    I just had a third Urethrotomy two weeks ago. (The first was 14-15 years ago, then it reoccured last March.) My catheter came out five days ago, and after TWO DAYS, I was already having stricture symptoms again. Now, my urine flow is already as bad as it was before the surgery.
    There is no question that I am going to need urethroplasty. I am absolutely terrified. I don’t know why this has happened to me. I don’t know what I did to deserve this. I don’t know what to do. I’m 47 years old and can do nothing but sit and cry in fear. I’m so scared.

      I got my urethral stricture from catheter during my hospitalization for perforated appendicitis in 2004. I was in icu for almost a month and during that time they need to change it frequently. I don't feel any problem with my flow until went for urinate at public restroom. I noticed the flow is not as others. Another indicator is ejaculation which is just oozed and not shooting as before. I'm also keep on getting uti and always given antibiotics instead of referring me to urologist. I'm living with this condition for almost 18 years until around May I suddenly can't urinate and went to ER. They tried to put the catheter but failed due blockage and then confirmed I have urethral stricture. Went for the endoscopic produre a week later and living with a catheter for around 3 weeks was tough. After they removed the catheter, got good flow around 2 weeks and now it's started to slowing down. Another appointment is on September and if the flow keep on worsening, need to go for urethroplasty. Based on information I have, urethroplasty is the only way to fox this issue, I'm preparing my self for it.

    Thank you for this. I'm about 2 weeks in to recovery. I get my catheters removed in 9 days. Before the surgery I didn't realize how big of an incision was going to be required (from the anus to the base of the scrotum+ another incision almost perpendicular to that). My doctor recommended getting compression shorts for recovery and I would suggest getting 7 pairs for anyone who is about to do this surgery. The penis is angled up, because it's less sensitive on the top side. I have both a suprapubic and a foley (penile) catheter right now. I was given the go-ahead to plug the suprapubic after about 3 days. I didn't have a plug and it took 5 days to order one. I used a tube from a leg bag and tied a knot in it while waiting for the plug. If you have both, make sure you get a catheter plug as my solution has been much more bulky than necessary for the last 5 days. Also, get a "donut" to sit on, you WILL need it. I got a 4" tall toilet seat cover that works pretty well because that's what was available. It's not sexy, but it keeps pressure off the incisions. (I still only sit for about 10 minutes at a time for now)

      WHAT'S GOING ON IFFY, HOW ARE YOU I KNOW I MAY BE LATE TO YOUR POST BUT I JUST CAME ACROSS THIS BECAUSE I ACTUALLY WENT TO MY UROLOGIST AND IT WAS BECAUSE EVERY TIME I URINATED I HAD A SPLIT STREAM SO WHEN I DID RESEARCH IT SAID IT MAY IT CAN BE A STRICTURE I THOUGHT IT WAS A STRICTURE HE AND IT ALSO WAS BURNING NOT ONLY DID I HAVE A SPLIT STREAM IT WAS BURNING AND IT WOULD KIND OF BE PAINFUL WHILE URINATING SO I HAD A CYSTOSCOPE DONE AND SURE ENOUGH IT WAS A STRICTURE SO HE DID A PROCEDURE WHICH WAS ABOUT 30 TO 45 MINUTES NOW AFTER THAT I HAD TO WEAR A CATHETER LIKE A FOLEY ATTACHED TO A URINE BAG FOR ABOUT A WEEK AND THEN IT WAS TAKEN OUT BUT NOT EVEN A MONTH LATER I FELT THIS THING COME BACK AGAIN SURE ENOUGH I HAD ANOTHER SISTO DONE ASSISTANT SCOPE DONE AND IT WAS ANOTHER URETHRA STRICTURE SO I HAD ANOTHER PROCEDURE DONE THE SAME THING HAPPENED BUT THIS TIME IT HAPPENED WITHIN AFTER 3-4 MONTHS IT CAME BACK NOW MY UROLOGIST HAS SET ME UP WITH ONE OF HIS PARTNERS WHO IS VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE IN THIS AREA I SPOKE TO THAT DOCTOR AND HE SAID THAT IT WOULD TAKE APPROXIMATELY 3 TO 4 HOURS THE SURGERY AND NOT ONLY THAT BUT I WOULD HAVE TO WEAR THE URETHRA THEIR FULLY WITH THE URINE BAG FOR ABOUT 3 WEEKS TO A MONTH THIS TIME AROUND SO I'M REALLY WORRIED ABOUT THAT WAS IT PAINFUL THAT'S MY QUESTION TO YOU? THE OTHER THING THE OTHER QUESTION IS DID THE DOCTOR GIVE YOU ANY PAIN MEDS BECAUSE THIS STUFF THAT I SPOKE TO SAID HE WASN'T GOING TO GIVE ANY OPIATES OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT AND I'M THINKING JUST WITH MY PROCEDURE I HAD BEFORE I HAD SO MUCH PAIN THAT I NEEDED PAIN MEDICINE FOR AT LEAST 5 TO 10 DAYS THAT'S ALL I NEED IT FOR AND THEN MAYBE I CAN MANAGE SO I'LL TALK TO HIM ABOUT THAT BUT HOW WAS YOUR PAIN AFTER THE SURGERY WHEN YOU GOT OUT SURGERY AND HOW WAS IT FOR ABOUT THE FIRST I DON'T KNOW A FEW DAYS DID YOU HAVE TO WEAR A CATHETER FOR A MONTH? IF YOU COULD PLEASE GET BACK TO ME THAT WOULD BE GREAT..

