Love a good Deluxe! Nice demo, thanks, Shane!
Just blew the original speaker on my 1977 Deluxe Reverb and replacing it with the Neo. Thanks for posting this video!
That is a great speaker for these amps. Great video!
Part of the hissing in the 68 CDR comes from having the volume up of the channel you're not using. Turning it down to zero significantly reduces hiss.
I swapped out a couple preamp tubes and mine is completely silent. It was almost unusable when I got it
@@Flat_Stanley What tubes did you get?
@@notanthony_c I kept all but two of the JJ’s. There were two that were bad and causing all the noise and they were replaced with a vintage Mullard in v2 and a vintage RCA in v6. Also, the very minimal amount of floor noise that existed after the tube swap went away after 10 or so hours of playing.
@@Flat_Stanley good stuff, thanks for the feedback!
I’ve loved the ‘68 silverface Princeton since your video with dr Rick back in the day, I’ve had one in my rig from the day after that video came out! Loved the vid bro!
Really digging those clean tones!
Many Thanks! Always practical, always helpful as I consider a purchase.
sounds cool! I really like that Neo
Another great review Shane! I would love to see you do a review of the new Fender Tone Master Twin or Deluxe Reverb. They seem like one of the most interesting advances in amps in a while! Thanks again for all the videos!
That sounded awesome. Thanks!
I’ve always been torn between the ‘65 and ‘68 Deluxe Reverb and since I don’t have endless funds to buy every piece of gear I lust for, it’s been agonizing deciding between the two. This amp just made the choice for me!!!! Classic Fender tones as well as having the reverb and tremolo available on both channels was the deciding factor for me. All I need now is money!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Great chops Shane!!!! Cheers!! 🎸🎸🎸🎸🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾
Jamal Kareem I own the original version of this amp and it sounds like heavens. You’ll not regret getting it!! The amp really starts to come alive at 4.5ish volume which is plenty loud though! It sounds great at low volumes and with pedals anyways
Leonardo Torres Thanks!!! I’ve always envision using this amp with as few pedals as possible so I think it will definitely work for what I want. Appreciate you sharing your experience!!🎸🎸🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾
Jamal just curious if you could only have 1 guitar and 1 amp what would it be. I know this will be a tough question.
Guitar Ocd To be honest, I think I already have both!!! I love my Marshall Vintage Modern combo and my Number One is my Fender Custom Shop 1969 Strat.
Sweet. Time to Google vintage modern combo.
The Tele into the amp was beautiful! Great demo and great playing as usual :)
Thanks, Andrzej!
Cream back is such a versatile speaker. I've swapped out all my speakers for CB G12Ms
Bought one of these 68 Custom Deluxe Reverbs last spring (w the Celestion V Type in it) and its a rock n roll machine. I'd been on the hunt for a 20 wattish JTM45/Bluesbreaker-esq combo and the custom channel with the 6V6s into the celestion nails it better than any of the el84 circuits out there IMO. And of course you have all the fendery tones as well. Can't recommend enough.
Man, you're so right. I just bought this amp, and I'm stunned by how misunderstood the custom channel is in UA-cam land. It's fantastic sounding! I probably use it the most. A LP into a Tumnus, or BD-2, or pick your favorite OD pedal (jhs bonsai! ) and I get classic rock tones galore! ZZ Top, Free, Hendrix, pick your poison and your guitar, adjust tone knobs as desired and Rock Out! Love this amp!
Nice playing dude
Love mine stock. Would be too easy for me to go down the speaker rabbit-hole! I do appreciate you making this video Shane. Can never learn too much! Lol
I use the Neo Vintage in a Blackstar HT20MkII, absolutely love the quick fat tone and tight bottom the Neo's have...
I bought this one last june. It's a killer amp. The custom channel has got the bassman tonestack. I'm stuck there. Great reverb, superb trem even if I wish it could go slower. The creamback speaker is smooth and light. This baby loves any kind of pedal.
Any updates?
I own this amp and love it...
My Dude, killer opening riff. You could have just kept going on with that. Great tone and depth.
I have the 65, it never breaks up really on its own
Great video ! Mine is ordered and to be received next week ! I'll let you know how it goes ;-) cheers !
Not a Fender amp fan, but this one sounded rather good, especially for da blues. Good review!
Gorgeous sound on cleans - Celestion 12" speakers are without doubt awesome in any amp but in Fenders in particular they add a warmth that is otherwise lacking.
