be announced (odds on favorite is Momoko Okasaka who is also a graduate of Sakura Gakuin and has been appearing with them LIVE since 2019). The new album in my opinion is amazing with so many different styles. Good luck and hope to see you again.
Oh if you only ever heard Gimme Chocolate, you are in for a treat! They like to explore a lot of different sounds, and do all kind of mixes, so you can find Thrash, Power Metal, Rap Metal, Edm, Dubstep, Progressive Metal, Death and Black Metal, Ska, Raggae, Pyrate Metal, Bollywood metal and even more :D Light and Darkness is one of the poppiest tracks of their latest album, The Other One, with strong EDM vibes. They just released the single Mirror Mirror that's a really interesting song :)
Dude, if the last thing you knew about Babymetal was Gimme Chocolate, you missed out on a Decade of growth and maturing of one the Top International Touring Groups on the World Heavy Metal scene today!! There last album in 2019 hit #1 in the USA on Billboard's "Top Rock Album" chart and there newest album, "The Other One"(which this song is on) just dropped on Friday! Yous gots some catch'n ups to do Son!! LoL!! More Babymetal Always!! Put your Kitsune UP!! Po!
Welcome back to BabyMetal's metalverse 🦊🤘🌐 Oh boy, you lost so much fun after hearing only Gimme Chocolate! I mean isn't a bad song and is the most viewed for a reason, but they got a lot of hidden gems and blaster songs you don't wanna miss, I'm gonna leave a suggestion where to get those clips in my next comment, meanwhile here's some basic info for you to remember about this group: BabyMetal is a Japanese metal dance unit created in 2010 under another Jpop/Jrock group called Sakura Gakuin, they had 11 and 12 years old and become independent after 2013, they created their own genre called kawaii-metal (kawaii means cute), mixing Jpop with metal sound and different subgenres along with many more rhythms, they are: *SuMetal* lead vocalist, now 25 *MoaMetal* scream and dance, now 23. *YuiMetal* scream and dance, former member since 2018. None of them are related. After that year you'll see backup dancers performing along with them but none of them sing or have mic, they only dance, but that may change next month since they announced a new official member is coming. Glad to see more BM fans and reactors are back and enjoying this new BM sound not so many people are getting what is all about, and complaining about not being so heavy and whatnot. For me L&D is another great pop rock ballad with beautiful SuMetal vocals piercing into our hearts. Love the J-pop sound from 2000 and the nostalgic vibes mixed with the edm sound. Here's some official info about this song: _"One of the discovered 10 parallel worlds is "LIGHT AND DARKNESS" and this 4th pre-release digital single “Light and Darkness” centers around this theme. Because light exists, darkness also exists._ _And because darkness is present, there is also a world that shines._ _During the night when light and darkness intersect, what we seek after poisoned with darkness awaits a world filled with strong love. As the door opens, is it hope or despair that awaits us? The song expresses the duality in everything and the way things are perceived and interpreted differ depending on each person’s point of view."_ This was a world premiere at Makuhari Messe 2023 setlist, along with "THE LEGEND", Momoko Okazaki is the third backup dancer performing here and possibly the new official member. MoaMetal once again adding the backing vocals and all of them dancing with the full trio formation. Another note, this clip is a live video with studio album sound, a full live version of this is already out but I'm gonna let you know where you can get that clip safe to react later coz I'm pretty sure it'll give copyright blocked issues if you don't take precautions by putting some filters. The new album and new single after this called Mirror Mirror is already out, so enjoy all of them if you want, so far no one is having any copyright blocked issues. Here's the lyrics translated with some help. Thanks for sharing this. See you next time 🦊🤘🔥 Lyrics : MK-METAL / TAKEMETAL Music : TAKEMETAL Arrangement : tatsuoMETAL [Lyrics] Even the reality buried in the snow of sadness Even these hands that have been dyed red by mistakes Take me to oblivion To an ideal world filled with love Open that door Come on Ah, Ah Being poisoned, falling into a dream A night where light and darkness seek and play together Drowning in a sea of rhythm Even my memories are being destroyed This love is strong and strong I'm sure it won't stop This love is strong and strong Never let go Let me out. Let me out. let's jump out hit by the rain of joy Let me go. Let me go. Right now Let's dance the night away Take me to oblivion Take off the mask filled with lies Right now Being poisoned, falling into a dream A night where light and darkness seek and play together Drowning in a sea of rhythm Even my memories are being destroyed This love is strong and strong I'm sure it won't stop This love is strong and strong Never let go In the night when sorrow overflows Keep this love warm Open the door now Come on Ah, Ah Even my dreams are poisoned A night where hope and despair seek and play together Ring out forever Even my heart is filled This love is strong and strong I'm sure it won't stop This love is strong and strong Never let go
@@JeffreyHackReacts Apparently my comment with those suggestions was deleted by YT, I'm gonna leave another suggestion where to get the live sound version of this song, which is probably safe to react.
Thanks from Japan 有難う💛。 "Difference" and "Diversity" is another name of BABYMETAL. Especially in the new concept album has an underlying story to be told whether explicitly or implicitly and 10 songs therein must tell us 10 different chapters in the story. As an eyewitness at the venue on Jan. 28/29, I guarantee that the real live audio with Kami Band had more power and heaviness to stir your feelings. (This studio audio is good, too though) High and low undulation of Su's voice with maturity and sharp moves by Moa and Momoko disordered my emotions 😱. Although I was too mesmerized to digest everything at the live debut, I finally grasped its artistry as a whole by this MV. (Kami Band was on the east stage that was not captured in this MV) I can't to wait see the live performance of this song again in two-day shows this weekend in Yokohama 😍.