    Hello Dr Myers, I found your video very interesting and helpful. I had a Urethroplasty operation about four years ago, but I was one of the few whom the surgery failed. I was told the success rate was about 80% like you said, I also was one of the rare cases who incured nerve damage. It's interesting that you described exactly nerve damage in the feet. I have pain and numbness in my left foot that runs up my leg to my buttocks, the pain was real bad for the first few months but has bothered me until this day, also I still have the numb feeling in my left foot and parts of my leg.
    On the positive side, I found the surgery and post surgery very easy to deal with. I had no complaints about the surgery, everything seemed to go ok with very little pain. So except for the nerve damage the surgery I found very easy to go through. I believe my urologist and his team did a great job, despite the nerve issue.
    I have been referred to the Specialist Urology centre in Edinburgh royal infirmary? in Scotland where I believe they are considering a second europlasty. My original surgery was carried out in Kircaldy, Fife, Scotland.
    The type of europlasty was the Bucca Mucosa I think you call it, with the skin graft from inside your mouth.
    I am really not sure what my other options are, I believe there are other options, but until I see the Urologist in Edinburgh, I will have to wait and see. I have an appointment for the end of next month, hopefully I will have a better idea then of whet Road we go down.
    Once again great explanation on the surgery, will keep it in mind for my next trip under the knife.
    p.s.
    On another note, my wife has a son who works at a hospital in Salt Lake city Utah, I believe he is an intensive care nurse. Small world.
    I note this video was posted in 2014 I think, so not expecting a reply, but you never know.
    Kind regards, Mr Stephen Gill

    Wow, I read a lot of comments and I've been to the urologist to see what was going on and I let the urologist know every time I would go to the bathroom or to urinate I had a split stream but it would burn it would burn and it would feel painful so I had a cystoscopy done and it turned out to be a stricture which I kind of knew it was after doing research and I had a procedure done that was about only a half hour long or so my regular urologist did it and after the procedure I had a catheter in me like a balloon catheter with attached to a urine bag for about a week for like 5 days or 6 days and then they take it out but about 4 months later the same pain and same urine Flow came back and I had another stricture so I had the same procedure done twice in a year and now it's back again and this time the urologist has me seeing one of his partners who does the surgeries quite often so now this doctor said the surgery would be at least 3 to 4 hours and I already know it's going to be painful that's what I'm worrying about but he also said that I would have to wear the catheter which is like the tube that's you know in your manhood and then it's hooked up like it's a catheter hooked up to a urine bag and you got to keep it not for six days before 30 days at least a month because you got to give time for the stricture to heal so that's what I'm worried about having it in for a month has anybody that read this comment had this done and had to wear the catheter with urine bag for a month? Was it painful I'm very curious to know?

    What is the cost of uroplasty?

    • @Iffy50
      @Iffy50 Рік тому

      For everything, (scoping, the surgery, the 1 night hospital stay) the cost is $60,000 before the price was negotiated by my health insurance. My surgery lasted about 4-5 hours, so it's a pretty complicated surgery.