Yeah Jens & Ems are crappy! (NOT that keen on Celestions either but, they do a BETTER job than the other 2!)
4:29 - My favorite part! 🙂 🎶
I actually got this over Black Friday with the neo speaker was going in for the regular one but this was what was on the shelf and was that much better!
That said I love both channels on 5 plus getting it cooking but boy that’s loud. Any recommendations for a decent budget attenuators to run between the amp and speaker or would getting someone to mod a master volume be the way to go?
Just ordered à creamback for my blues deluxe
I have a September 18th 2020 model and it is really quiet. Though I did have to change V1 and V3 tubes because they were microphonic. But no biggie.
Trust me, they have NOT fixed the hiss in this amp! I just bought a brand new one here in 2024, and it loves to hiss at me! I knew that going in however and still bought it because of the sound! Glorious Fender silverface sounds! Both channels are great sounding and just a little different from each other. I feel like the custom channel really nails that classic rock of the 70s and early 80s better than the vintage side, but that's debatable. It is based on a Bassman circuit, which was the base circuit of an early Marshall jtm. I kinda wonder if Fender didn't copy that jtm circuit for this custom channel? They say the custom channel is based on the bassman tone stack. So was an early Marshall. Curious?
It might sound crazy, but my 68 Princeton Custom stopped hissing after I put tin foil under the plastic enclosure of the foot switch. Thanks for the video!
Interesting. Thanks for the tip. I might try that.
I really like the sound of the Neo Creamback speaker. But I also really dig the sound of the G12 Century Vintage Neo speaker as well.Question is. How well do you think they would sound paired in a 2x12 cab?
The Neo Creamback is just about the best speaker going around for combos- I use them in Fenders and Marshall amps
Nice vidéo, with classic 68 DR réissue, what you advice between standard and this version neo celestion ? And it the only différence with standard version?
Typo in skymusic website address in the description.
Im really thinking about putting a neo creamback in my bassbreaker 30r
Hi Shane, love your demos! This amp sounds great, thinking of getting one but my question is, since you have the blues deluxe (another amp I'm considering) why haven't you replaced your BD with one of the deluxes? Any considerations for a prospective buyer?
I owned two deluxe reverbs for years but I ended up keeping the Blues Deluxe because it's a lot louder and has more clean headroom.
That was pure heaven!!! 😁
Hey Shane, any thoughts on the Vibrolux reiisue?
Ok Shane, When are we going to hear you testing out the New Fender ToneMaster amps?? I am hoping that they will come out with a '65 Super Reverb :) Greetings from Georgetown Ontario Canada... Michael.
Yeah, how about a link for those of us who live in Canada, eh? And I think I heard some shades of Dire Straits in your playing. ;)
They just have😁
Thanks Shane...i just bought the 68 custum and i love it real tube sound
You have to put the bass at 3 and the treble at 7, that is the sweet spot. It actually gets bassier at 1 than at 3 for some reason.
Yes! Found the same with a Celestion Vintage G12 Neo. I was shocked at that but like it. Bass was always on 8 and treble on 3 with the stock speaker.
That tone is amazing. Sounds sweeter than my 68. Is this a mod that anyone can do or does it require that the tubes are re-biased? I'm thinking that I would love to get this speaker into mine. Great review Shane as always.
Chris Jones changing a speaker does not require any mods, nor does it require the tubes to be re-biased. You can usually access it easy enough to swap yourself as long as you've matched the impedience of the speakers. I own a '68 and will probably consider this swap as well.
imlostinthewoods thanks for this. Cheers
Chris Jones Are you turning your amp as loud as what Shane does in this video? (4 and above) This amps sounds verry different at that volume, it just opens up
This is a FSR and has a pine cabinet besides the Neo Creamback
@@IkBenSuperLief I'm pretty sure all the 68's have pine cabs except for the baffle and for some reason they are mdf. Yeah I just checked it out and they are all made out of birch and pine. Check out the specs on sweetwater for a '68 SF deluxe reverb.
Sorry if this has been asked: if I want to run pedals and love the power tube saturation of my Blues Junior (Celestion A Type) but want more clean headroom-65’ or 68’ Deluxe? Or Blues Deluxe? Thanks for any advice 🙏
Dang I have to quit watching these amp demos ,too much GAS ! Great demo mate ! :-)
TRY charcoal. (Or as Cory Mura would say, ' carcoal' ! LOL! )
Shane I have the vibrolux version. Your missing out by not jumping the channels. Jump them man! You will be surprised!
