My family came from Overalbin Germany in 1738 into Lancaster then down the great Wagon Rd to the Trading Ford crossing on the Yadkin River in Lexington, NC and purchased 932 acres on the Yadkin River.
Scots Irish did not come from the Highlands. They were from a distinctly different culture in the borders and the natives did not pioneer the roads, migrating buffalo or something that existed before did. These are the paths of least resistance. I am a field geologist with interests in history. There are almost no abandoned through roads in the central Atlantic Region. They are still in use!