Great first reaction, thanks and welcome to BABYMETAL. Yeah, this one has nothing to do with "Gimme Chocolate" haha... That was a fun song and it was intended to produce the bigger WTF reaction possible, and it succeeded. But to be fair, they also have many great early songs. They like to mix any music genre with any metal subgenre... and sometimes several of them in one song. I'm conflicted right now because I don't know if I should suggest you some newer or older stuff. So here are both: "Mirror Mirror" (newer) and "Megitsune" (older). Until next time!
Glad you liked the video! I'll be getting around to more Babymetal songs eventually 😊 I have a big UA-cam audience who appreciate many enjoyable genres.
Actually... He made an interesting point/contrast. While this song is Pop mixed with metal, I'd also say that Gimmie Chocolate is the inverse. So it is Metal mixed with Pop. So in some really weird distant way, they are KINDA related... just not in the way one would think. Just related in that they have similar genres mixed, just with the opposite emphasis'. Jeffery, nice reaction, hopefully you'll explore more Babymetal now, Gimmie Chocolate isn't quite a song I'd recommend as a first song normally. It's more of a shock value song really. I'd recommend live over music videos whenever possible however as that is where Babymetal shines brightest. Also, I'd recommend maybe checking out Headbanger, Megitsune, Karate, and Road of Resistance as good starting points.
Great first reaction and welcome to the BABYMETAL Foxhole.🦊In the 12 years since they started they have produced about 60 songs ('Gimme Chocolate' was about 9 years ago) every one of them is somebody's favourite ... each song is different to the last. 'Light and Darkness' is a long way towards the pop end of the BABYMETAL sliding scale, some are good hard metal and they do everything in between. They have songs in virtually every metal genre but will mix so many other musical styles and genres in with the metal - usually when you least expect it. It will be interesting watching you discover more of their songs - just remember to expect the unexpected ... and ideal always look for good live performances, that is where they always shine brightest (not dismissing the official videos which are all good, but they are first and foremost a live performance act).
At the end you called out the harmony alongside the lead. This is fairly common in Babymetal music, especially a studio track like we hear in this. Those harmonies are most often also recorded by Su- but plenty of examples where they are done by Moa. They will also sometimes be used on the live performance backing as a sweetening track. But generally at a live we get to hear straight up Su-metal doing the lead clean.
Damn if you know only Gimme Chocolate then you have a lot to catch up to :D Gimme Chocolate is only so popular because of the WTF moment it has but it's not really representive to their other music.
Really did enjoy your reaction. And if you've gone from "Gimme Chocolate" to this in one leap I think you're more than over due for checking out where Babymetal is now. Personally I recommend the live videos. Their music videos are always amazing and so well done. That said for the full emotional punch that BM delivers there is nothing like seeing them live.
Every song from BABYMETAL is different, always a mix of metal and pop but differnet subgenres of both. This latest album especially is quite the journey through genres. They also have a great catalogue of songs from the last 12+ years and now four albums. I hope you check out some more from them!
Different than Gimme Chocolate? Yes it is. Their songwriting is very versatile. All three ladies dance. The main vocalist (Suzuka Nakamoto alias SU-METAL alias Su) is an excellent dancer. Only she can hardly dance while singing. In other songs, she dances more than she does in this one. This is not exactly a music video. It combines studio audio with live footage recorded January 2023. 15.000 attendance. Sold out, of course.

Oh man you have missed lot from these girls, I hope you do more because you did a really good job on this, so good that I'm subscribing.😊 Here's hoping for more Babymetal videos! 🤘🦊🤘(you'll get the fox thing later)
@Jeffrey Hack Music ok. Recommend Lovebites holy war live 2020 or Shadowmaker MV re-released 10mos. They are all female J-Metal band who sing in English and shred as good as anyone. Influenced by 80s metal (Priest, Maiden, Metallica, etc) / NWOBHM. Insanely talented...I'm talking GOD level. It's my favorite band of all time, and I've been listening to metal for 35 years. 🤘

[Lyrics]
Even the reality buried in the snow of sadness
Even these hands that have been dyed red by mistakes
Take me to oblivion
To an ideal world filled with love
Open that door
Come on Ah, Ah
Being poisoned, falling into a dream
A night where light and darkness seek and play together
Drowning in a sea of rhythm
Even my memories are being destroyed
This love is strong and strong
I'm sure it won't stop
This love is strong and strong
Never let go
Let me out. Let me out.
let's jump out
hit by the rain of joy
Let me go. Let me go.
Right now
Let's dance the night away
Take me to oblivion
Take off the mask filled with lies
Right now
Being poisoned, falling into a dream
A night where light and darkness seek and play together
Drowning in a sea of rhythm
Even my memories are being destroyed
This love is strong and strong
I'm sure it won't stop
This love is strong and strong
Never let go
In the night when sorrow overflows
Keep this love warm
Open the door now
Come on Ah, Ah
Even my dreams are poisoned
A night where hope and despair seek and play together
Ring out forever
Even my heart is filled
This love is strong and strong
I'm sure it won't stop
This love is strong and strong
Never let go