Amazing tones! What do u think about that speaker in a 65 RI deluxe reverb?
its ok I played 5 deluxe reverbs this week worst was the tonemaster Big dissapointment...the DRRI was good! but the speaker is avg
Would a WGS et 65 be a upgrade over the V type Celestion speaker?
The sound is beautiful, but is it possibile to crank it at home? Ciao, grazie
Sounds good, i have a celestion creamback g12m and will test that one, and even a celestion G12 90w alnico creamback, who is best in this amp? I will test both and compare! Anyone who already trsted it, please write!
Dig out the 335 more
Shane! HOW did you SIT that thing on your lap???
Nearly pulled the trigger last weekend but I normally do gigs of about 300 and wasn’t sure if it could cope …. Thoughts?
Tinnitus is forever. I'm worried for you man!
I've been cranking tube amps for 40 years. Get my ears checked every year at work. No problems at all. Never wore plugs and love drag racing.
Well I already have Tinnitus so I guess I don't have to worry about it :P
Hey Shane! I heard about many issues with the 68 Deluxes (noisy, problems with trémolo...). Have you experienced any of this with this one?
I was thinking about putting a creamback neo into my deluxe tone master. Do you think it would be a better speaker than the stock jenson?
Curious if you went through with this and what the results were? I'm thinking about a similar mod for my 65' reissue, it also has a jenson.
I put a new creamback into my tonemaster deluxe , sounded really good. Overdrive was slightly better to my ear. But I like jensen speakers a lot . So put them back in and used the neo in another amp. The jensen speakers keep that fender sound
1:20 Pali Gap
@intheblues would this be a decent 20 watt amp like I asked about in the live show tonight?
100% - I used to have one of these amps when they first came out. It's a solid amp mate.
Dude, does it hiss when you increase volume? Someone gave it a negative review because it was hissing past 4 on the volume? My VoxAC15C2 would hiss on louder volumes but I had a Master and Volume to control it better on the Vox. Is hissing normal?
☝🏾
Did you profile it with the Kemper?
Jim Kerstetter 😀yep! I’ve been doing all the amps so far that I’ve tested.
@@intheblues I got the new Tone Master Deluxe reverb recently. Sounds pretty close to my tube version. I expect the difference is just the speaker since I have a Celestion Blue in tube amp. Would be interesting for you to do a review on the new Tone Master and then profile it and profile a standard Deluxe Reverb, then compare the two profiles _haha!
Fender bastardised a 65 board into the 68 reissues, and the inherit layout of the components causes significant hiss, noise and clicking. They havent fixed the hiss Shane, the 2 resistors connected, which enable reverb to work on both chanels unlike the 65 is one of reasons for that noise. Both chanels are always active. Fender cheapened out massively using on PCB for both amps, and now we have huge noise issues. This amp isnt worth the coin mate.
But how about Wonderwall?
🤣🤮
I think I'm having a Mandela effect... wait... Didn't you were a right hand guitar player!? :o Just joking....
The amp sounds more rounded than the Fender Custom Deluxe Reverb '68 Celestion G12V-70 speaker.
Inthebutt lol
massive ceramic is thing 80w enithing below is weak
NOT FEELING THIS AMP AT ALL HARSH SOUNDING.......
he needs to clip the bright cap...
@@seanhershey3390 also tubing and a celestion 25 watt greenback etc.....
just a " loaner"...so..
@@DENIEL381 its a loaner. so he cant..:).I have a weber F150 in my 65 RI....& one in my 72...( but, I've clipped the bright cap in all my other amps that had them..AC15, Matchless Lightning DSL40)
sean hershey there’s no bright cap on the ‘68. The ‘68 is a rare amp that Fender made WITH the popular mods at the time that it was originally released, hence its not there.
Sounds too much like the fender blues deluxe, which really does not sound like a fender. Sounds muffled. Prefer the regular speaker.
Man, the blues deluxe is one of the brightest fender amps they've ever made.
intheblues I’ve got the custom one. It’s muddy, and the low end is like a fat flabby ass shaking all over. And it’s terrible with pedals. I’ve also got the 64 reissue - end of story.
$1000 wow, so cheap!!!!!........ Nope.
it is cheap
It's expensive as he'll, but I still got one pre-owned for 500 bucks basically new. I cannot be more happy.
Do not be fooled by this advertisement. A 2 times cheaper amp sounds the same
